Fleet News
Not a whole lot has been going on in the fleet. A contest has been announced to design a new logo for the Emperor’s Hammer that does not use any existing LucasArts/Films symbols or logos (like the Imperial symbol). There’s a medal waiting for the lucky designer, as well as the envy and kudos of his peers. As always, check the TC News page (http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp) for the latest.

Wing News
We kicked some serious butt in Phase 2 of the BCR. Even though no one from Wing IX ended up in the top three, we still crushed the competition based on participation. One more to go!

We now have a ship doctor. Everybody, wave hello to the nice doctor who seems to be having trouble keeping his slightly soiled lab coat closed. It also seems that the coat is all he’s wearing. You should know him, or at least recognize his photo from the post office…;) Seriously, though, he’s Dagger Squadron’s own Dan Malaktos! [drum roll] For those of you who don’t know, the Fleet Medical Corps exists mostly to help pilots who are having problems in their current units. They can listen to your problems and help work them out. Although it’s rumored (malicious gossip, no doubt) that Major Malaktos volunteered for the assignment simply to get the key to the Relentless’ supply of medicinal rum. Either that or his well-known predilection for torturing Sub-Lieutenants.

And it appears that General Steve has risen from the woodpile in spite of the valiant efforts of a wood chipper. It just goes to show that you can’t keep an evil cricket bat down. Rumors abound of another attempt on Steve’s…uh…life and dark hints of a wood glue addition are also coming to light. Stay tuned for more details.

Squadron News
Although Phase 3 officially started on March 20, the number of the free mission specified for the competition wasn’t released until March 21. Everybody needs to fly FT100, even if you’ve flown it already. If you can’t fly, let me know ASAP. Hammer Squadron recently posted an outstanding walkthrough of this mission on the WingIX mailing list (home of the dreaded automailer that has so far survived our own LT Owen’s valiant attempts to slay it. If you missed the message, and want the walkthrough, let me know and I’ll send you a copy. Our record’s been perfect thus far. Let’s sweep this thing!

Aside from BCR news, the biggest announcement is the creation of the Spear Squadron Writers’ Guild. Most of you are signed up for this new mailing list, and if you’re not (and would like to be) let me know. I’m working on some guidelines for posting and the like, and will send them out via the writing mailing list when they’re ready.

On a sadder note, CM Darkfire has been required by RL difficulties to transfer to the Reserves. Join me in wishing him well, and hoping that he’ll be able to return to Spear soon. He did a fine job leading Flight 3 and will be missed.

With Darkfire’s transfer to the Reserves, we have an opening for a Flight 3 leader. If you’re a Lieutenant or above (which is the entire squadron), e-mail me if you’re interested in the position. Flight 3 deserves an active leader to follow in the big footsteps of CM Darkfire.

And it would have been nice if I would have seen one .tfr for TC152. Next time the flying assignment might just be mandatory….
