Section 3: Etiquette / Honorable Dueling

This section includes guidelines on how to make a duel run more smoothly, honorably, and be more respectful to all duelers involved. If these guidelines are not followed or broken, they will not be punished (you just look like a punk :P ).

  • Bowing
Before a duel is started (but after a saber challenge is engaged, if it is used), all players involved in the duel should bow to each other as a form of honor. This bow can take the form of the Jedi Academy "bow" move or by crouching in both games. While you may not bow to your opponent, using their bow as an opportunity to attack them is not allowed and will be punished.
  • "Good Fight!"
There are two schools of thought in the Order right now as to congratulating other duelists after a kill or match. In 1v1 duels, one option is to say "gf/Good Fight/etc." after each kill, regardless of how it went, with "Great Fight/vgf/etc." after particularly good duels. The other school of thought feels that "Good Fight/etc." should be stated only after a particularly good fight, to avoid cheapening or patronizing the other duelist if the duel is quick and dirty rather than hard fought. Both schools of thought are valid, so feel free to choose between them and keep in mind that if your opponent does/doesn't say "gf/Good Fight/etc." all the time, they aren't necessarily being disrespectful.
  • Taunting
Friendly taunting, especially using the in-game "laugh" or "saber twirling" taunts are allowed and some level of verbal Star Wars related taunting is allowed as long as both players are comfortable with it and understand that it's just part of the role-playing experience. If a player is uncomfortable with any taunting, they should let the other duelists know and the other duelists should stop immediately. If a duelist does not stop when asked or violates the Articles of War or Codes of Conduct in their taunting, report the duelist to the competition host or the OHC.
  • Move Abusing
Move abusing is where a duelist uses only one move over and over again to defeat their foes without throwing another move or two into the sequence to liven things up. If an opponent favors one move, but still uses others, it is not move abuse. Move abusing should be cut down as much as possible, as it cuts down on the fun and excitement of matches.
The best way to stop move abusers is to find a counter to the abused move, for if the abuser finds their move failing, they will either learn to diversify their attack sequence or lose their duel.
  • Reporting Rules Violations to the GM or competition host
Rules violations reports should include a short write-up of the situation and the events that transpired and should include screenshots of the action, server logs and/or dialogue logs from the console. Reports from other witnesses to the violation(s) are helpful to the arbitrator as well.
  • Obelisk Order IRC Channels
The Obelisk Order channel on the Undernet server of IRC is #kaiburr. This is a great place to hang out and chat with other members of the Obelisk Order. It's also a good place to find a game of JO/JA/JK/SWGBG/SWBF or other platform.
