RHO SQUADRON REPORT #9

REPORTING OFFICER: Major Westric Davalorn, Squadron Commander
DATE SUBMITTED: 09.06.2022

SQUADRON COMMANDER'S CORNER

PART II

(The swirling tunnel of blue light reverts into a starfield as the squadron of TIE Avengers drops back into realspace over Tusorix.  A short distance off is the Warrior and the rest of her battlegroup.  Major Westric "Dav" Davalorn keys his comm.  "Warrior, this is Rho One," he states. "Requesting docking clearance for Rho Squadron."

"Acknowledged, Rho One," responds the docking controller on the Warrior. "You are cleared for landing."

A short while later, the twelve Avengers are docked and powered down.  The Rho Squadron pilots are milling about in the hangar, celebrating another successful mission and enjoying some playful banter on each pilot's performance.

Catching the eye of Rho Squadron's Executive Officer, Captain Alexandre “ossusplayz” Morgan, Dav motions for the younger man to follow him to the turbolift, leaving the rest of the squadron to socialize.  A couple minutes later, both pilots walk through the door of General Frown's office and salute.

Returning the salute, Frown asks, "I assume you're here to report on your recent mission, Major Davalorn?"

"Yes, sir," Dav confirms. "When we arrived in-system, we initially assumed that the station was undefended as the intel suggested. However, as we made our attack run, two squadrons of enemy fighters launched from the station. Surprisingly, they were old Clone Wars era Separatist tri-fighters."

"Interesting," is the general's only response.

"Luckily, they weren't operating at full efficiency and we made short work of them," Dav continues. "Captain Morgan and Lieutenant Commander Marr finished off the station by destroying the reactor vents as planned and we jumped out with hardly a scratch."

"Very good," responds Frown. "I expect a full report in my datapad by the end of the day.  Dismissed."

The two pilots salute, wheel around, and exit the office.

"Round everyone up for the debrief," Dav instructs Ossus. "I'm going to finish up the report and then I'll meet you there."

"Formal or casual?" asks Ossus.

"First successful mission in the Avengers?" Dav says grinning. "I think drinks are in order."

The two pilots go their separate ways.  A couple minutes later, Dav enters his office, sits down behind his desk, and begins composing his next report.

Pilots of Rho Squadron,

Congratulations on our first successful mission in the new TIE Avengers!  A special thanks to Captain Morgan for his mission proposal.

Also, thanks to all pilots who submitted proposals for the new Rho Squadron recruitment banner.  Congratulations to Lieutenant Commander neurotictim for his winning submission!

Congratulations to Lieutenant Commander Bronx Bluar, Commander Cray Xerious, Captain Alexandre “ossusplayz” Morgan, and Captain FamePlane on their recent promotions!  I for one will be taking advantage of the mandatory free drinks.

On a more serious note, General Frown has noticed that we are behind on the processing of pilot records.  Please take a moment to update your INPR, uniform, and personal craft information.

That's all the news I have for now.

For peace and order throughout the galaxy!  For the Empire!

COMPETITIONS

The full list of current competitions can be found here in the Competitions Center.

Rholl Call

Due to the recent influx of new recruits in the past few months, coupled with the large fleet-wide wargames of Imperial Storm IV and Squadron (Re)Mobilization IV, General Frown has noticed a backlog in the processing of personnel records for many of Rho Squadron’s pilots. All Rho Squadron pilots are urged to review their personnel records to ensure their INPR, uniform, and personal craft are accurate and current.

To qualify, INPRs and uniforms must be updated during the competition timeframe. Minor updates to existing INPRs will be accepted. All submissions will be reviewed by the Squadron Commander and judged based on several factors, including uniqueness, creativity, and quality. The top three pilots will receive an Iron Star Silver Ribbon, Iron Star Bronze Ribbon, and Iron Star Copper Ribbon, respectively. All pilots that submit a fully completed INPR with an updated uniform and a customized personal craft will receive an Operational Readiness Award.

NOTE: Keep in mind that in the Emperor's Hammer timeline, the current year is 30 ABY (30 years after the Battle of Yavin). If your pilot is 20 years old, they would be born 10 ABY. If your pilot is 45 years old, they would be born 15 BBY (15 years before the Battle of Yavin).

Protect the COM!

For the month of September, VA Marenta will play as many online games as reasonably possible and ping the ISDII Warrior for teammates. VA Marenta will keep a running tally of all Legions of Combat and Legions of Skirmish she earns with the people on the Warrior. For each game that a person earns a Legion with VA Marenta on their team will earn 1 point.

The pilot with the most points at the end of the month will earn an IS-GW, second most will earn an IS-SW, so on and so forth.

Emperor's Hammer at War!

To honor the addition of Empire at War to the TIE Corps‘ supported games, you are challenged to partner up and complete the fastest PvE match of Empire at War. You and your partner must face 2 AI opponents on Hard, No Superweapons, No Heroes, and 2000 starting credits with a win condition of destroy enemy space station.

Only one submission per team sent via Discord DM or email (vapinvanman@gmail.com) to CPT Vapen Vanman. You must include a screenshot of the game settings and a screenshot of the win screen (with the Base displayed on the right for IS-CW credit).

Good luck and pilots, to your fighters!

Signal Scramble Infection

Before VA Marenta's time as the Warrior Commodore, she used her faithful TIE Reaper, BESSIE, during a mission in which her com circuitry was corrupted and led to cascading and repetitive damage. Being the brilliant logistician she was, she decided to appropriate her vessel from Inferno Squadron and bring it with her to the ISDII Warrior. Unfortunately, it still has the bug of a strange frequency being transmitted into her ship. The messages are simply random 3, 4, and 5 letter combinations repeated for approximately 2 standard weeks before the letter combinations change again. In an effort to help figure out what the messages mean, Marenta has tasked the Warrior to make up phrases for the letter combinations and polling the fleet to determine which is the most likely. Every 2 weeks VA Marenta will generate 3, 4, and 5 random letter combinations and create a Google Form to allow personnel onboard ISDII Warrior to fill out with a time frame of 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, the responses will be put up in a poll where the Warrior members will vote on the responses provided. The members voting will NOT be able to see which phrase was submitted by which member. After a 2 week voting period, to keep the submissions along the same time period as the voting, VA Marenta will announce the winners. Each season will have 6 full rounds of entries/voting/results. Example: VTK Vocal Tauntauns? Kill! FTWN Free The Wookies Now! VAAAS Vacations At Alderaan Are Stupid

The Challenge with Words

After a particularly bad batch of Chalquilla was distributed by Inferno Squadron, medical was inundated with severely hungover and somewhat illiterate members of the fleet. The tanks had been infected with a spore that ate sugar and spit out alcohol, like yeast. But, this spore also had a side effect, it secreted a neuro inhibitor that ate away people’s knowledge. To help “stimulate” some learning, Inferno, along with the medical crew, have started sending out word puzzles to help the members of the fleet regain some of their lost knowledge.

At the beginning of every month, VA Marenta will generate a word search and post the link along with announcing the previous month’s entrants. Each month, the puzzle will be related to something specific like planets, people, craft, manufacturers, wars, a movie/book/series, etc. Each puzzle will be 50 words and the site will keep track of all submissions.

This competition will utilize the time test on the website in lieu of using the first-entrant on the host site.

TIE Corps in Battle Season Five

Rounds for Season Five are being initiated mid-month to avoid the usual competition cycle. With the first round starting on the 16th, it'll run until the end of September 16th just to keep it simple. The second round should start on September 15th to get us on a more standard mid-month schedule. Assuming it starts on September 15th, it'll run until the end of October 15th. That means that TCiB will overlap with Raise the Flag, but each of the rounds that overlap with RtF also have half of their runtime outside of RtF.

Assignments for the first round:

TIE-TC 214: The Virus https://tc.emperorshammer.org/download.php?id=1046&type=info

XvT-TC 102 - Wing VIII: Shadow of Time https://tc.emperorshammer.org/download.php?id=1135&type=info

XWA-TC 13: Hammer to Anvil Part II https://tc.emperorshammer.org/download.php?id=519&type=info

Good luck, pilots!

Conundrums in Hyperspace: A Logic Puzzle Series

To help you keep your wit sharp and your skill in hyperspace navigation up to snuff as an elite pilot of the TC, a series of devious logic puzzles will be provided to you, one each month, for a total of four months. These puzzles will require logic, deduction, creativity, and careful observation. One puzzle will be posted at the start of each month, with varying themes of (Star Wars) space travel. Some puzzles will require drawing - either electronically, or printing and using a pencil - in order to complete with the least difficulty. However, each puzzle will solve to either a single word or series of words that can then be entered on the submission site.

While the puzzles will not be easy, the rewards will be great! The fastest correct solver each month will earn 4 points and an IS-GR; the second place 3 points and an IS-SR; the third place 2 points and an IS-BR; and all other correct solvers 1 point each.

At the end of all four months, the top scorer will earn an IS-PR, provided they submitted attempts for all four puzzles. If there is a tie by points, then the IS-PR will go to the one with the lowest overall solving time for all four months. 2nd and 3rd place overall will receive an IS-GR and IS-SR respectively.

Design the Ship and Squadron Mascots

Create a graphic for a squadron which MUST include its patch and mascot in some capacity (see table below). It is up to you, the designer whether to combine them together in some artistic form, fuse them or outright slap one of top of each other or whatever else you may think of doing. The only restriction is that the squadron patch and some form of the mascot are both in the art design (see mascot list below).

The List of Mascots per Ship / Squadron is as follows:

Challenge: Thunderbird; Hammer: Hamster; Warrior: Charhound

Alpha: Penguin; Avenger: Porg; Beta: Bantha; Delta: Demon Dogs; Eagle: Sam Eagle (Blue Eagle from the Muppet Show); Epsilon: Eopie; Firebird: Phoenix; Gamma: Rancor; Inferno: Firefox; Kappa: Dragon; Lambda: Emu; Raven: Bartraven (Bart as a Raven, see Homer Simpson); Rho: Nightstrike; Sigma: Gundark; SIN: Nexu; Tempest: 00D-LE5 (Homicidal mouse droid); Theta: Kraken; Thunder: Kirin; Vulture: Vulture
