Battle Reviews

Another battle that suffers from a multitude of bugs, balance issues and poor use of the craft assigned. The Tie Vanguard is not suited for dogfighting, destroying capital ships and fighting off a multitude of Tugs that ram into you constantly, yet these are roles that the craft must perform if you are to beat the missions on hard. It also has a very poor laser capacitor and can be destroyed in two hits. Lack of shields or a beam system hurt this craft heavily.

The battle recreated the operations of Renegade Squadron in the T/V and although a nice original surprise, it is nothing more than fancy shaped old TIE Fighter. The missions are nothing out of the ordinary, mostly inspection runs, but this fits to the role of the squadron. I did enjoy though, the encrypted messages in italian. All'autore voglio dire, che nonostante non ho capito molto bene cosa si doveva, per favore masterizzare questo, ma sappi che mi ha fatto ridere, quando ho capito che forse i nomi erano collegati tra di sé in frasi piú o meno leggibili. Bella mossa.

The goal of this battle is to introduce Renegade Squadron and explore its squadron role of reconnaissance. I love missions based on the actual roles of TC squadrons, so I enjoyed role playing as a member of Renegade Squadron. There are no real surprises, and the explanation for the use TIE Vanguards doesn’t really justify the use of the patch, in my opinion, but we have the patches, so why not use them?

Battle Bug Reports

Mission 1: Z-95 group Propane, Interceptor ship group Omelia and B-Wing group Butane all are set to patrol for craft to attack or Escort, meaning they do not fire back or rarely do if they are attack. Frigate Egalite is not destroyable on hard as it leaves once TRN Butadine is destroyed, and even if you leave it to board and return you do not have the firepower to destroy it as the gunboats are unable to destroy it before it hypers out. TRN group Zulu 2 arrives whether or not you destroy the Egalite even though it should not arrive unless 100% of Global 1, 2, 3 & the Frigate are destroyed. Bonuses to destroy all convoy craft and keep % of wingmen alive impossible on hard.

Mission 2: Bonus for destroying 100% of CRV group Tweeter set to 0 points. TRN Zulu 2 and 4 do not return home after the platforms are captured, making the bonus goals impossible to complete. TRN Zulu 1 & 3 will crash into the platforms after boarding them due to their positions.

Mission 3: If the convoy is disabled and then repaired you do not get credit for mission completion on hard even if it goes to hyperspace, it gets stuck at 50%. Y-Wings will occasionally destroy mission critical convoy craft when attempting to disable them. Frigate Venom and CRV Tango 2 do not fire on enemy corvette group Masterizza

Mission 4: Bonus goals are impossible to complete as it would require the player to destroy 4 platforms in a Tie Vanguard. Interceptor Enforcement ship group Benzene has order to protect the platforms, but if any platform shoots another platform which will occur due to their proximity to each other, Benzene will instead attack the platforms. Bonus goal to destroy 200 tugs and any other bonus goals that exist after the launch of the tugs are impossible to complete as the tugs will ram the player craft to death, and their speed is 160 MGLT which is faster than the max speed of the Tie Vanguard. Surprise spelt incorrectly. ATR Zulu will crash into nearby freighters when attempting to board the Rocky Surprice and explode.

Mission 1: Both sides' capital ships do not engage each other when in range until their second or third set of waypoints.

Mission 2: T\\Vs of Renegade squadron have disable orders despite the Vanguard craft lacking ion cannons. Both sides' capital ships do not engage each other when in range until their second or third set of waypoints.

Mission 3: The EH starships do not move from their entry points and thus are useless spectators instead of the stated purpose of convoy escort.

Mission 4: Some of the civilian freighters crash into other craft or stations.

Description
-----------
This battle has been made to introduce the Squadrons of Wing XXI aboard the Kawolski and
to advertise and test the combined use of the B-Wing and T/V patches for XvT. It
is part of a series of battles about varied TC units and their squadron objectives.

Story Line
----------
1. Renegade Squadron, 134th TIE Corps Squadron, of Wing XXI is based upon the ISDII Kawolski
and its objective is Reconnaissance. Reconnaissance Squadrons locate and inspect any craft
in an area and stop (IF necessary) until reinforcements can arrive to assist in capture/
destruction, OR probe a known targets defences (RE:Enemy!) in preparation for further action
by the Wing.
In this mission you will be doing exactly that; lately it seems the Genko System has gotten
involved with the New Republic again - something which its "neutral" government denies. We
think it might be the location of weapon development that the Republic can't have in its
own Systems on account of public opinion.
As such we're going on a routine check on several Genkoan Bases, which they claim to be
civilian. Check out cargoes of freighters and transports and assess the defences.

2. Unexpectedly, the first routine check on a Genkoan Base immediately paid off; The
Genkoans and New Republic are definitely working together. The fact that this arrangement
isn't hidden from public would suggest the cooperation goes further then expected previously.
Something that's also very interesting is that the Genkoans are shipping the same weird
cargoes as previously recorded by Pyr Squadron, Zlatan Squadron and the Corporate Division.
Goods to look out for are printing ink, fertilizer and paper, though it seems this selection
is being expanded with tugs and hyperdrives. We have no idea what the NR is planning with
these things or why they have been stealing them everywhere.
Perhaps a visit to the site of a previously decommissioned weapons lab in the neighbourhood
might clear up these matters. Recently, there has been activity sighted around it again -
for the first time in months.

3. The Genkoan Weapons Lab we attacked seemed to be the jackpot: we were able to capture a
large amount of uncorrupted data and many New Republic and Genko scientists. The data is
being analysed as we speak, the scientists have been committed to the gentle hands of our
Inquisitors.
Interestingly, one of the first things deducted from the files is a large amount of
civilian shipping data in the Emperor's Hammer's Territories - concentrating on
corporations that move the aforementioned goods: Printing Ink, Paper, Fertilizer and Tugs.
We're sending you to check out one of these convoys, which seems to be the odd one out: A
smaller shipment of hyperdrives - coincidentally those used in TIE Vanguards...

4. We were quite shocked that the Genkoans used TIE Vanguards in their assault on that
convoy - even though the T/V is an older and more common craft in the Galaxy, the Genkoans
haven't been known to use them before. We also have no idea where they have gotten them
from: We're not missing any as far as we know.
Interrogation of the captured base personnel and analysis of the files found there has
pointed out that the centre of the secret New Republic operation is most likely a larger
commercial base on the border between Genko and NR space.
We're sending in Renegade Squadron to check it out. Since most of our forces are committed
elsewhere, we cannot give you a lot of support: as such, just gather as much data as you
can and get out again.

NOTE
-------------------
You need XvT (or at least all the ships involved there) AND the B-Wing, IES and TIE Vanguard
Patch. To fly as a team all players need the same version, make sure you all have the
update by lucasarts installed.
