TCCOM REPORT #35

REPORTING OFFICER: High Admiral Plif, TIE Corps Commander
DATE SUBMITTED: 8 Aug 21
ACTIVE DUTY ROSTER COUNT: 166 (+6) Including 3 NPCs

NEWS

The roster is up by six since last time, mostly the result of some impressive recruiting by LCM TheBlackxRanger and LT XCptCronchX. Their efforts have resulted in our newest squadron, Delta, being full with 12 pilots only about a month after it opened. Well done!

Like VA Silwar Naiilo with the Challenge reports, I've recoded my reports to play nicer with Gmail's full inversion implementation of dark mode. Rather than an inconsistent experience based on whichever email client the report's being read in, the new code is much simpler and lets the email client do whatever it's going to do without any unintended consequences.

Raise the Flag is on its way, but probably not beginning until October 1st. With Imperial Storm continuing and featuring a strong spam flying component, we've made the decision to have some downtime between the two events.

Regarding Star Wars: The Old Republic, I talked about it with the TCCS and we're in agreement that this game feels like a much better fit for the EHDB or even its own subgroup. The MMO format doesn't immediately lend itself to our award system because it doesn't share a lot of similarities with the other games we play. With that in mind, we currently have no plans to support SWTOR here in the TIE Corps.

Reminder: If you reply to a message on the mailing list, that reply goes to over 200 people. Please consider whether all 200 of those people need to see your reply before you hit Send. If you could accomplish the same goal by sending a separate email just to the person you're replying to, we'd appreciate it. In pursuit of a long-term solution, I've proposed making the default reply behavior on the mailing list such that replies only go to the message's sender as opposed to the whole list. If this change is made, you'd still be able to reply to messages in a way that goes to the whole list but you'd have to manually enter the list's email address to do it. I like this solution because it makes sure that members that are writing replies are sending them to the whole list on purpose as opposed to 'accidental' replies to the list that were intended for the sender alone. If you don't like the idea of this change, please email me or DM me in Discord to tell me why. Note that if your reply is sent to the whole mailing list you'll actually be proving my point. ;)

TITLE HOLDERS

The Raise the Flag event each year confers three titles to recognize the top ship, squadron, and individual pilot from the competition. These are the current holders of those titles.

TIE Corps Flagship: ISDII Warrior

TCCOM's Escort Squadron: Rho

TCCOM's Wingman: GN Pickled Yoda

TCCOM'S COMPETITIONS

TIE Corps in Battle wrapped up its third season recently. Its fourth season will begin after Raise the Flag after a decision to split up the Corps-level competitions to avoid too much overlap of similar activities.

SP Ace of the TIE Corps is awarding the top three pilots on the SP Kill Board each month.

MP Ace of the TIE Corps is now awarding the top three pilots on the Multiplayer Kill Board for all the games other than Star Wars Squadrons, which has its own similar competition.

COOP Ace of the TIE Corps is awarding the top three pilots on the Multiplayer Coop Kill Board each month.

The Trivia Grand Tour ended its sixth season and is in now its seventh season. Updates are going out to the mailing list separately and also #competitions on Discord.

  • Learning to be a responsible database code collaborator from the IO, FA Turtle Jerrar (thanks!)
  • Holding CMDR+ meetings every two weeks
  • Moving pilots from the Reserves to AWOL status when messages from the Captain of the Phoenix, MAJ Sparky, result in a bounce

PENDING:

  • Feedback process for Imperial Storm 3 once that's complete
  • Rework of the initial join email... again
  • Getting the TCCOMA set up to ping cadets that haven’t completed training yet
  • Realignment for #hangar-chat and #pickup-games
  • The Commodore Volume 7
    • Thinking about a reformat for this, both to make it easier to compile and easier to read on devices other than computers
  • Competition resource - what we've done before to serve as a pool of ideas for what we can do next
  • Taking TM/3 (someday)
