Commodore HA Dempsey reporting
Report ID: H.AD.022
Report date: January 10th, 2021
The mighty Imperial-II class Star Destroyer Challenge was in orbit over a small world orbiting a mediocre and insignificant little yellow star. The warship had taken position directly above the only spaceport on the planet, effectively blocking all travel to and from the planet surface. Several supply freighters had been order to turn back as they exited hyperspace, one of which refused to comply. Swift action from Tempest squadron had destroyed the freighter, it's charred remains a deadly sign to all others that they would not be landing their ships on the planet this time.
LC Denys Elara, Wing Commander and personal aide to the ship's Commodore, had travelled to the surface to meet with the planet's government. Her task was simple: convince the new government that they did indeed fall under Imperial Rule as their planet lies within the borders of Imperial space. And as such, the Imperial taxes had to be paid. A transport craft carrying several small Imperial walkers and a troop transport carrying a full platoon of stormtroopers were on their way to the surface as well. The planet had not had an Imperial garrison for several years, as the previous government paid their taxes on time, and never bothered the Emperor's Hammer. But this new governor had called a stop to that. And so, it was time to establish a permanent Imperial presence on the planet.
This process was a tedious and boring task. Fly to the planet, convince some upstart politician to see the light, and drop off some troops. Hardly worth the time and effort of a High Admiral in the Imperial Navy. But, it had to be done.
The bridge of the Star Destroyer was quiet, as each officer was focussed on their own tasks, when a blip caught her attention. She turned her head in the general direction of its origin. Which would be the long range sensor station. Dempsey just looked at the officer in question, who didn't seem to notice. His hands were frantically moving over his controls, as he was apparantly trying to figure out the meaning of the blip. A moment later, his hands froze. He looked up.
Calmly, he spoke. 'Admiral, we're detecting several ships coming out of hyperspace.' Dempsey nodded. 'But these are not freighters, sir. I'm detecting three medium sized cruisers and several other ships. The computer is still trying to figure out what exactly they are, but they're not transmitting a transponder signal.'
Dempsey rose from her chair. 'Battle stations,' she said. 'Raise the shields and alert all squadrons to standby for launch. Signal MAJ Shadowclaw to dispatch one flightgroup to make a flyby. I want to know who
they are and what they are.'
Welcome to another report from your favorite Commodore.
Behind the scenes, there's some discussion going on about competitions. Not just the medal structure, but also and more importantly about their number and duration. As response to this, I've urged my Commanders to come up with a squadron competition as I'd like to see them. That means in the first place: short, and in second place: not just another 'fly most missions' or 'get most high scores'. As you may have noticed I like a little creativity. So, let's see what they come up with. All squadrons: prepare for a nice little squadron competition to be run somewhere in February.
Second, the Monthly Evaluations were submitted to the Command Staff, and the COO has gone over them. We now eagerly await the SOO, and then we can start handing out some medals. Unfortunately, there's a good number of people on the roster who have shown no activity whatsoever for well over a month now. These are all in danger of getting shipped off the the M/FRG Phoenix at the end of the month. There's always a reason you might be not so active, but if your Commander can't even get in touch with you because you don't reply to emails, then there's little else to be done.
Of course, it's unlikely that if you're one of these pilots, you'll be reading this, but we'll see what happens.
Speaking of competitions, I hope you liked Wake me up when November ends. Because you know I'm already planning the next big one. Depending on my time and availability, I'm looking at either May or june, but I'm awaiting the announcement of this year's Squadron Remobilization, I wouldn't want to run a big Challenge competition in parallel to that ...
Well, this is pretty much it for me. The month is still young, so plenty of chances for everyone to get active and earn yourself an ISM or better for January!
Last for this week: a warm 'welcome aboard' to SL Jax, fresh off the SSD Avenger. And congrats to SL Ein Bowman,
SL Morgoth and LT Ryan Hawkins on their promotion. May many more of them follow!

Dempsey's Weekly Screenshots
Every week, the report will have a screenshot. Not necessarily from a Star Wars movie. First Challenge pilot to send the correct answer to the mailing list wins.
Each victory earns you an IS-BR. Unless it's a 5th victory, you then get a IS-SR. Unless it's a 10th victory, which gives you an IS-GR!
Remember - your answer has to go to the list.
