Epsilon PatchEPSILON SQUADRON REPORT #5Epsilon Patch

REPORTING COMMANDER: General La'an

REPORTING PERIOD: 18/6/22-28/7/22
DATE SUBMITTED: 28/7/22

Epsilon PatchFROM THE HANGAREpsilon Patch

The fighters assigned to the squadron had remained the same, a reassuring constant that belied a swathe of new faces joining Epsilon's ranks. It was normal of course to see pilots rotate in and out of a line squadron as the vagaries of their careers took them to new opportunities or challenges, but even still it took some getting used to and he could feel the different atmosphere. Not better, not worse, but certainly different...

Today's task was a deep dive into personnel files, reports and statistics that his position meant he had to give his full and undivided attention - the risk of an errant full stop or misplaced word would lead to unwanted conversations with the Wing Commander at best and administrative errors that penalised his pilots at worst. Neither was particularly welcome. Glancing at his schedule La'an noticed a scheduled shakedown flight with the new Lts and SLts to get a measure of their ability - not in a simulator, but in a very real fighter. He'd have a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses soon enough, but more importantly the character of those he trusted to fly on his wing.

Epsilon PatchSQUADRON NEWSEpsilon Patch

Welcome all to this fifth report from myself as Epsilon CMDR - as is probably evident this report is significantly overdue and I'm forming bad habits in this regard. So much of our communication these days is provided as automatic database entries or via Discord, with constant and frequent conversations, notifications and chats that the humble report increasingly feels like a relic of the past. That being said it's important to note that even now we don't have 100% Discord usage and emotive as that subject may be, it rests on us to ensure that those who aren't on the server still get a feel for what the squadron, ship and TC are up to. If they feel alienated or unable to take part fully, lets make sure it's not for want of effort or care on our part. My commitment today is to do better in that regard and keep these coming out fornightly, along with the rest of the blather I bombard you with daily on the server!

We've emerged from the other side of Re-Mob and I'm pleased to note we completed 2 of 8 objectives, entitling us to review our own squadron objective - 2 isn't as showy as the more active squadrons, but I'm pleased that we achieved a positive performance by hitting the fiction and 15 kill PvP targets - the weight havign been carried by Witcher and Gytheran in the main. Well done!

The MSE season is on us once again, so please make sure those of you with time to burn squeeze any extra activity in within the last few days of the month. Remember that promotion criteria aren't just those within the manual, but there's an expectation of a merit medal earned for every month of minimum 'time in rank' required. If (for example) it's 4 months needed, there need to be 4 merit medals on file since your last promotion, regardless of whether it's been in 4 months or 14. For the SLs you simply need to complete a single database activity - INPR entry, LoS, LoC, uniform or Imperial University Course. It couldn't be simpler, but don't be afraid to reach out for guidance if needed. Acronyms aren't always helpful! For those wishing to get to LCM and beyond, don't forget that TCCORE is a prerequisite - now helpfully accessible on the TC site without the need for a different EH site or login, while the tets itself is auto-marked and will give you an instant return. No excuses!

As I've alluded to above we've seen significant movement in the last 5-6 weeks - CPT Gytheran requested a transfer to Lambda I wa shappy to endorse and he had now left us. I'll always prioritise your club experience first, over any demands for 'loyalty' to a single squadron or ship, while I actively encourage you all to move around and sample the very different ship and squadron cultures on offer. There's always Epsilon or the Hammer to come back to, but don't limit your opportunities. LTs Manxman Phrick and LC Taygetta have departed us for the RSVs and I hope we see them back very soon as they'll be missed - particularly Taygetta as a previous Epsilon CMDR who spent a lot of time pushing this squadron along. Finally, Lt Wookie9c has unfortunately been declared AWOL due to dropping off the radar without any comms at all - we hope they return to us, but I would also say that if you intend to leave please just let us know - rather than start a 30 day counter that ties our hands administratively.

On the other side of the personnel moves, welcome to SL Elliot, SL Tidus Frelander SL (now LT!) Nova Discordia and the more venerable CM Haoyu. I've spoken to you all on Discord already, but on behalf of the rest of Epsilon we hope you enjoy your time here. Nova has already started flying SP and earned a CoB, IAR and promotion - for the remainder if you have any questions about how to get going ask anyone and they'll help you out. Finally, a big congratulations to MAJ Witcher on his promotion, with his recent activity levels having allowed me to reward him for his long service as SQXO and his flying and fiction contributions. Having moved to the vacant Flight 2 FL position as its now the tied SQXO spot, LCM Isagar Sho'oter has stepped up as Flight 3 FL and I'm sure will lead by example.

I'll continue to be accessible via e-mail as needed, but Discord will be the easiest way to reach me - as CMDR and COMM I can assure you I'm everywhere and there should be no reason why I can't be found if needed. I look forward to catching up with you all very soon!

Lastly, welcome to Gamma Squadron opening once again and making the Hammer home to 6 fighter squadrons for the first time in a very long one - a welcome indication of success, so fingers crossed they grow quickly and go from strength to strength. ...next stop a 4th ship...?
Epsilon PatchSTANDING ORDERSEpsilon Patch
STANDING EPSILON POLICY:

I have no intention of overturning or unduly modifying the previous CMDR's standing orders, therefore for now they are to be considered extant - they will be reviewed in detail soon but will likely not change wholesale.

I am requesting that you reach out to your FLs at least once a week either through email, through Discord DMs or via the squadron channel on the TC server. Squadron level communication has previously been identifed as an issue - I highly recommend you join the Discord by typing ehtc.chat into your web browser. Discord is where 90% of communication within the TC now happens and the majority of day to day conversations involving this squadron. Failure to utilise it will highly limit your ability to enjoy the experience of the TC, or indeed follow what is actually happening - equally you run the risk of being transferred to the RSVs as inactive unless you tell us otherwise.

The people you need to reach out to at least once per week are as follows:

Flight 1 - GN La'an (CMDR)
Flight 2 - MAJ Witcher (FL/SQXO)
Flight 3 - LCM Isagar Sho'oter(FL)

Epsilon PatchROSTEREpsilon Patch
Epsilon Squadron remains at 12 (-) pilots strong - I hope to see this number remain high, but where required by the review process be advised that I won't shy away from making clear recommendations on transfers. Likewise, if anyone wishes to depart the squadron please let me know and we can take the required admin action, rather than drifting out of touch over a period of months.
