Golden Spoon 2007: best TIE free mission of 2006, best technical realization of 2006

This is a puzzle mission which requires some unorthodox tactics.
Please play it on easy if you can't or don't want to figure it out.

Please don't use it in competitions unless you played it and know what you're doing

A good, well thought out mission that uses some interesting features of the game not normally seen in other missions. Be warned, this mission is not for the faint hearted and will take some serious thinking to get through. The tractor beam is very useful in this mission, if used in an unorthodox manner. Don't be afraid to call for help.

Whilst I have a lot of respect for Tempest and his work, the fact that the way to beat this mission is treated as a jealously guarded secret sucks a lot of the fun out of it for me.

I always say that any mission that gives you something new in this old game is fantastic. And this mission scores big time in that field! The humor in the briefings (and in some parts of the mission) is also first class. If you want a mission that will make you think, this is for you.

this one needs a 6 actually, me loved to play it over & over again ;) - and as old Wing II member/WC the Wing II references almost everywhere makes it even more fun to play

This is probably the most original mission that can be found in the compendium. Tempest managed to connect great idea with flawless execution and the result is this amazing piece of work. If you want to enjoy some remarkable experience while playing the good old TIE Fighter, this mission is exactly what you are looking for! Make more stuff like this, Temp :)

The only single mission (to date) from Tempest is just what anybody could expect from such a TIE Fighter expert: brilliant! The plot is very innovative, the mission timing is perfect, the technical aspects just outstanding. The idea of an hyperspace-torpedo was great. The difficulty can seem incredible having only a crappy GUN without any warheads to finish off so many foes, but if you play your cards VERY well, is not so difficult. Obtaining a score near to the creator's one... now THAT is difficult!! Difficult is also to figure out how to complete the mission on Hard and Normal with that "undestructible" beacon, but it can be done. It should be done to enjoy the most such an intelligent planned strategy. No less than a 5 for this little piece of jewelry!!

Very impressive. One of the best indeed. Reminded me of the good old TIE and XW missions where you had to think your way through a mission...congrats, Tempest!

This has the be the best TIE mission i have ever flown. Every aspect of this mission is unique and fun. Tempest on his first try has done what some mission creators have trying to do for years and make that perfect mission. Extremely Highly Recommended.

Description:

This mission is unconventional, with all its positive and negative implications. If you are looking for "just another mission", you might hate this one. I suggest that in that case, you skip this mission or play it on easy... where it is - almost - a "Defend the platform" mission as standard as they come.
You may like this mission, though, if you were waiting for a TIE scenario that doesn't "solve itself", but requires an idea from the player, and that also shows - by using some engine glitches - some effects which you might not have seen yet in that good old game.
This mission uses the difficulty slots. You will miss a good deal of the fun on "easy" though, please use it only if you can't beat it on the others.
I have tested this mission on TIE-Disk, TIE-CD, TIE95 and TIE95/EHSP.

Known issues: The picture on the galaxy map in the battle selection room will only look proper in TIE-CD and TIE Disk. The Windows version uses another, kinda poorer palette. The picture will appear at half size and in wrong colours. The picture can't be made to look good on all versions of TIE, so one has to live with that.

Many thanks to those who helped me with the testing: Brukhar, Conker, and especially Ninj.

Now good luck with my mission... I hope you'll enjoy it! ;-)
