Section 1: History

Obelisk

Although it is the youngest order in the Dark Brotherhood, the Obelisk Order has thousands of years of history giving it a strong lineage of the combat arts.

Over four thousand years ago, a Force-sensitive warrior named Jalid Gacek served during the Sith War as the personal bodyguard of the Krath High Priest, Ulic Qel-Droma. After the war was finished, he began recruiting the best of the Krath bodyguards based on both their fighting abilities and their sensitivity to the Force. The end result was a group of Dark Jedi who were molded into a fighting force that no one in the galaxy had seen the likes of before.

Taking one of the small frigates from Cinnagar, Jalid and his force headed out into deep space in search of a solitary world where they could focus on their training and hone their skills even finer than they already had become. After weeks in the cold void of the Outer Rim, Jalid felt a disturbance in the Force. This ripple in the Force led the group to a system at coordinates 147-34-130.

Although he wasn't sure what this meant, Jalid led his group to the system. There, they promptly established themselves as lords over the primitive humanoid species that inhabited the second planet of the system, named Sahare. Being treated as gods, the Dark Jedi enslaved the local population and began building a new civilization built on the martial skills of combat.

Now that they ruled the system, Jalid had time to investigate the mysterious hold this place had on him. Leaving the second planet of Sahare, he felt the pull ever stronger as he approached the fourth planet, Kaiburr, in the system. As he neared the surface, he felt his power become greater and greater as this planet was strong in the Force.

After exploring Kaiburr, Jalid realized that the crust contained numerous crystals that allowed for greater focusing of the Force than anyplace that had been found before. These he called "Kaiburr" Crystals, after the planet itself. Slaves were imported to Kaiburr to build a massive citadel in the shape of an obelisk, and it took over four years for the slaves to shape the black crystalline structure into a suitable facility for Jalid's best warriors.

A training area was set up on the second planet for the majority of the warriors that Jalid had brought with him, but only the most gifted Dark Jedi were allowed to train in the Obelisk Citadel of Kaiburr. Hours and hours were devoted daily to practicing their combat skills and in meditation inside the huge fortress made of the focusing crystals pulled from the planet.

Eventually, the slaves on Sahare rose up against the warriors, killing them all, and destroying all of their technology - including the ships that allowed contact between Sahare and Kaiburr. As time went on, the Dark Jedi began to die out on Kaiburr and a few intermarried with the humanoids that had once been their slaves. A Holocron was left behind with the history and knowledge of these supreme warriors... waiting for someone to learn from them...

Four Thousand Years Later...
An Imperial Survey Corps scout ship appeared at the system located at coordinates 147-34-130 under the command of Blazer, a Krath and member of the Dark Brotherhood.

Blazer was on a survey mission, investigating a region at the far reaches of the Emperor's Hammer space when, like Jalid before him, he was drawn to coordinates 147-34-130. Activating the automatic survey system, probe droids were sent out to investigate the various planets in the system and seek out any signs of life or useful technology and equipment.

On the fourth planet, the descendants of the Dark Jedi and their slaves still lived according to the ancient code of warriors that Jalid had installed as their primary belief system thousands of years earlier.

Feeling the same call that Jalid had felt, Blazer and his bodyguards headed for the fourth planet and landed near the monstrous obelisk that towered above the surrounding landscape. As they neared the entrance to the obelisk, the members of the Dark Brotherhood were ambushed by four lightsaber wielding warriors.

Although outnumbering the natives by a ten to one margin, twenty of Blazer's bodyguards were quickly dispatched while only killing three of the four attackers. This left Blazer facing the remaining native warrior. The two were locked in combat for what seemed like hours as they parried each other's blows time and time again. The warrior's prowess was great, but Blazer's stronger Force powers won out as he finally defeated the guard and entered the obelisk. What he found inside was unimaginable.

Just entering the obelisk was enough to make Blazer drop to his knees under the intense focus of the Force. As he became more accustomed and attuned to the strength of the Force, Blazer began to explore the depths of the fortress. As he reached the top levels of the citadel, he found a locked door with an ancient Krath inscription engraved upon it. Well versed in the Krath ways, Blazer read it with ease. It stated,

"Only a Dark Jedi will be able to enter this room and learn its secrets."

Confident in his power and knowledge, Blazer laid his hand on the panel and the door rose. In front of him was a large oval room with a hovering Holocron in the middle. As Blazer took it in his hand, an image of an old robed man appeared in front of him.

"You have been chosen to continue our legacy. It is your destiny to recreate the strongest order of Dark Jedi, stronger then I ever could. This is your destiny.."

The image faded away, yet Blazer could still hear the words, "This is your destiny, this is your destiny..."

Soon, the knowledge from the Holocron was entrusted to Razor, who would become the first Obelisk High Commander of the Dark Brotherhood.

Today, the Karana System, as it is now called, is widely renowned for it's primary export, Kaiburr Crystals, from deposits known to occur naturally only on the planet Kaiburr itself.
