Hahhahha, this mission was super fun, (very) slowly creeping towards other capital ships in my ISD, firing my laser at enemy ships. Really made me laugh out loud, so well worth a play-through of a chuckle or two!
Quite a fun battle, since instead of the usual Fighter craft we get to command, we're instead at the helm of a VSD! To me, this has a lot of potential IF it's done well. Battles of this class, however, aren't for everyone, and while I would MUCH rather remain in the cockpit of a T/F, I can't say I didn't enjoy the might of the Empire's VSD.
Amazing. What did I just played? Commandeering a VSD is a life-changing experience. We need more of this! And with a proper deck and maneuvering this could become a complete different game I could play for days. Excellent mission. Do not miss it.
I thought this mission was great. Getting the chance to fly a Star Destroyer and wreck some Rebels was pretty awesome. It's not challenging, even on hard, but I didn't care. I was just pumped when I realized what I was flying.
What on Earth did I just play? This was insanity, XWA isn't meant for capital ship combat! That said, the ability to fly a Victory Class Star Destroyer through a fleet battle just drilling into larger (or smaller) ships scratched an itch I didn't know I had. Solid 3/5 just for that, alone!
The concept is ...orgasmic. Ripping into a Calamari Cruiser like that feels amazing. The mission itself is not that great. At the hands of a better mission designer this concept can work really well. You should have been thrusted right in the thick of it and the Cap Ships should have been given clever paths instead of starfighter orders, but it is still an enjoyable mission as a one-off. Just to sit back and blast everything. You will spend the first few minutes of the mission, feeling like a kid outside a confectionery store without a way to get in. But once you are in... I even destroyed the turrets of one of the Cruisers. Felt so good. As other reviewers have mentioned, set your shield to max recharge and your lasers redirected to the engines (your turrets will still fire).
I wanted to grade it lower but ended up with a 3 eventually. I had a path from disliking to enjoying this mission eventually. Sadly I had to repeat it a few times as it was notorious for hanging up my game. It seems very random in what is going on as well. Sometimes enemy fleet focuses you down, sometimes not. Sometimes enemy ships collide with one another, blowing themselves up. It's quite an unique experience, yet not overly interesting one. Put max energy to shields, nothing to lasers, fly about and use turret focus on target key. What happens in the battle is pretty much out of your hands. And gods that first turn you have to make. A whole minute just for that!
This missions makes me wanna extend the points scale all the way down to -10. And why does everything have starfighter orders when they're not starfighters?
First experience with Cap-Ships. It is an experience I never hope to replicate. Rating of "2" for novelty.
Definitely not an entertaining mission. You'll yawn a lot. Mission creators should try making cap ship missions with Gunships and Modified Corvettes.
This mission is best left alone.
Fun, except I didn't get to really kill anything. :P
I didn't like it...the VSD is way too slow and it wouldn't hit a blasted thing. My opinion is - XWA was not meant for CapShip missions, unless you've got plenty of hyper-jumps to get you around.
The novelty of flyinga VSD wears off pretty quickly.
This mission is great. The only thing that did confuse me is how i sometimes shot at ships that were close and it did no damage. Other than that though I liked this mission.
Nicely designed battle, but pretty slow paced considering your flying a VSD! But if you go for the smaller ships first, then the big boys you'll get more kills and keep the corvettes from stealing as many of your kills.
Fun Fun Fun Game! Heh, that mission was fun. Just a little tip for you people out there.... attack the smaller vessels first, they get destroyed in seconds and they rack up your points :P
Pretty tite mission. KInd of a drawback to be flying a capital ship, so slow and all. Extremely easy.
There are currently no open bug reports for this battle.
