Battle Reviews

A poorly put together battle that sees pits you against far better fighters in a terrible ship, limited warhead selection and unmanageable odds.

So... much... waiting... in... this... battle... it... takes... so... much... longer... than... it... should. Maybe... I... would... have... ranked... it... higher... without... the... all... the... dead... time. Also... has... multiple... missions... where... you... can... do... stuff... you're... not... supposed... to... based... on... the... events... of... the... next... mission... which... is... even... acknowledged... by... radio... messages......... odd.

Soul crushing tedium. Interminable waiting and grinding down of capital ships, sometimes in the weak Cloakshape fighter.

My ninety-sixth battle in the TIE Corps.

I was really looking forward to this battle when I saw the Cloakshape Fighter patch. Until I had to fly it, at which point my excitement quickly disappeared. It really is not a good ship, it's slow, the guns are terrible, and the missile bay is uninspired. I think I will stick to being excited to kill them, but won't look forward to flying them anymore.

Decent battle. Nice plotline and good preliminaries and briefings. The missions had that feeling of being a DB battle, using second rate equipment such as the venerable GUN, or the budget Clk/F and were very challenging, given the poor capabilities of the latter. In the end, the missions tended to feel repetitive, such as always protecting your capital ships from a usual invading enemy flotilla, and this was detrimental to the overall score of the battle. However, this is a decent battle, worth the time invested and for some FCHG points, given that you are willing to endure flying the useless Space Blanket, aka the Cloakshape Fighter. Although Fighter is probably too big of a word for it.

Pretty decent battle altogether, although I never will understand why some people have you fly crap like a Cloakshape fighter. The whole battle flow is utterly destroyed though by the 5th mission. First you wait for 6 minutes for one transport after the other to dock, then it's a few minutes of dealing with enemy warships, and then another 6 minutes of waiting. Such a letdown. Not sure what was meant by a 'capital ship battle' .... I saw no cap ships fighting each other, not to mention the part where XvT doesn't do this unless you pratically put the caps on top of each other. Which is bad mission design anyways :)

Somebody needs to get the DB some actual bombers. This is the third battle in a row where they send T/As and T/Ds to do the dirty work of cleaning up big cap ships with a single load of advanced missiles. There was an attempt at humor here that I didn't quite catch, but I'm sure it's funny for the pilots who remember these ships and officers.

Some people who believe reviews should be half the battle and half the mission creator feel that everyone shouldn't give this battle a low rating because it's a posthumous battle. I disagree with this concept, so here goes. This battle has a good humorous plot (I admit I actually laughed during a briefing), it has some interesting situations (the CLK is not that bad in a dogfight) and also has an intense capital ship battle in the end. However, the battle also has serious flaws, such as long waits for ships to dock; the fights get confusing sometimes (like on the mission where we disable friendly capital ships); and the fact that CLKs, although fun to fly in dogfights, are so big that are easy targets for capital ships, no matter what's our speed or how much we jink. I know this battle wasn't finished, but someone could have made this battle a lot better with some minor corrections. I give it a 3, but I would change to a 5 if it didn't have these serious flaws.

Rather too confusing at times, had some nice idea’s just not very well implemented I will not say anything about those long dark evenings seating around waiting for craft to dock.

Well. This battle could be done better. I many missions I had to fly with GUNs, otherwise they were unable to complete their objectives. CLKs suck!

Story Line
----------

Mission 1:
Horror upon horrors! The House Ludo Kresh Palace and the Invigorator has run out of booze! The nearest
space port has been located and the STRCK Invigorator plus House Ludo Kresh's Sapphire fighters are
moving in to steal their wodka!

Mission 2:
Horror upon horror again! The Invigorator's new supply of wodka has been stolen and placed on an
escaping frigate! What's even worst now is that they're trying to humiliate us by disabling the
Invigorator! Turn the tables on them disable them and don't forget to inspect that escaping frigate!

Mission 3:
We have tracked our stolen booze to a remote part of space. The worst part is, is that the VSD
Indomitable and members of the Krath has taken it!! We must capture the Indomitable to show how much
better we are!! Capture all containers in the area as well: they may contain special items which we
may be able to use later on.

Mission 4:
Crew members from the Indomitable have informed us that they shipped some of the booze to the
Shadow Academy. We must capture the Platform and retreive this last bit of our wodka. The VSD
Indomitable has been re-crewed with a skeleton crew from the Invigorator, and will be able to help
us with. Those trainees don't stand a chance against Task Force House Ludo Kresh.

Mission 5:
Following our success against the trainees of the Shadow Academy and the disabling of the
Brotherhood's Reach and the Subjugator, which the Dark Council was on, they are furious with us.
They have ordered us to relinquish control of the Indomitable back to the Indomtable pilots and staff.
The Indomitable currently is unmanned and incapable of defending itself. Make sure no pirates steal it!!

Mission 6:
The Dark Council have ordered us to give the Shadow Academy and the Subjugator back as well. We are
to make sure no one at all comes into system and tries to take the Shadow Academy or the Subjugator.
We can't afford to lose either craft!!
