All in all not bad, though M5 was obnoxious. Never was a fan of the way XWA handled your ship being disabled.
One of my fav battles in the original game.
All the missions look pretty and are faithful to the original but somethings been lost in this translation.
Difficulty settings are not fun. Had to fly mission 5 with cheats in the end and easy through the rest of the battle.
Still worth flying and still fun tho.
I'm going to be slightly contrarian and knock it a point, because something has absolutely been lost in translation with regards to balance and difficulty. But otherwise kudos all around, fun to play TIE Battle #1 in XWA form.
Every single battle of TFTC-R is an abolute masterpiece. As if the original TIE-Fighter was not one of the best games ever conceived, TFTC-R tops it - on every single mission. It is not only that the graphics, sound and joystick support cababilities were brought today's standards with underlying XWAU package. TFTC-Reimangined also set out to redisgn the original TF missions reimagining what they could have looked like if it wasn't for TF's 1994 engine limitations (e.g. only ~30 ships in space at any given time) yielding huge battles which truely make you feel as part of a mighty imperial war machine rather than a lonely TIE Fighter pilot taking on the galaxy. They even did full voice acting, remastering of the soundtrack and ironed out some story quirks - it is insane. They did what they set out to do - mission accomplished - and then some!
Here are some of my observation after trying out TFTC for the first time.
• I very much miss the pause while looking at the goals or mission map
• I very much miss the alt-T option
• with this stuff the game is VERY MUCH more challenging and fast... after getting smacked by Z95s 4 times in a row on mission one on hard, I toned it down to medium which was a way more pleasant experience
• I consider myself an experienced and good player of the oldies, but it took me like 5 retries for B1M1 on medium to finish... either a random laser volley (yes... volleys are a real death sentance for T/F) or a crash into one of the freighters while trying to use them for partial cover.
• Unlike the original TF I find the unlinked lasers a much more fun option (probably just my subjective opinion)
• The dock with the reload craft and fire unlimited missiles doesn't work as they will detonate on the docked craft and insta-kill you both
• goals dont scroll so if there's a lot of them you can't see them all
• sometimes the background music just stops working. restarting the game fixes it
• looking at the controls I clicked the "prtscr" button and had the onedrive popup with bloatware crap, it instantly crashed the game with no errors. After telling onedrive NO, NEVER... no problems anymore.
An enjoyable little campaign that is a lot more fun in TFTC than it ever was in TIE. The story is simple but engaging, the original TIE writers really knew their stuff, and the TFTC have really knocked it out of the park and brought it into the 21st century!
Battle 1 was basically a second crash course using the four main ships, TIE, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, and Assault Gunboat. The missions were all easily completable on a first try using Easy mode (assuming I didn't ram into an enemy ship or get too close to an exploding capital ship). I'm unsure if I missed it, but it seems like there was no intro to the Secret Order stuff. It was just boom, I saw SO items on the objective list and then in the post mission briefing there would be a blurb about the Secret Orders. I feel like I missed some setup there. Their usage of the Nav Buoys have felt pretty good so far. Nice to be aiming straight for them upon launch and have a short distance to fly .Also the couple of times the mission didn't end until you flew back home did feel right narratively compared to some EH missions I've flown in the past.
Overall the Battle flowed together pretty well except for the jumping between craft.
This battle starts with the very familiar Outpost D-34 patrol and inspection, but now the platform feels impressive and the variety of ships is cool. The TIE Fighter is weak though, and XWA is far less forgiving than TIE so some early missions can be frustrating. Remember to check your quarters for the loot and emails, there's some good stuff there.
There are currently no open bug reports for this battle.
