Section 2: Responses

Chemical Response

The use of chemical weapons, such Lachrymatory agents (tear gas) and pepper spray in riot control is relatively common. Whereas within the Old Republic the use of such agents was widely frowned upon, they are the most effective way of causing mass disruption and thereby a solid part of the riot officer's arsenal.. The most modern skimmer mounted versions are capable of adding dye to mark rioters or adding tear gas to a watercannon for a more reliable dispersion. Most often they are deployed as hand-thrown grenade or specialist slugthrower rounds.

Vehicle/Mounted Support

In any combative pursuit, heavy supporting firepower can only accomplish so much. Often in major unrest, enforcers in armoured vehicles (such as LAVr QH-7 Chariot Command skimmers or a GPT-117 Troop Transport skiff) may be sent in following an initial subduing with firepower. These vehicles can run down fleeing groups, as well as delivering additional forces to an area or transporting arrested citizens. They may also mount watercannon or sonic projectors to assist in initial crowd disruption.

Occasionally, officers are supported by dog or other animal handlers, invariably any beast combining speed and tenacity with sharp teeth and claws, their purpose both to take down violent protesters, as well as act as a psychological deterrent...

As a less aggressive step, mounted officers may first be sent into the crowd. The might and height offered by the horse, or similar mount, are combined with its training, allowing an officer to more safely infiltrate a crowd. Often stun-batons or force pikes are the only weapons used. However, in a hunger riot in Hersaz, after the Governor enforced higher taxation, the rioters resisted the officers killed two of them, and afterwards butchered their mounts on the spot for their flesh.
