I'm tempted to give it perfect marks, because like it's predecessor I absolutely loved it. Wonderful mix of historical events and figures with fictional scenarios. Dropped some names I haven't thought of in decades (Star Vipers!). Goes for big, capital ship battles, which ultimately limits the number of starfighters, but creates something that feels epic and a bit unique in the compendium. There are a couple missions that are probably a bit too talky - including the huge twist in the final mission (which tragically we'll never see to completion). There's also some sameness at play in some missions that makes me question the battle length of bit. But those are quibbles - it's very much worth playing, and I highly recommended!
A well thought-out plot with large engagements that are brought down by occasional very long wait times and lots of capital ship grinding.
My ninety-fifth battle in the TIE Corps.
Another fun entry into this series, though there's a LOT of text in mission that is really hard to follow while trying to complete the objectives, so while I appreciate that effort, I feel its largely wasted since it's so hard in XvT to go back and read in flight messages. Interesting objectives and story line though!
Another great battle in the rDB saga. The plotline, as said before, is an excellent adaptation of what happened during the days of the split. Some missions are quite simple, others will require some tactical analysis to go through. There are some epic fleet to fleet engagements, and you will get confused which cap ship is yours and whose the enemy's. Perfectly crafted, it's one of the best in the DB subgroup in my opinion. It's challenging, immersive and will have your eyes peeled all the time. Pay attention even to the radio chatter if you want to survive this. Do not miss it.
I played on Easy. These missions are an odd combination of extremely easy and then brutally difficult. If you don't focus-fire the Strike Cruisers on M6 immediately, you will get overrun and lose. It took me a few runs to get through that level.
Another battle that could realistically have been a TC battle. Despite having the then-rDB as the antagonists, very little DB-related stuff happens in this battle. The ending is also a little weird, too. 3 stars for being bug free and having a storyline that can be followed easily.
I liked this battle. Some parts work really really well and there are times when you have to use your head. I hope to find the time to refly it in the future. I am not sure it is everyone's cup of tea. I must warn would-be pilots who play this, there may be moments of frustration. Just use your wingmen and additional waves wisely.
I agree with Hav's assessment that it's a bit too long in the middle, but if you pick the bomber flight groups and you're aggressive with using your waves it's not a big issue. I haven't flown this for 15+ years and I forgot the cliffhanger we left. I'm sorry to say I have no memory of what we planned for part 3
This battle feels too long. The missions in the middle are tedious, difficult, and repetitive. Sending a T/A or even a T/D with one load of advanced missiles to take out five cap ships or five factories doesn't make sense. Worse, it makes for frustrating missions. The ending was a shock, however, and made me curious about Part 3 (which I don't see in the Battle Center).
The flight group orders could have done with further fine tuning. The overhaul feel of the battle was good and at times a joy too fly.
humpf...Wasn't that good...Rather difficult, and I want a sequel damnit!
