Great story and an action packed ending to the whole campaign.

These missions were not properly balanced on higher difficulty, often requiring insane levels of flying. You are often assigned the wrong craft for the mission and not given the correct ordinance. In all the missions you start at 100% shields, which is a huge detriment especially given how slowly rebel shields charge.
Mission 2 where you have to destroy a platform you should be given an A-Wing, not a b-wing as you are under constant attack from enemy fighters and do not ever get a chance to restore your shields properly after the start of the mission. You can also fail the mission out of nowhere if the mines happen to destroy an ATR or stormtrooper transport that is on an attack run towards the platform/containers, causing the platform to be destroyed by the explosion.
In mission 3 your entire complement of fighters is wiped out at the start, forcing you to sit between your capital ships or be destroyed. The enemy forces are given 30 squadrons of fighters on hard, while you get 2.
In mission 4 you have to destroy an interdictor in a b-wing with half a load of warheads in 5 minutes while once again impossibly outnumbered.
In mission 5 you can lose out of nowhere if one side loses all their ships and you happen to be in the middle of the fight; all of the remaining pirate forces will target you and destroy you instantly. You should be in a faster ship like an a-wing or t-wing in the last mission. I understand it is a tactical withdrawal but the insane number of fighters given to the opposition should have been re-evaluated.

It's easily my favorite battle of the Rion series, mostly because of its originality - you won't find a lot of battles in the compendium about a tactical withdrawal! It's a good time all around, and an excellent ending to a long campaign!

The best of the whole Rionese series. All battles were very engaging and well designed. The briefings and the plot came to an end of a full campaign. I hope we can see the sequel of what happened after the Rion Sector. A very good battle to close the saga.

A somewhat mediocre end to what has otherwise been an enjoyable series of battles; though the plot is simple enough to follow and the missions reflect the emergency evacuation feel, something is missing which I cannot accurately describe.
Still, it was nice to finally get through the whole thing!

Now that I have finished all these Rion missions I can reflect a bit on them. While they did contain a few interesting plot twists, overall, the plot line could be a bit confusing. The English really suffered throughout all of these battles (especially this one) and reading it was borderline uncomfortable. I thought the plot twist in the final mission – where you hyper into a sector only to be surprised by three separate parties in combat together and you just get to sit there and watch them blow each other to pieces – was a very fitting and confusing way to end this campaign. Overall it was pretty fun, with some horrid English that really detracted from it all. A little pro tip for the final mission – go after all the capital ships. Just do not pay the starfighters any mind. The very intelligent navigation team on the Warspite flies directly at the capital ships, and they WILL destroy it if you don’t take them down.

Well, the campaign is finally over, and it's done in the way it should be. The negotiations with the Rebels was a different approach, although it was annoying sice the Interdictor couldn't be destroyed and I spent about 6 minutes trying to kill it.

Really good battle. You can fight a lot of starfighters and it has a good storyline. But I give it only 4 points because in the first mission you needn't to shoot down a single fighter because all of your wingmen do the job for you. And make sure your pc isn't too weak because for the starfighter action you need some power.

I found the battle was good except for the last mission that was confusing cause you don't know who you must atack to save the Warspite.

Great battle , realy good ending to a wonderfull story. A few more dogfights might have been nice & that last mission is a killer.

Throughout the entire battle, numerous typos throughout. All missions also have capital ships that are on the IW radio frequency, meaning they can be given orders. Inconsistent levels of shielding given to craft; many enemy fighters have waves that have one flight that has 0% shields, while another flight has 200% shields.

Mission 5: If you are on board (rearming) of the Warspite while it is doing its final jump, the battle cannot be won, even if all mission goals (but jumping to Kanan System) are completed.
2009-08-17
Mission 1: Invincible Rionese TIE Defenders are pointless and stupid (unless you think they're a good device to force the player into the MC90's hangar before all enemies are destroyed). On Medium and Hard the number of enemy waves launching from Rionese Frigates and ISDs is quite frankly, ridiculous. At least have the modded T/F, T/I and the T/A, GUN and T/Ds emerge from hyperspace. In fact, even on Easy the Nebulon Frigates somehow cram in 40 TIEs each which doesn't fit with the ships' stats at all.
Mission 2: Rion transports sit dead in space doing nothing once the containers and platform are destroyed. Perhaps a 'fly home' order would resolve this issue. On Medium and Hard the number of enemy waves launching from Rionese Frigates and ISDs is quite frankly, ridiculous. At least have the modded T/F, T/I and the T/A, GUN and T/Ds emerge from hyperspace.
Mission 3: There are over 100 fighters emerging from each Rebel CRS even on Easy, which is silly. At least have the extra X-Wings and A-Wings drop in from hyperspace. Only the Rebel Interdictor is set to invincible when the CRS can still be destroyed, which renders the communication to establish a deal with the Rebels amusing to say the least.
Mission 4: Same thing as before with the silly numbers of starfighters emerging from each Rebel cruiser. The Rionese ISD Osprey also does nothing because its patrol\\attack order was accidentally placed in slot 2.
Mission 5: ISD Thesee has a lot more than 72 TIEs and 5 Gunboats launched from it even on Easy - suggest changing this so the GUNs emerge from hyperspace instead. The same applies to the carrying capacity of the pirate starships, with the exception of the Escort Carrier.

IW Battle 27 - Tactical Withdrawal Rion's Shadow Campaign Tour of Duty #5 ------------------------------ Title: Rion's Shadow Campaign: Tactical Withdrawal Game Platform: X-Wing Alliance (XWA) Missions: 5 Medal: Platinum Infiltration Crescent Author: TAC/FA Striker/CS-3/SSSD Sovereign (EH_Striker@mail.com) Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1] Double click the .EHM file, the EH Battle Launcher will install the battle. 2] Check the Misc folder in your XWA for additional material like patches, emails or sounds. 3] In EHBL, create a new "EH Pilot" in the Game Menu (Check "Prepare for EH Battle"). 4] Press the X-Wing Alliance button to start XWA and fly the battle. Plotline -------- Mission 1 - Hurry up ! Greetings. With our mission accomplished in the Rion Sector, Rionese and Rebels forces fighting each other, the Infiltrator Wing is evacuating our secret base there. Unfortunately, the Rionese Fleet has located us and several Task Forces are heading to our base. Many transports are currently evacuating the Kapp'arh platform to the Fear, your mission will be to make sure most of them are safe. You will fly with the first A-Wing flight of Enforcer Squadron. That's all, dismissed. Mission 2 - Farewell, Kapp'arh Before leaving our base, we must get rid of all evidence of our presence; there are still some confidential information aboard the platform, your mission will be to destroy it, along with the containers surrounding the base. Do not let the base be captured, intercept any capture team which may try to board the platform. There are already several Rionese transports heading to the base... hurry up, your B-Wing is awaiting you ! Mission 3 - Rebels never die All right, this should be your last mission here; the fleet is currently engaging the hyperspace procedures to reach the Karana System. You will fly with the A-Wing flight of Shadow Squadron as a standard escort patrol around our capital ships. Rebels may attack us, though they won't have the time to stop us. Soon we will be home ! Mission 4 - Cannon Fodder We're trapped by an Interdictor, Rebels want our prisonners to let us go. As planned, Rebels are going to betray us. We intercepted a coded transmission to Rionese forces, Rebels want to show them we are the bad guys responsible of the attacks on their installations. Should Rionese forces manage to reach the area and notice the slight difference between our IFF code and Rebels', they may reconciliate with New Republic forces, and our operation in the Rion Sector would have been a big waste of time. By a secure comm channel we contacted the Fear, which will send Ares and Razor Squadron to deal with the INT. In the meantime, we will send back Rebel prisonners to the CRS Sword. Of course, we have a little surprise for them: the shuttle has been programmed to explode before reaching the cruiser... This mission will a matter of time; sensors indicate a Rionese Star Destroyer should arrive in 6-7 minutes... ALL our forces must have left the area at that time. Mission 5 - Final cleaning The Warspite is only two hyperjumps from Karana System. We will go through a relatively frequented nav area, therefore you have been assigned to a standard patrol, just in case. Whatever we might encounter, make sure the Warspite makes it to Karana.
