Omega Report # 0 (2003-09-08)

This report was submitted by GN Sasquatch

"Greetings Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Zur, and the evil Kodan Armada."

5 Brownie Points will go out to the first person who can tell me what movie this is from ;-)

Moving on ... it's time for this week's Omega Squadron report!

Squadron News
------------------------

- The big news this week is that LC Brandon has been advanced to the Flight Leader position for Flight 3. Congrats, Brandon! I know you will do a fine job. This was a big week for Brandon, as he gained a new position, set two high scores (FREE-XWA's # 11 and 15), and made it to Archon, with 1500 FCHG points!

- A note about FCHG points and ranks ... honestly, I don't scan the rosters to check on everyone's FCHG ranks very often. A few people have mentioned to me in the past that I seem to report FCHG milestones for some pilots, but not for others. Since I don't get any kind of automated update when you advance to a new FCHG rank, there are times when I'm honestly not aware of it. I know Brandon made Archon because he brought it to my attention; and since I like to brag on you guys in these reports, I encourage all of you to drop me a quick note if you've just made a new FCHG rank. Keep me informed, and I'll inform everyone else ;-)

- Commendations of Loyalty for the Fleet Commander's Birthday have been awarded (sort of) ... congratulations to GN Compton, the CoL recipient for Omega! I'm not sure if this is C's first CoL, or if his previous one vanished at about the same time that his former CoB did ... at any rate, he's got one now!
Although the winners of the CoL's have been announced (you should check TC.ORG for a complete list), the absence of an Ops means that the actual medals have not yet been awarded. Whoever becomes the new Ops is certainly going to have quite a backlog of medals to go through! Like all matters pertaining to medals lately, your continued patience is greatly appreciated. A new Ops should be appointed shortly.

- Big things on the horizon : be on the lookout for the Sovereign Cup, as well as the beginning of Imperial Storm IV, coming soon to an inbox near you.

Squadron Orders
-------------------------

- Several things to keep you busy, including the new Sovereign League Battle Creation Contest, designed to generate several 4 mission, PATCH-FREE battles for next year's running of the SSL. Great work by our SSL coordinators, who recognized that there simply are not enough 4 mission battles that don't require patches, and decided to do something about that. Here's more, as taken from TC.ORG :

Entrants must create a four-mission XWA battle, absolutely without patches, for use in the SSSD Sovereign League 2004.

The competition has four monthly rounds; each month, a "best battle" will be selected by the Sovereign League judges. The winner of each round will receive an IS-GR; runner-up, IS-SR; and third place, IS-BR.

The SSL judges desire to use high-quality XWA battles for the SSL 2004. XWA creators will construct one or more four-mission battles (no less or more than four missions); absolutely no patches are to be used with the battles. Top battles will be judged by the SSL staff, then sent off to the TAC office. The TAC has agreed to accelerate testing and confirmation of the winning battles so they will be available in the compendium in time for the start of the SSL 2004 in January. Medals awarded for this contest will be separate from any TAC-awarded mission creation awards.

- The Tactical Office is running a rather large graphics and fiction competition. Unfortunately, it ends on September 12th, which doesn't give you much time ... blame your CMDR for letting this one slip by him. Still, if you're interested, you should check out the competition website for details : http://www.emperorshammer.ca/comps_apostasy.html

Misc.
---------

- Well, once again, Brandon pretty much showed us all up on activity this week. Taking a break is one thing, but enough is enough. I vow to fly AT LEAST a free mission sometime this week, and I encourage all of you to do the same. Let's not get rusty ;-)

- SWG Planetary Operations : While I'm still accumulating faction points and trying to get a full suit of Stormie Armor, this week I built a new house in a nice little valley close to Mos Espa, and officially moved away from Bestine. It was difficult making the move, as I had to make several trips to get all my junk from my old house to my new house ... but it was worth it. I'm very happy with the new location, as I haven't seen any overt Rebs within MILES of my house. That was the trouble with Bestine ... it's ruled by the Rebs these days, and even a simple trip from home to the town could become deadly.
And I've already got a new neighbor! Proton liked the location that I found so much that he moved his house right next to mine. Like I told him ... there goes the neighborhood ;-)

Well, that's going to wrap it up for this week. So as always ... fly high and watch your six!
