This battle IS frustrating and yet I liked it enough to give it a 3. I echo what others have said, the missions are unrelated to each other. This was probably a way to create a battle. Who knows what the creator was thinking. The first mission penalizes you for being good. The faster you kill the enemies the worse it gets (which if used properly would have made for a 5/5 mission). Fly this for completion points and/or for a bit of a challenge.
To echo what other reviewers have mentioned, this battle plays more like a collection of free missions. The plot is thin, and if I recall correctly there wasn't any briefing more than one page. Mission 2 in particular seems irrelevant. On a slight plus, the in-game messages do help flesh out the story. Gameplay is easy, even on Hard difficulty level; the one possible exception is the first mission where I would call it "tricky" versus hard if you don't happen to notice what's going on around you. The last major issue is the ludicrous docking times, which take some time even on X4 speed. It wouldn't be too bad if there were something to do during that time, but there really isn't.
Id like to see more mission debriefing, a lot of what you're supposed to know is told through the chat mid flight opposed to pre-flight. The duel was very challenging and i liked the use of shooting the container to answer a yes or no question, never seen that one before.
The docking times are way too long, of the two missions that had docking, you basically wait 10 minutes for the frigates to finish.
Kill the starfighters, grab a drink or snack, and hit that 4x button.
The docking times are unforgivable.
Technically speaking this battle is flawless. No bugs. Which is good since not-technically speaking it's a mess. Shuttles that require 8 minute docking times, an unshielded TIE against a TIE Defender with advanced missiles, and a Dreadnaught doicng a docking op with a Star Destroyer. These are all things you should know NOT to do in a battle when you take how-to-create-a-mission 101. Such a shame, because the missions lend themselves to fit within a nice storyline. Once someone writes it. Giving it a 2 because there's no annoying bugs.
Virtually no plot. A text file is included with the battle, but it only contains a few sentences of relevant information. I can't imagine why it wasn't included with the briefing, because the briefing and officer questions are almost completely empty. The battle feels more like a collection of free missions. The first mission is probably the most well crafted of the bunch, though that isn't saying much. It's also the most difficult and can be tricky to complete, as you must protect shuttles from a lengthy boarding operation while a handful of Rebel fighters hyper directly into laser range. The shuttles are not marked as mission critical, but you indirectly fail if they're destroyed. Warhead interception is also needed against a lone B-wing. The second mission involves flying a T/F to destroy a single T/D in a dogfight, and that's the only objective. The third mission is an escort mission. Easy but very long, it requires about 25 minutes on the clock, nearly half of which is spent waiting. You can opt to fight a cruiser in the meantime. The final mission is another easy escort mission. Overall it's a simple, boring, medium-length battle with nothing of interest. No secondary or bonus goals at all. The only plus is that it's bug-free, so everything works as expected.
It was pretty good with the exception of mission 2 (which is essentially a showdown between you in a T/F and a guy in a T/D. The speeds are so unevenly matched that it takes a while to wear down his shields. When I got it to this point, the T/D kept going into hyperspace. Perhaps there should have been an Interdictor there to keep the T/D from running away when it's hull was damaged.
There are no briefings!
There are currently no open bug reports for this battle.
