Theta Squadron Report #2 |

Date Submitted: June 29, 2022 CC: TIE Corps Fleet Commander, Vapen "Doc" Vanman was actually nervous. He had just developed a working relationship with the Rho mechanic, Nix, not too long before the transfer to Theta. Now he had to go to Theta Squadron Mechanic, Loren, who he knew very little about besides what GN Pete Mitchell had told him: she was an Ugnaught who had volunteered years ago. Doc had only been with Theta for a month now and needed to check in with the mechanic about preparation for Squadron Remobilization as well as another serious matter. As the Commander walked into the hangar, he took a look around. 10 of the squadrons defenders where stowed away, and one sat on the hangar deck, presumably being worked on. But that still left one that was nowhere to be seen. Doc started to walk toward the TIE Defender on the hangar floor, still figuring out how he was going to tell Loren what had happened. As he approached, the Commander spotted a pair of boots sticking out from under one of the wings. "Excuse me, ma'am," Doc lead. Even though he was the commanding officer, he found leading with respect helped with first impresssions. "You're excused, sir," the boots replied jokingly, as the mechanic pushed herself out from under the TIE. "I wanted to come introduce myself, I'm Doc, Theta's new Squadron Commander." he began, "Tell me, how did you end up here?" "Nice to meet you Commander, I'm Loren. Been with Theta for almost 10 years now." the mechanic said, -"My parents retired to the floating cities in Frigg (built by Ugnaughts if you didn't know). When I was old enough, I signed up to the Empire, always loved tinkering." "Well it seems that I am in good hands! I also wanted to make sure all the TIE's were ready for Remob," the Commander continued. "Now that you mention it, I was just finishing up with this one. Also have to give Theta 15 a lookover before we let LT TheFlyingMJ go out for her first mission." the mechanic paused, "I can't help but notice there are only 15 of the 16 Defenders in the hangar... I have Theta 16 stored, but I... Theta 1 is missing. Would you know anything about that, Commander." Loren almost seemed nervous, which put Doc at ease because he was just as nervous, "So I landed my Defender in Rho's hangar because I didn't want my first impression to be showing you Theta 1. I was out practicing manuvers, and I'm not used to having a wing above my head, and may have sheared it off on an asteriod. I'm honestly lucky I got it back to any hangar." Doc explained. He had chosen Rho's hangar because it was the ventral hangar with a larger opening than Theta's lateral, slightly smaller opening, hangar mouth. "Well, frikk, that's not gonna buff out," the mechanic replied, "After I finish with these two, I'll go down to Rho and see if Nix will give me a hand fixing her up. It's gonna take a while. You might want to use Theta 16 until we get it all fixed up." "Thanks, Loren. I appreciate it," Doc replied, "And here, take this to Nix, it should ease some of the moaning about having to fix my figher again." Doc handed over a bottle of Chalquilla to Loren. "This will definitely help," Loren replied sarcastically, rolling her eyes, as she cracked the bottle and took a swig, handing it back to the commander. "I aim to please," Doc replied, equally sarcastically, taking a swig and returning the bottle before parting ways with the mechanic. |

In personal news, I have been not nearly as active as I normally was or wish to be, but unfortunately it was unavoidable. About two months ago I was in a car wreck, nothing serious injury wise, but long story short, just found out the car is totalled and dealing with all this has been very time and energy consuming for me. As I write this, the car I just got is having some maintence done, but when I get it back, maybe my life will get back to some kind of normal. Having said all that, I will be on Squadrons and Battlefront more regularly soon, usually Monday, Wednesday, and Friday/Saturday/Sunday are good for me. Feel free to join me if you see me in a VC on Discord or message the squadron when you hop on! Fleet News Squadron Remobilization has begun! This is an event geared toward getting the squadron to fly together. It also gives me a chance to evaluate the battle readiness of the squadron (read: what games you like to fly, game modes, etc). This will allow me to make competitions that the squadron will enjoy, but also help to build the squadron moral! Squadron News We have a small roster change, CPT SL8c8, FL for Flight 3, has decided to step down to the reserves. I wish him well and hope to see him back in the cockpit one day. In his place, a veteran returning from the reserves, COL Wolfverine will be taking his place. If you seem him in the Cantina, buy him a drink and make him feel welcome! A huge shoutout is owed to many Theta Squadron members for their effort in IS4. There were many Legions submitted by Theta pilots, and a shoutout to LT Sitka, LT Speeedoflight, LT Beach89, and LT WhatsUpDock for showing the Hammer AND Challenge what-for in SWS Dogfights. We just concluded the Theta Top Gun Competition with LT What'sUpDock being crowned the winner! Congragulations, Lieutenant! I have a few ideas rolling around for our next comp, but also toying with the idea of taking the Top Gun Competition Warrior-wide. If you have thoughts on this, please reach out! |

Follow-up from last month. We may have some outside interested in the Flight 4 FL spot, so if anyone in the squadron is interested, reach out now before it is too late. Also, as Theta does not have an Executive Officer (XO), I will also be looking for an XO. The XO and be an FL or FM, and in and of itself, the role does not have too many responsibilities. The two main purposes of the XO, in my view, is to be a second-in-command morale and activity-wise, as well as being the acting CMDR if I am gone (vacation, personal stuff, etc.) If anyone is interested, please reach out to me on Discord DMs or email.
