Section 4: Hierarchy and Internal Structure

Below the Dark Council, the hierarchy of the Brotherhood is made up of Battleteams, Houses and Clans. All are responsible for acquiring new members, the maintenance of new, current, and veteran members, and the creation of strong leaders and activity within each unit. To show your leaders your true worth, you must do their bidding and you will gain prestige and power. The rank and file of the Dark Brotherhood are the Battle Team Members (BTM). Regardless of rank, this is the position most Sith hold. While no minimum or maximum ranks requirement exists for one to become a BTM, only the most active and capable members are asked to fill leadership roles. Leadership and continued activity are the paths to advancement. It is common to see former Summit leaders and Dark Council members as Battle Team Members once they step down from office. Position (BTL, CON, QUA, etc.) is superior to rank. In this fashion, a BTL/GRD (Battle Team Leader with the rank of Guardian), may issue orders and lead even a BTM/DA (a Battle Team Member who attained the rank of Dark Side Adept). Even with the hierarchy, it is customary to treat higher ranking members with respect due to their advanced understanding of the Dark Side of the Force. Woe be to any leader who callously orders about a retired Grand Master!<\p>

The leadership of each unit is called the Summit. In increasing order of precedence, the Summit of a Battle Team is a single person called the Battleteam Leader (BTL). These individuals carry out the daily functions of their respective Battleteams, often leading raids in games such as Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The next most important Summit is the House Summit, consisting of a Quaestor (QUA) and Aedile (AED). The Quaestor is in overall command of his House, assisted by the Aedile. Houses are occasionally assigned independent duty based on one or more capital ships, at the discretion of the Grand Master.

Finally, the largest organization within the Dark Brotherhood hierarchy is the Clan. Clan Summits are led by a Consul (CON) with a Proconsul (PCON) assistant. Note that both Houses and Clans may contain one or more Battleteams as necessary to fulfill members' needs and the functions of the group. More detailed information of these groups can be found in the Dark Side Compendium.
