Battle Reviews

I agree with other reviews when they say that some missions in this battle are extremely hard. Even playing on easy, the lack of waves and the strong opposition makes this battle enjoyable until a certain point where one just wants to quit. Some mission bugs regarding the arrival of certain groups in the latest missions don't help either, making one of them especially suicidal.

The story of the battle is not bad, although nothing special. It starts well, but it goes a bit down the slope as it advances. I would love to grade this battle higher, but gameplay wise I found it extremely frustrating.

Many of these missions are not even doable on hard. For example the last mission you get one craft wave while the opposition gets 150 fighters.

While I flew this on easy as apart of RtF 2022, I still found the missions and story to be enjoyable. There is a varied set of both missions and craft to fly. With so many battles out there of average rating, it's nice to come across one so well built. No bugs found.

A really good set of missions - some were hard for me even on easy, and had to go on unlimited waves for my last two missions. Well worth a replay though! In a couple of missions you basically had to clear out some quite hairy capital ship targets, n your own it seems, which was pretty brutal. An excellent series of missions though.

Entertaining battle with a good story and really nice progression throughout the missions. It makes you feel like each mission has a meaning. Some are indeed longer missions and some are very short. It is a good balance and the missions provide enough variety that it is extremely entertaining, especially compared to some other battles.

There are some typical mission issues like some fighters spawning from their mothership before the mothership had a chance to finish their hyperspace sequence, putting them 1k away while the later ways join in at 0.5k ;) That's a nitpick anyhow. Storywise it's ok. It's at least a nice coherent story from start to end and the mission play is not too bad.

I played on Easy. This series of missions doesn't know whether it wants to be short or long. Some missions end within a few minutes, some seem to drag on forever. Also, the missions are mostly the same with very few exceptions.

Not bad this one, but neither brilliant or particularly fun to fly. It's the over used concept of the underloaded GUN taking on more it can chew. The missions are a mixed bag of dogfighting, inspection and bombing. Fly it for points or if you are depleting the Compendium, like myself.

Tough battle. Big battles with many capital ships and many fighters facing off. With seven very similar missions it is a bit repetitive though.

Nice battle, but a little too hard. But maybe i'm week :(. However the mission with inspection wasn't good at all. MUTR escaped and I couln't finish the mission. There was no mission failed communicate.

A decent battle, though defending your Command Ship and dogfighting are about all you do.

I didn't like it. there were too many enemy fighters. once the million fighters were gone my wingmen attacked me. and it'd be nice to do something other than defend the intrepid. And in the 6th mission I had to destroy the asteroid base and cruiser by myself because my wingmen all left.

Excellent Battle. Only drawback was the lack of ability to choose other craft. Overall, very good battle!

Cool stuff and its one of them Battles on easy everyone can play and and hard is a real challenge nice battle's very cool dogfights !

What Can I say an excellent Battle, nice work Tarkin :D

Not a bad plot itself. I liked the idea. Very interesting. What wasn't pleasant for me? Well, in most missions the player used the same equipment all the time. I know this is a squadron standard equipment - but a player might want to fly a T/B or a T/F, even though those craft aren't worth much, for a better challenge. Besides, the battle seemed a bit too... easy? Even on hard settings. There should be more challenge in at least the second part, imho. Nice 7 FCHG points, though.

Battle Bug Reports

LT Rosh Nyine

On mission 6:
- Destroying all starfighters on easy leads to a 66% completion of the primary goal of destroying 75% of Global Group 3. This does not happen on medium or hard.
- FG TRN Sigma doesn't arrive unless 100% of Global Group 3 has been destroyed. Playing on easy this condition is never met, so the transports never arrive to support on the destruction of Global Group 1. This does not happen on medium or hard.

CM Nova Discordia

In Mission 3 - the last couple of waves of Xwings seem to warp in and just line up ready to be shot - which was fine by me, but hey, would have been more interesting if they didn't sell their lives so cheaply for the rebellion!

GN Dunta Polo

Mission 1: Some of GUN Krayt crash into ISD Intrepid. Mission 4: EH forces ignore ATR Eagle when they arrive to attack ISD Intrepid. Mission 7: One third of the Rebel fighters do not launch. GUN Cobra do not engage the factories or CRS.

Prologue mission 1

RA Pel stood calmly on the bridge of the ISD Intrepid. He had just read the final orders of AD Priyum from the datapad.

From: BGCOM ASF AD Priyum
To: COM ISD Intrepid RA Pel
Subject: Order 277 alpha tango

You are hereby ordered to take the ISD Intrepid and TF Claw on an deep strike mission (class: Zulu) into New Republic held space. Your objective: the Katalla Shipyards. Intel has no exact location but it must be in sector 43. In order to complete your mission you are allowed to use any means necessary. Commodore, it is imperative that these Shipyards are destroyed. We believe that this is the only manufacturing facility that can produce the new Calamari Supercruiser. These Supercruiser have been designated a class Alpha threat. I and the other BGCOMs, as well as the SA and GA, are counting on you and your men to eliminate that threat. Good luck!

AD Priyum

Pel turns to LC Raith, Wing Commander of Wing XIV. You saw the orders? Pel asks Raith. Yes, Raith replies. Its a suicide mission. First, how the hell are we going to find this shipyard? Then, if we actually find it, are we going to destroy it with just a ISD and one Wing? Pel sighs. We also have TF Claw and Avenger Squadron. But if that is going to be enough Pel shrugs his shoulders. Well, first things first. How to cross the border in such a way we arent followed? The two officers look at the Galactic map. Whats this? Raith points at an NR Outpost on the border. Outpost 13a class 1 platform, fairly remote from other NR bases. Pel: We need to destroy them quickly enough so that we can slip through before any reinforcements arrive. Raith smiles. Leave that to my boys and girls, Commodore. Ill send Krayt in to blow the damn thing to kingdom come. Copperhead will deal with any fighters and Ill also send Avenger in too, let see if those hotshots are as good as they say.

Prologue mission 2

Again nothing. For 3 weeks the Intrepid is sending out patrols but still no sign of any shipyards. We need to find them quickly, the Rebels are closing in on us. Yesterday a rebel patrol of X-Wings almost discovered the Intrepid in an Asteroid field. Yes, yes, I know. Raith replies to Pel. After the initial success at outpost 13 the rebels pulled themselves together and started to send out extra patrols searching for any unwanted visitors. Whats next? Pel asks. Raith looks on his datapad and says: Two Tie Advanced from Avenger are going to inspect a Traffic Control Center in sector 43. Lets hope they find some leads. Yes, Pel thought, lets hope that.

Prologue mission 3

Commodore Pel sat in his command chair on the bridge. How long? 5 minutes, sir. Replied the Tactical Officer. Pel asks himself for the tenth time why didnt I bring a Interdictor with me? Ah well, this should work. And if not
The plan was to block the hyperjump point of the Rebel Convoy with the ISD Intrepid. The main objective was to capture the admiral that was onboard the Cruiser that escorted the convoy. With a little persuasion he would give up the location of the Katalla Shipyards. Starfighters are in position, Commodore. Reported Raith. Sensors are detecting an incoming hyperjump, sir! yells the Tactical Officer. Pel smiled. I love it when a plan works.

Prologue mission 4

6,5,4,3,2,1,Initiating hyperjump now! Nothing happens. The chief engineer looks disappointed. Its no use , sire. The hyperdrive is to badly damaged. RA Pel replies: Suggestions? The chief engineer turns his eyes to the ground. Unless we can acquire a new hyperdrive, were stranded sir. Pel walks over to the navigation charts. What do we know about this region? Pel asks the Navigational Officer. There are almost no inhabitable planets in this region sir. Nor any industrial facilities and tradeports. There is however a smugglersring active in this area. Maybe we can acquire their services. Pel frowns. Smugglers? They are hardly loyal businessmen. What if they sell our location to the Rebels? Raith intervenes. Sir, if we dont contact them, we must abandon the Intrepid and continue our mission with TF Claw. But without the Intrepid's supplies and firepower Pel sighs. Youre right. Make the necessary arrangements. Lets just hope they will keep their word long enough for us to survive.

Prologue mission 5

What do you mean it doesnt work? RA Pel looks infuriated at his Chief Engineer. Well sir, when we tried to switch it on, it burned out. The Chief looks very nervous. They must have know it would not work when they sold it to us, sir. So they double crossed us, did they, Pel says. Luitenent-Colonel Raith, assemble a Strike Force and destroy those smugglers once and for all. Yes, sir! Raith turns around and walks with a fast pace to the door. And Raith? Raith halts and turns around. Let the men look for a hyperdrive before they destroy the place. A hyperdrive that works, that is.
Raith nods and turns around to continue his way to the briefing room.

Prologue mission 6

RA Pel walks out of the interrogation room. A shiver runs down his back. With a determined pace he walks to the bridge. Nasty business, torture. But very effective indeed. Pel walks onto the bridge. Helm, lay in a course to 123 by 12 by 80. Initiate hyperdrive. Finally, Pel thought. We know the location of the Katalla shipyards. Too bad the Admiral did not live long enough to give details about the defenses of this shipyard. Ah well, you didnt think it was going to be a walk in the park, now did you?

Prologue mission 7

RA Pel gazed at the stars. So close yet so far. The Chief Engineer said it already was a miracle the smugglers Dreadnought hyperdrive lasted as long as it did. A Dreadnought is not as big as a ISD, the chief said. After that he sputtered out some technical gibberish but Pel stopped listening after he heard that the hyperdrive was broken beyond repair. We are sending a distress call on all EH channels sir. Reported the Comm Officer. Goodgood. Pel replied and turns to Raith. How are the squads? Raith looks at Pel. Average fighter losses amount to 90%. Pilot losses are about 70%. I cant even get a operational, let alone combat ready, flight up there. Were a sitting duck. Sir. Raith turns around and sees a sub-luitenent. Yes? Sir, what about Diamondback Squadron. Raith frowns. That squad isnt operational. What about it? Well sir, dont we have its fighters onboard? Pel turns his head curiously. Comm, patch the Storage Master through. Storage, says a voice. Do we have Diamondbacks fighters in storage? ask Pel. Lets seeDiamondbackI have 12 Tie Interceptors, with shields, in boxes. This is WC Raith! Put those T/I together as fast as possible! Yes sir! replies the unknown voice down in Storage. With the surviving pilots I can put together a squadron. Raith smiles. It might be enough to hold of our enemies until reinforcements arrive. Pel puts on a grin. And if not, we will make them pay dearly.
