Omega Report # 0 (2003-08-31)

This report was submitted by GN Sasquatch

Greetings all, and welcome to this week's Omega Squadron report. Lots of news to go over this week, so let's dive right into it here ...

Squadron News
------------------------

- The Big News this week is that CPT Night Grue has retired into the TIE Corps Reserves. Grue is a great pilot, and I know we will all miss him. Grue's time has been stretched more and more thinly over the last few months, but he decided to hang in there until the end of the SSL -- and for that, we owe him our gratitude. Grue was also, by far, one of the most ... interesting ... pilots that it has ever been my pleasure to serve with. As long as I command Omega, Night Grue has an open invitation to return here should he decide to come out of retirement. And of course, he has been added to our Emeritus mailing list, so we will not lose touch with him.

- Grue's retirement has opened up the Flight Leader position in Flight 3. I already know who I want to put in this spot, so the position should be filled within the next few days.

- LC Todbringer has released detailed results of SSL 2003, here are the top ten individual pilots :

--TIE Division--
1. MAJ Artyis, Omega ................... 1,263,314
2. LC Todbringer, Omega .............. 1,244,976

3. LC Shae Kitane, Praetorian ........... 1,227,949
4. COL Ixion Deathbringer, Omega ...1,127,766
5. CPT Night Grue, Omega .............. 1,108,038
6. LC Brandon, Omega .................. 1,106,411

7. COL Andrzej Mezynski, Praetorian ..1,105,945
8. MAJ Tempest, Kappa ................... 1,102,734
9. GN Sasquatch, Omega ................ 1,082,224
10. COL Brian, Omega .................... 1,050,059

Doth mine eyes deceive me, or are seven of the top ten pilots from Omega Squadron? Excellent work by Artyis, Todbringer, Ixion, Grue, Brandon, and Brian !!!

--XWA Division--
1. CM Deimos, Vampire .................... 449,748
2. LC Gidda, Diamondback ................ 437,060
3. MAJ VinDoros, Vampire ................ 408,228
4. MAJ Artyis, Omega .................... 354,751
5. CM Kane Reese, Vampire .............. 335,142
6. CPT Derek Dan, Diamondback ....... 216,523
7. MAJ Mosh, Vampire ..................... 213,753
8. LC Brandon, Omega .................. 198,679
9. LC Philo, Yod ............................. 184,903
10. CPT Tvan'Oris, Diamondback .........162,521

An excellent job well done for Artyis and Brandon, for placing within the top 10 in the XWA Division as well!

- The awarding of medals is being greatly delayed due to the recent vacancy of the Ops position. All participating members of Omega Squadron will be receiving not one, but TWO Iron Stars with Platinum Wings for sweeping the TIE and XWA Divisions of the SSL. Also, winners of the Sov Caption contest can rest assured that you have not been forgotten. Lastly, I've had an ISM recommended for one of you for the last month, following my last MSE. All I can say is ... the medals are in the mail. No, really! ;-)

- LC Todbringer has disembarked on a very brief leave, but he should be returning shortly.

- More high scores to report this week! Great work by LC Brandon, who now holds the top score for FCHG-XWA # 3, as well as FREE-XWA #'s 6, 7, and 8. Brandon also reported a new mission high score for TC-TIE # 194. Excellent work!

- Brandon's also been a busy student this week, passing both IWATs courses for XvT Mission Creation!

Squadron Orders
-------------------------

- Not much! We're still in the post-SSL slow period, and I haven't heard anyone complain -- it's good to be able to take a breather. Still, we can't allow ourselves to get rusty. From the Sov Report, here are a few things that AD Proton has on the horizon for the ship :

The Sovereign Cup is coming! The fanatical men who brought you SSL 2003 will be back with a vengeance before you know it! This will be a TIE-based individual competition starting probably in September. It will be limited to 32 pilots, using an elimination format to determine the winners over several rounds. Stay tuned for details from LC Todbringer. If that isn't enough action for you, it appears we will be starting SSL 2004 in January! Keep your lasers hot for all this flying.

So ship-wide operations will resume in September, with an emphasis on individual participation this time around. And I still haven't ruled out a quickie internal squadron competition to tide us over.

Misc.
--------

- So as you can see, activity has really slacked-off lately (with the major exception of LC Brandon). That's to be expected with no big competitions going on at the moment. Enjoy the slow spell, we'll have plenty to do soon enough ...

- Grue's departure has opened up a THIRD empty spot that we need to fill, so look for another "New Blood" e-mail to be hitting your inboxes shortly.

- SWG Ground Operations : Hey, Proton has his in the Sov Report, so why shouldn't I have mine? I've been running Imperial missions lately, in my quest to gather faction points and put together a full suit of stormtrooper armor. It's time consuming, but rewarding. Unfortunately, Bestine is no longer as "pristine" as it once was. Ever since a recent update which made faction missions / rewards a little more realistic and obtainable, it seems that overt Rebs are crawling all over southern Tatooine, and they have ZERO honor. If it were possible to have negative honor, well that would be the Rebs on the Chilastra server. Just trust me on this one. And unfortunately, one of their favorite games is "Let's go out and raid Bestine, and generally make life difficult for as many Imperials as we possibly can". Which wouldn't be so bad, except that the player Imps in Bestine have developed this odd apathy toward the whole situation, and will not fight back. Which is doubly strange, when you consider the sheer AMOUNT of player Imps in Bestine. And yet ... player Rebs camp the Imperial missions and kill you on sight ... and player Imps destroy anything they see, regardless of who's mission it is, which leads to a lot of mission-stealing ... and all of this makes the accumulation of faction points next to impossible. The degradation of Bestine is so thoroughly complete that I have decided to pack up my house and move north.

Well, that's going to wrap us up for this week. Until next time, everyone ... fly high and watch your six!
