Battle Reviews

Well built and great story.
Wait times are excessive. A lot of missions are similar.
I can see what Ender was trying to do here and if the wait times were shorter the battle would be much better.

I flew this as part of Raise the Flag competition 2021. Overall, the battle seemed straightforward with no major hang-ups. There is not much to say about it. It was fun but the battle did not contain any elements that makes it stand out from nearly every other battle you have ever flown.

I played on Easy. This battle is the worst series of missions I have ever seen and I've played a ton of bad missions. The wait times on these missions are RIDICULOUS. Even worse, the wait times are like 10x more than you need to complete the missions, so you spend multiple hours in total just waiting around.

This one is a big oof. LOTS of waiting. If you enjoy sitting in your TIE while you wait on slow moving freighters to do something, and if you like clearing minefields, but then have your wingmates swoop in and do it for you, then look no further! This battle is made for you. If you want actual action where you fight more than three craft at a time and don't have to AFK in your cockpit for 5-10 minutes at a time, move along.

Bring a book, or watch a movie, or ANYTHING else to keep your mind occupied when playing this missions. Aside from the mind-numbing minesweeping missions that are over in minutes, you're looking at 15+ minutes of waiting around for craft to dock. Would not recommend for anyone not wanting 100% battle completion.

I am truly blown away by the reviews on this mission, because it was an absolute snoozefest. I feel bad saying that- clearly a lot of effort was put into this- but for every. single. one. of the 12 missions, it was a formula of 'kill a wave or two of fighters, then wait for 10-15 minutes for cargo transfers.' It was an absolutely awful battle to play through, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they were in the middle of watching a TV series in the background. Which I did- after the third mission, I needed a way to kill a whole lot of time waiting for transports to move around. An example of how not to create a compelling battle. This story could have been told in 4 missions, not 12.

I'd give it a 2, but I feel like I need to offset the 4s and 5s.

A lot of the missions were very similar in nature. Defend the platform and wait for stuff to get done there. A lot of times you'll have Y Wings spawn in so take those out. Somewhat entertaining despite it all. Was quite a wait for some missions to be completed.

A very long campaign. But worth it. The plotline is very well written, and the missions unfold accordingly. There are some dead times in missions, but this is contributing to the realistic feeling of the whole story, where you get to patrol and protect a lot. The missions are very well crafted, with very affordable primary goals and lots of bonuses for those who want to push the edge of their own capabilities. Always challenging, the length of this battle is not by any means detrimental to the gaming experience. And yes, you will find the ubiquitous M/FRT Luggage all along the campaign. Do not miss this battle. It's well worth the time and effort.

A very enjoyable battle. With only 1 bug to be found, it was built rather nicely. While I have to admit, like others have stated, this battle could have been finished in about 7 missions, with some of them taking a tad longer than they need to due to some AI timing. I enjoyed it none-the-less. The fish theme gave me a chuckle. Well done

Yeah it's long, and yeah it's repetitive but man is it fun to play. So many thing to do and bonuses all over the place (although my scores don't show it). Take some time to play this battle.

Good battle and also good argument or history; the cleaning of mines fields is a fine work to improve gunnery skills.

Nice mission but most of the missions where the same. e.x. first missions where all about transports and next about clearing mines. However much and nice FCHG points.

This battle is the most repetitive one I've ever seen done. The plot just drags on and on, it could have really been done well in about 5 missions instead of the 12 that there are. On the brighter side... the battle is free of any technical problems, and offers a wide variety of craft and armament selection for most of the missions.

When I installed this battle I was expecting a 12 mission long bore, because most battles over 8 missions seem to lose diretion. although it could have fitted in all the same stuff into a 10 missions as some missions were short, This is a brillant bit of creation from Ender. and truely earns a thumbs up :)

Well designed and it flowed well. Nice to see the ASF getting some overdue attention with a battle of this size. Well done!

I liked it, the missions made sense and you felt like you were doing something for the greater glory of EH, not just killing rebels, I would of given it a 5 but some missions were a little repetitive.

It's for XvT, you get a nice dozen of FCHG points, there are no "you vs. capital ships" missions (but minefields, yay!) and the battle has a real plot! MindB Productions does more than ASF documentaries! (Okay, it's like a so TC common squadron advertisment battle - which isabsolutely okay! Express the love for your Squad/Wing/BG - but after all that's how people like Ridley Scott earned their first merits... ;) )

I compared this battle to BoP TC 12 for length. Unlike that battle though, this one as a whole did not flow. I did not really want to fly 7 more missions in this battle. I just wanted it to end so I could have a nice FCHG boost.

Not terribly varied, could have been done in maybe 8 or 9 missions instead, but it's all good. Various spelling mistakes, including my own name (again, foolish MB) drag it down the rest of the 1 point. Fun enough to play, with a reasonable storyline and difficulty level, and the usual Ender-quality technical expertise. I'd actually rate this a 3.5, but I round up. I'm so nice. }:c)

Description
-----------
This battle is part of a series of free missions about each of the squadrons in the ASF doing
missions following their squadron objective in their assigned craft. Each mission tries to give
a feel and a bit of history of each of the Squadrons. All the storylines of the missions are
interconnected and have the ASF Squadron join together against a common foe. In timeline this
battle takes place just after the free missions.

Story Line
----------
1. Logistics is an important part of any Star Destroyer's running. Its crew, 36.000 strong,
eats about 122.000 meals a day, its fighters consume tons of fuel and warheads on each
mission and to sustain all such activity the ship itself requires continuous resupplying
of goods its own factories can't produce. Before going on a campaign outside safe supply
points an ISD Commodore makes sure his stores, which take up most of the front section of
the huge wedge shape, are completely full. As such the ISDII Vanguard is picking up
supplies at the Pyrath NavalBase at the moment.
As an extra the ship will also be finally getting the replacement fighters for the
"junkyard" of piratefighters everyone so long complained about. It has taken the COM
and WC a large effort and their complete "Nabooan Handmaiden Holo" collections but the
CS have finally come through: 3 completely new squadrons of fighters (well, barely used).
Your mission is to protect both transfers - do not underestimate their importance.

2. Now the ISDII Vanguard is ready its time to assemble and supply a taskforce for the
operation at hand: a mercy mission this time...
The Borka System is one of the neutral systems in this part of the Galaxy that the
"New Republic Spine Security Force" has been trying to convert to join up with the
NR over the last year. Their tactic has been the usual one of devide and rule, made
easier by the fact that the Borka are devided already. Apparently the NR took their
meddling with the system a step to far:
This morning, ship time, a Calamari Cruiser of the NR-SSF which was in orbit around
Borka II at the time, was shot down with a single warhead fired by an inconspicuous
satelite - after which the Cruiser crashed into the planet. The ensueing tidalwaves,
earthquakes and storms have killed many and the NR-SSF looks at in glee.
The EH will help the poor masses of Borka and will send in a large convoy of rescue
workers to aid them.

3. Organizing a rescue effort of this scale takes a bit of time: the convoys need to
be assembled, send on to their secret rendezvous points to avoid interception at the
base and we still need a guide to bring us to Borka in one piece.
Yes, its on the Galactic map alright . But what isn't are the various minefields,
border defence platforms, probes and NR-SSF patrols we'll have to pass to get to the
system. Its fairly deep into the New Republic and it won't be easy - but the EH will
gladly face these dangers to help the population of Borka II... and get to learn more
about that warhead they used.
Our guide is from the Borka System itself and has made the trip a few times already.
Its of the utmost importance that his shuttle arrives at the Vanguard safely.

4. ISDII Vanguard will deploy Wing XV fighters to clear the way for the convoys on their
way to Borka - at times with support from the Vanguard taskforce.
The first "layer" of the border between the EH Territories and the NR are basically
scanning stations of deep space probes that scan the border for activity of any kind -
even in hyperspace. If detected, the side that owns the probes (in this case the NR-SSF)
will send in forces to investigate.
Obviously we don't want that to happen when our convoys pass by so Scorpion Squadron is
sent in to destroy any probes on our convoys path. Work quickly and stealthily, as your
detection will most definitely spark the enemy attention we want to avoid. If anyone does
appear - make sure they can't tell the tale.

5. The convoy craft follow the paths cut by Wing XV squadrons as closely as they can, so
the window in which the enemy can intercept our forces stays as small as possible. This
means fighters that launched on a mission to destroy probes, mines or other border
defences may have to switch to escort tasks the moment they secured the area.
The second "Layer" of the border is mostly empty safe for transponder satelites that
collect and send along data coming from the probes of the first Layer. Each satelite
handles a larger amount of probes, which means that by taking out one of the transponders
you make sure that you've disabled a larger part of the forward detection of the enemy -
so it doesn't matter as much that we might've missed a few probes.
Take out the satelite before any part of our convoy starts arriving. Protect the convoy
after they have arrived. A missing transponder might attract immediate attention so be on
your toes.

6. Our convoy with help goods is now well underway and though we've sucsessfully hidden
our courses to the NR-SSF, they've stepped up patrols to intercept us that way. Apparently
they rather like to see the people of Borka suffer then let us through.
As such the squadrons of Wing XV and the ships of the Vanguard battlegroup keep a close
escort around the multitude of freighters thats underway. Fighters deploy wherever the
convoys need to come out of hyperspace for course corrections.
Protect the freighters - the lives of millions are at stake.

7. While some squadrons escort the convoy through the first two "Layers" of the border,
others are already actively cutting a way through the next one.
The third layer of these kinds of borders is most commonly one of passive defences,
meaning minefields. Space is of course to big to fully plug a border closed with mines
(a billion of the things wouldn't even make a start) but that's also not needed: any
vessel is subject to the laws of hyperspace travel and these dictate, amongst other things,
that you cannot pass through or closely past a large mass. This makes mines more easily
usable as you only need to place them where craft most commonly need to drop from
hyperspace for course corrections.
Your mission is to clean up at least half the mines at the next hyperspace point so the
convoys can pass through without getting shot to pieces. If you can also take out the
transponder satelite - saves us a few more probes to worry about.

8. Now we get closer to the actual borderline, where active defences are the more commonly
used. This means steady patrols will support the presence of mine fields. Our guide tells
that he has observed the routine of the patrols for a long time and that its possible to
slip trough if we take out the next mine field and then jump on to the border we should be
able to make it.
Python Squadron is send in to take care of the job, followed by the DREAD Calidor, which
will secure the area as the convoys pass by, after which it'll join the forces in the rear
again. Destroy the mines and secure the area till the Calidor and the front of the convoys
arrive.

9. While the foreward based squadrons take care of cutting a way on the main route, the
escorting squadrons take care of simmular problems as they cut a way for the craft they're
assigned to. The routes of the convoys are not all completely the same to avoid detection
and this means that sometimes a escorting squadron suddenly gets a more foreward role.
Escort the freighters assigned to your squadron to their next hyperpoint and destroy the
mines in their way. We're almost at our end-goal so keep up the good work.

10. The actual border layer is heavily defended with platforms of all kinds - often with
added minefields. The Vanguard Commodore has deviced a new way of taking this hurdle: The
ISDII Vanguard itself, supported by the INT Artemis and Spider Transport squadron will
capture the least defended of these platforms and the secure it for as long as the convoys
pass, making sure no NR forces escape to alert their friends.
This typical interdiction task will be covered by the two interdiction squadrons of
Wing XV: Hornet and Python. They are to stop any craft from the platform from escaping
or attacking the Artemis or the Spider transports.

11. After our valliant effort to breach the NR border and go deep into their territories
the first small units of our force have finally arrived at the Borka System. Our first
order of business is to let the CRV Caterpillar 2 dock with one of the entrance platforms
to Borka II so the diplomats aboard can arrange the final part of this operation: the
distribution of the help goods, the rescue operation and the last state of affairs. Later
we will then use the entrance platforms to get our men and material to the planet's
surface.
Using the private freighter of their Flight II Leader, it has been modified to carry a
full squadron of fighters, Echo Squadron has arrived first at the system and now will
need to see that all is arranged correctly till more forces arrive.

12. The rescue and relief operation is in full swing already thanks to the ISDII Vanguard,
thousands have already received dry blankets, shelter and food. The Borka gouvernments
have unanimously voted for supporting the EH in the future.
What's left is the last convoys that still need to dock with the entrance platforms and
this business with that super warhead the Borka appartently develloped. If we could get
our hands on it, it would greatly help our case of ridding the Galaxy of this menace
that's the NR...
...If you can get any data on this, or even locate such a warhead - call in immediately
and the ISDII Vanguard will answer your call as fast as it can.

NOTE
-------------------
You need XvT (or at least all the ships involved there), as far as i know
no other patches are needed.
This battle was originally conceived as a ViB storyline in November 2000, the units,
craft and personalties have been updated.
