Battle Reviews

The story was good but, on easy, there is a lot of waiting in this battle for things to happen after all enemies have been killed. I am a firm believer that missions should be coded such that when all opposition is gone, any timers are instantly completed (or as quickly as they can be) to honor the player's time.

It's an Ender battle. You will see some typical Rebel ships. You'll see some unusual pirate or civillian ships. You won't be terribly endangered, probably won't have too many missiles shot at you. I feel like I could copy and paste this over and over. Perfectly servicable, not very memorable as it's on the straight side rather than silly side of Ender's oeuvre

Mission 4 , it's not buged but this last mission should have little fix with A/gun AI, sometimes all 8 a/gun attack one target, sometimes they fire too much torpedos at main target and mission failed .Maybe change their enter points (from hyperspace ) when shuttle exit targets hangar they will just disable shuttle.I play this mission around ten times enough for me:) .

Easy/medium flying skills required when completing this set of missions, although mission 4 did be come a little frustrating. Nothing really special here, just a nice quick 4 FCHG points.

Same frustrating issue. The 'sophisticated' DREAD Mk.I is not showing up in mission 4 (always the last one has to be bugged, it's a classical rule). However other kind of DREADs are EFFECTIVELY present in the missions, and look exactly the same as the 'special' Dreadnaught cruiser which ruins the whole battle. Frustrating as usual.

Discovered that Transports don't launch without the DREAD Mk I patch, but after installing it, the game crashes when I go to select armaments...

Battle requires Dreadnaught Mk 1 patch but this is not stated in the mission compendium. Mission 4: Some of TRN Gekko do not return to the DREAD Achilles.

Description
-----------
This mission is part of a series of free missions about each of the squadrons in the ASF doing
missions following their squadron objective in their assigned craft. Each mission tries to give
a feel and a bit of history of each of the Squadrons. All the storylines of the missions are
interconnected and have the ASF Squadrons join together against a common foe. In storyline these
happen after the larger Wing Battles. It is continued in "ASF: Beligerance"

Story Line
----------

Mission 1: TIE Corps recon has detected a well hidden temperary Spine Security Force base, that the
NR-SSF rigged together from a few containers placed within an asteroid field.

The NR-SSF has been planting various of these smaller bases all over the Corellian Trade
Spine to be able to resupply their ships along the whole route while also using them for
defence and research purposes.

Because of the asteroidfield the base cannot be easily approached by starships, but a small
force of fighters should be able to break through its defences and take it out. The TIE
corps however does want to know what the Base is harboring before its completely destroyed.

----------

Mission 2: The TIE Corps Interdictor Artemis is "going fishing" together with the FRG Endurance and four
Aggressor Strike Force Squadrons. "Going Fishing" is the colloquial name for a tactic that places
an Interdictor close to a busy enemy shipping lane, in this case the Corellian Trade Spine, and
just raid whatever you might happen to pull out of hyperspace. Needless to say, this is not a tactic
that requires a lot of preparation.

The New Republic Cruiser Cavalry, carrying the Spine Security force Wing XII, is going on a far
better planned strike on a Yornakal Platform. The NR-SSF Leadership is disgruntled with the
Yornakai over a business deal and this strike is supposed to teach them a lesson they won't forget.

----------

Mission 3: The CRS Hopefull is having a rendez-vous with a Genko cruiser on the border between Genkoan
and New Republic space. The New Republic Spine Security Force is trying to broker a peace
between their allies the Genkoans and the Jeh'Ree - who had a falling out over a deal the
Genkoans made with the Emperor's Hammer.

That same Emperor's Hammer has sent in a small force led by the VSD Gilded Claw to disrupt
the meeting, hoping the Genkoans might decide not to deal with the NR-SSF if the riscs
involved are too high. The problem the Gilded Claw will face however is a defence shield of
mines the Genkoans placed on the border... but those same mines would attack anything of
the New Republic too.

----------

Mission 4: The New Republic's effort to bring the war between the Jeh'Ree System and the Genko System
to an end is starting to pay off: Both systems have agreed to a meeting in neutral space
under NR Spine Security Force protection.

Shuttles carrying Ambassadors from either system will each travel to the starship of the
opposing force at the same time to prevent treasonous practices by either while fighters
from the NR-SSF secure the area from opposing forces...

...Which is where the Emperor's Hammer comes in. The same leak that told them about the
last meeting between the NR-SSF and the Genkoans now informed them where this meeting will
take place. The EH is mostly interested in disrupting the procedings but might try for
something more spectacular.

- version 2:
The original versions of these missions were released as (in battle order) XvTF115, XvTF131
XvTF114 and XvTF110. Besides that they were released too much out of order to make any sense
as a continueing storyline it also appeared that not many people fly "Free's" and as such even
noticed this "cut up battle" - while I think its not bad at all. As such I decided to re-release
it more as a complete package now, about 3 years later, but this time for X-Wing Alliance.

The original idea for the battle was to have a set of missions about the larger ASF escortships
(VSD, INT, ESC, DREAD) focussed on becoming a equally balanced combat missions - meaning it could
be played from both Rebel and Imperial side in XvT MP Combat. This means that each mission has about
equal forces on both sides. To do this I ignored the official craft types of the ASF squadrons
here and there. The squadrons used in each mision ARE connected to the ship in question though.
I also aimed not to use any patches, as that is typically too much bother when doing MP. This means
that the battle is low on craft types, since XvT doesn't have that many different craft standard.

The battle has had a bit more updating then just the conversion from XvT to XWA, because I wanted to
make use of the fuller options XWA offers me. However I did not just add XWA features for the heck of
it, but tried to keep the feel of the original XvT-Free's - obviously I ignored the MP elements.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy it this time. :)
