ISD-II Challenge
Wing Commander Denys Elara
Report ID: WC.DE.10973-4
Report date: november 22nd, 2020

Prologue

As patient as Elara had been over the past two weeks, she was starting to get a little annoyed. She didn't mind the extra paperwork, she was used to that. She didn't mind telling the occasional little lie to the TIE Corps Commander. Such things were inherent in her position. Keeping the truth from the pilots of the ISD-II Challenge bugged her a little more, but they were pilots. They didn't need to know what their Commodore was up to.

No, it was the fact that she didn't know what was going on that was starting to get to her. She'd sent out a few probe droids to try and locate High Admiral Dempsey, but all had reported nothing of interest, nothing to indicate where the admiral might have gone off to. Or why. Or for how long. Most importantly, something might have happened. And without knowing where Dempsey was, there was nothing Elara could do. And that scared the living daylights out of her.

Wing Commander's announcements

Pilots of the ISD-II Challenge, Fleet Admiral Plif, this week there will be no report by High Admiral Dempsey again as she has tasked me to do so. I assure you she will return to doing her own reports soon.

Let's start with the awards ceremony that was held last evening. Last week we saw the first medals arrive for the evaluations done in October, and then just after I released my first Wing Commander report, the rest of the flood poured in. Congratulations again to all, and well done! All pilots of the Challenge are also invited to the public spacing of Engineer Ozzel, one of the chief mechanics on this ship, who's been swiping the Commodore's medals over the past few months. The spacing will take place at airlock 7B on deck 15 and will commence at 16.00 sharp. This spacing will coincide with the spacing of his brother who serves on the ISD-II Hammer and was caught stealing HA Woody's medals.

Next up, after the departure of GN Berkana to the ISD-II Hammer, MAJ Tygra Shadowclaw was appointed to replace him and lead Thunder squadron to great heights. Congratulations to you!

The Challenge wide competition, Wake Me Up When November Ends, is entering its final week. As the competition lasts for the entire month, the deadline for your week #4 entries as well as the fictions will be November 30th, so next Monday. A final results sub-report will be released on Tuesday or Wednesday. The competition is progressing well, with 3 pilots now breaking the 100pts barrier.

The opening up of a new IW squadron has been delayed for a bit until we can find some more recruits. We wouldn't want to send out this squadron into battle and watch how MAJ Talon Jade has to fight the enemy all on his own. It might be fun for awhile, but I'd rather keep his ship intact and unscathed. Those dang alphabet fighters are more expensive to maintain than our stock TIE Fighters it seems.

I'd like to welcome aboard Sub-lieutenant EchoVII, who joins Inferno squadron and immediately earned himself a promotion to Lieutenant. May your time aboard be a profitable one. Also, kudos are in order for LT Mo Kongo and LT Dynamus, who both received a well-deserved promotion to Lieutenant Commander.

Lastly on the bill, we currently have 2 open slots on the roster, one a Flight member spot in Inferno squadron, the other a Flight Leader spot in Thunder squadron. Applications to be sent to MAJ Shadowclaw for those who are interested. Unfortunately, there are signals this number will increase soon as there are a number of people who have shown no signs of activity for a long while now.

The following officers aboard this ship received medal for their contributions to the fleet this week:

  • SS: HA Dempsey, GN Elwood, COL Naiilo, COL Stryker, CM EvilGrin, LCM Dynamus, LCM TI-40026, LT Angel
  • BS: MAJ Jade, LCM ERiSi, LT Caelleigh, LT Freddo, LT Setroc

    Dempsey's Weekly Screenshots

Every week, the report will have a screenshot. Not necessarily from a Star Wars movie. First Challenge pilot to send the correct answer to the mailing list wins. Each victory earns you an IS-BR. Unless it's a 5th victory, you then get a IS-SR. Unless it's a 10th victory, which gives you an IS-GR. A 25th victory will give you an IS-PR!
Remember - your answer has to go to the list.

Wake me up when November ends

This is the big Challenge wide competition of the year. Every week we will play 4 games: Flying (Single player and Multiplayer), Movie quote trivia, Image trivia and an online game. The trivia will be played via the Timed Events option on the TC website. Screenshots for Multiplayer and online games need to be emailed to me, and for the Single player competition you can simply forward me the BSF email. Each week starts at the release of my COM report on Sunday, and ends the next Saturday at midnight CET. There is also a 5th game: Fiction. Each pilot can submit upto 3 fictions to participate, but only one fiction will be taken into consideration for the rankings (unless the total of fictions received is less than 5). For every game, each week the top 10 pilots will be awarded points: from 1st to 10th place you will earn 20, 16, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 points. With exception to the Fiction, which will only yield points at the end of the month, and for the top 5 fictions: 20, 15, 10, 5, 3 points.

Each week, every game will see its winner, with the top 2 pilots for that week earning Iron Stars (Silver and Bronze Wings/Ribbons). At the end of the competition, pilot scores will be tallied per game over all 4 weeks and the top 3 pilots win (Gold/Silver/Bronze Wings/Ribbons). The scores for each pilot will also be tallied over all submissions during the entire month, with another (Gold/Silver/Bronze Wings/Ribbons) up for grabs. There's an extra medal to be had if a single pilot manages to grab the win in 2 games, and one if a pilot manages to grab the win in 3 games. As an extra bonus, there's two more medals available: the pilot who has the highest score wins his Commander and IS-SR, while the squadrons that accumulates most points over all pilots wins its Commander an IS-GR.

    WEEK 4

Photo round This week's photo round takes us back to the good old days, when MTV still had music videos. So it's simple - name both the artist and the title of the song. If you only get the artist correct, or only get the title correct, half points will be awarded here.

Pilot's Arena The object of the game is not to reach the highest score, or fly the most missions, or complete the most objectives. I will give you a target score. Whoever gets closest wins. This ensures that even a newbie pilot fresh out of the Academy has a shot at winning! For the MP part, you must be on the winning side of course.

Single player segment: TIE free #260; target: 30,128 pts
Multi player segment: Star Wars Squadrons: Fleet battle vs AI; target: 7,518 pts

What did you say? This game revolves around movie quotes. But it won't always be as simple as identifying the movie! Even though this week that is exactly what I wish to know as we play And the answer is.... This week, the objective is to tell me the response after the given line was spoken, AND the movie this is from. This might be a hard one, we'll see.
If you only get the response correct, or only get the movie title correct, half points will be awarded here.

Online insanity This game will be playing on online game. The object of the game is to reach the highest score you can. Screenshots to be taken with score clearly visible of course.
This week: Hot Wheels Race Car Rush! https://play.hotwheels.com/en-gb/games/race-car-rush.html/

Musings of a madman This is not a weekly game, but this will run the entire month. Write a fiction. It can be about whatever you want it to be, feature whatever you want, and can be as long as short as you want, with any writing style you desire. The only stipulation is that somehowb it has ot feature the Challenge or one of its pilots. All submissions will be submitted to the Warden's Office at the end of the competition. You can submit up to three fictions per pilot, but each pilot is eligible for only one medal, and one set of points. If there's less than 5 pilots submitting, this last stipulation is rescinded.

    Current results:

Week 3 is done. Firebird takes a commanding lead, scoring more points than the other three sqwuadrons combined. Are they unstoppable now? The photo round was hard this week, as only 1 pilot managed to get all 10 animals correct! The movie quotes made up for that, with half the entries scoring 10 correct answers.

    photo round: Dougal Caelleigh (20pts), TI-40026 (16pts), Jedgar (12pts), EvilGrin (10pts), Mell Kerrigan (8pts), Marek Ny`Irfa (6pts), Phalk Sturm (5pts), Tygra Shadowclaw (4pts), Silwar Naiilo (3pts), Stryker (2pts), Talon Jade (1pt)

    single player: Phalk Sturm (20pts, -25), Hermann (16pts, +122), NiksaVel (12pts, -125), Jedgar (10pts, +229), Stryker (8pts, -302)

    multi player: Elwood the Brave (20pts, +1), Stryker (16pts, -211), Talon Jade (12pts, +361), Horus Blackheart (10pts, -857)

    quotes round: TI-40026 (20pts), Stryker (16pts), Talon Jade (12pts), EvilGrin (10pts), Jedgar (8pts), Marek Ny`Irfa (6pts), Kadon Beir (5pts), Silwar Naiilo (4pts), Mell Kerrigan (2pts), Phalk Sturm (1pt)

    online game: Marek Ny`Irfa (20pts, 102), TI-40026 (16pts, 78), Stryker (12pts, 71), Kadon Beir (10pts, 69), Talon Jade (8pts, 64), Kalve Ryder (6pts, 53), Silwar Naiilo (4pts, 41), Neko (2pts, 39), Iam Thinking (1pt, 32)

    Top pilot: TI-40026 (160pts)
    Runner-up: Stryker (124pts)
    3rd place: Phalk Sturm (105pts)

    Firebird: 497pts
    Tempest: 331pts
    Inferno: 153pts
    Thunder: 54pts

Note: if I have missed something in these scores, let me know!

    Week 3 answers:

photo round: Pangolin, Shoebill, Goblin shark, Blobfish, Mandril, Zorse, Proboscis monkey (odd-nosed monkey), Tasmanian Devil, Markhor (screw horn goat), Peacock spider.
Sorry, pangolins and armadillos may look alike, but they're not even in the same order, biologically speaking

quotes round: HAL 2000 (2001: A Space Odyssey), Kaffee (A Few Good Men), Oliver (Love Story) or Howard Bannister (What's Up, Doc?), Luke Skywalker (The Empire Strikes Back), Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games), Scarlett O'Hara (Gone With the Wind), Mark Watney talking to himself (The Martian), Tina Gray (A Nightmare on Elm Street), David Carlton (Ali G In Da House), Ellen Ripley (Alien).
Unfortunately, 2 pilots misread the assignment and gave me the names of the movies. They both scored 0 correct answers then, but still qualified for points as they were the 9th and 10th submission... Also fun fact: Oliver and Howard Bannister were polayed by the same actor....

    Final words

There's one more week in the squadron competition. It may look like everything's said and done, but there's a lot of points available, and we still have the fiction contest to deal with. The race for top pilot is closer, let's see if COL Stryker or LC Phalk can turn the tide! Participation is everything this last week!
