"The quiet hum of the holoprojector whirled to life, casting an azure glow over the speaking Squadron Commander. 'Greetings pilots. Look lively. Now, onto the briefing...'"

Squadron News

First off, I, CM Serin Jansj have been appointed Squadron Commander. I will do my best to serve you well.

I hope everyone had a good week. There wasn't a great deal of activity in the past week, but there'll always be time to recoup that. I'd particularly like to see us start flying more, and I'm going to try to implement some new ideas soon to give some incentive. I'm starting a "Weekly Activity" that might help us to coordinate our efforts. More information below.

There have been several roster changes: One pilot has transferred away from Beta: LCM Firzam Coldsteel. He's now a CM, serving as Squadron Commander for Epsilon. CM Max is transferring to Thunder Squadron, pending completion of the procedure. Finally, our old Squadron Commander, CM Conker Blackwood, has rejoined us. Best wishes to all involved. Also, on a side note, CM Conker's ascended to Quaestor of House Dominatus in Alvaak in the DB! Congratulations. Drinks on you, old man. :)

Our website, Beta Echelon, has been heavily updated this week, to account for new squadron regulations, a new officer dossier, new communiques, and other additions. Also, as my first project as CMDR, I'm going to heavily update the History / Canon section of the site to have a great new amount of content. If you're interested in writing content for the section, get in touch. Remember also that if you have any submissions for the site, be it a graphic, poem, or otherwise, just send it to me and I'll get it up.

Additionally, I'm going to try to release a new Commander Communique each week, hopefully packed with information related to current events, competitions we might run, and more. I'd like it to be a complementary piece to the usual weekly report, a more personal one focused directly at squadron members. I'll try to release most of my ideas and decisions there.

I was also thinking about revising the mottos, establishing a mascot, etc. :P These are abstract thoughts, though, and I'd like your input before I do anything. Let me know, please.

Finally, on a different side, J'Lek Arcanos has been spotted in some of the more rundown hangar bays, planning something as yet unknown. Serin Jansj currently resides in a bacta tank from exertion caused from sitting over a keyboard for extended periods of time. Conker Blackwood has been assigned to latrine cleaning duties for slander against his CMDR. After a nasty incident involving telekenesis and the office of the CMDR, he has been assigned a ysalamari and a wooden spoon. :P More on this as it becomes available.

Weekly Activity

This week, I'd like to propose for the squadron to fly a single free mission: TIE-FREE Battle #149 - Patrol of Somewhere. You can find it in the Mission Compendium. It's only a few minutes of time, and I think we can do it. (thanks to J'Lek for the recommendation and ideas here).

Otherwise, have a good week. That's not a recommendation. That's an order. :)

General Directives

  • Always try to keep in touch with your CMDR. Let me know you're active by email, contact on AIM, or IRC. I'm here to help.

  • Fly if possible, even if it's only a free mission here and there. Let's keep our skills honed for possible future challenges.

  • Try to do the weekly activity if possible. Check the weekly report for details.

  • Try to get on AOL Instant Messenger, IRC, the Message Boards, or the Beta Squadron email list when you can. Let's get to know each other.

  • Try to be active in some way. Even if you can't fly at the moment, you can take an IWATs course, write a piece of fiction or poetry for the website, create a graphic, write an INPR or touch one up, or contribute to the squadron in some other way.

  • Try to visit the squadron website now and then. You can find current competition listings, the current roster, squadron news, archived reports, communiques, and much more there.

  • If you can, try to recruit some new members into the squadron. Even if they don't want to come to Wing I or Beta, you can always offer a helping hand to a new pilot on Daedalus.

  • Remember that wherever you go, there you are. The Force is strong with Beta.

    Bad Pun of the Week

Two boll weevils grew up in South Carolina. One went to Hollywood and became a famous actor. The other stayed behind in the cotton fields and never amounted to much. The second one, naturally, became known as the lesser of two weevils.

    The Last Word

Well, it's been a good week overall, I think. I'd like to hear more from you guys in the future, and hopefully get to know you a little better. I think we really need more cohesiveness as a squadron, especially with things being as they are in terms of membership. Please try to participate in the Weekly Activity if possible. Also, it would mean a lot to me if you could tell if you like the new report layout. :)

For this week, however, it's your commander signing out.

"But your city lies in dust, my friend."

    Sincerely,
    Serin "Yakman" Jansj
