Lots of problems with this one. An attack on the Daedalus (especially given the bonus prompt this RtF) is an interesting premise, but the briefings really just ignore any story for the most part. The mission design is really bad. It's basically just the same mission over and over with little to no variation. If not for RtF, I would never fly this, and recommend the same to others.
A 5 mission battle based around the plot of defending the Platform Daedalus.
I found the plot to be unrealistic, stating that I was the only fighter in the entire sector despite the fact I was flying along side other TIEs in most of the missions. How can a training platform have only one operational fighter?
The plot takes some large leaps between missions which are only explained in the briefings. It's a shame the plot wasn't advanced further during game play.
In terms of plot, I liked the concept. However, each mission is extremely similar and repetitive and you are essentially shooting down Z-95s and X-Wings throughout the duration of the battle.
I found various cases of capital ships hyperspacing in and immediately crashing into other capital ships. The briefings don't always reflect the actual mission goals.
I played the campaign on Medium, and i found the battle to be so easy that I believe that I could have won it without even being there.
This battle is the lowest quality I've encountered so far. As you can expect from the title, it's centered around the Daedalus platform. The first mission sets the stage with excessive waves of Z-95s, and capital ships with incorrect orders. Following that is a copy/paste of the first, with some added craft, complete with incorrect orders, bad starship placement and even collisions between them. The final three missions are a copy/paste of the second mission. Which means four missions are nearly identical. Our fleet ships arrive four times. Attacked by the same ships, four times. With the same objectives, four times. With the same bugs, four times. There's only slight alterations in messages, primary goals, and a few extra craft. On the fourth mission, there's finally a primary goal to destroy the cruisers that have been in every mission up to this point. I decided to see if I could guess the next mission. Yes, it would most likely be another copy/paste. But surely there would be a different group of ships to destroy? Nope. The final mission features the same ships, with the same names. And you have to destroy them. Again. Only this time they have starfighter orders to attack each other. Wonderful. The only good things I can say are the briefings are okay, though the officer is useless. And I like a good capital ship brawl. It's fun to watch the lasers fly in the final mission. But it won't save this sorry excuse of a battle. Lazy, poor mission design all around.
Non Gradus Anus Rodentum!
This is the worst battle I have ever flown. I could have condensed all 5 missions into 1. The mission would have been lengthy but for all the flying I did seperately, the total would have been about half the battle's total. I flew for around 20 minutes a mission (100 minutes total) and could have done the entire battle as a single mission in about 45 minutes. Why this battle was approved with so much "kill the Liberty and Freedom groups" in each mission, I will never know. I only completed it for the FCHG points and to continue my string unbroken.
There just wasn't any real care put into this mission at all. I hate to give the lowest rating for this battle, but there's really no other fitting judgement. Waiting endlessly while you destroy a billion waves of fighters to kill the same ships over and over again is just not the makeup of a good battle.
One of the weakest battles in the compendium. Blew up the same Liberty and Freedom ship groups in every mission. Had no plot, extremely easy, zero fun to fly.
A very ending repetition of the same objectives over, and over again. Nothing changed, there was no plot, no originality, hardly worth the FCHG points, boring, brainless AI, and several dozen other glaring problems. One of the biggest things is that the Rebels threw about 30 CRS, 4 FRGS, 40 M-CRV, thousands of fighters, and a minefield into attacking this training post which appears to be devoid of life.
Barf........barf......This battle sucked the will to live out of me.
Yuck, its exactlly the same mission over and over, except mission two. But after destroying the same flight group and capital ships again and again it gets annoying, good thing i used the in-game cheats.
This is the first time I submitted a review. Most battles vary from ok to excellent, but this is the worst battle I have ever flown (not completed, but will only for the sake of my squad getting another citation). This is repetitive unimaginative and boring. Why do you have to kill the Cruiser group Liberty and those Modified Corvettes 3-5 times? I'll leave it at that.
Is it just me, or did I destroy Freedom and Liberty about 5 times?? Alright battle, otherwise
I don't normally make comments; but this battle has forced me to. No effort was made to change the missions, ships or goals throughout...they're identical. It annoyed me further, as its missions require quite alot of waiting, resulting in mind-numbing boredom. Additionally, I simply dug the way my own captial ships went around ploughing into each other for no discernable reason. This battle would be FAR better suited as a SINGLE free-tie mission.
Absolutely awful. Avoid.
This battles is boring, has bugs and gives no satisfaction. I most of mission i'm alone against rebel fighters and capital ships. My capital ships doing nothing to support me. And long waiting. I hate this. It needs reconstruction.
There was about 2 original missions in the battle, the rest were just copied, pasted and slightly modified. I don't know how many times I killed the Mod Corv group Freedom or the Calamari group Liberty. The VSD Victory attacked Daedalus in Mission 5, but this is probably just a random occurance.
It's all right but facing the same craft during each misson gets boring, also the designer made the ships too close to each other so when it fires, it hits friendly, so it keeps firing at friendly craft, usually your misson goals!
The battle was bug-free as I saw, but it really sucked. Each mission after the next was the same one, with the same craft.
For the bug, the ship only became invinciple at full shields. I liked blowing up the rebels and all capital ships, but the bug lowered the rating.
Mission Five: VSD Formidable and VSD Ravager head to the same point in space and dance around each other
