Combat Operations Office
Report #1 - 10.19.01
Rear Admiral Brucmack
Salute!
There are a number
of things to cover this week :)
1. Week of
War is on!
The X-Wing
vs. TIE Fighter week of war has started. Participation has been poor the
past few WoWs, so I am hoping that more will make an effort to attend this
time. I was in contact with the flag officers of the ASF earlier this
week, encouraging them especially to help and encourage their members to take
part. However, it's not just the ASF that should be involved... there are
many other multiplayer pilots in primarily single player wings that should be
encouraged and rewarded for activity. It is the premier multiplayer event
in the Star Wars flight sim community, and it is important that we take
part.
Here are some step-by-step instructions to signing up and taking part in WoWs:
1. http://www.battlestats.com/players/add/
2. follow instructions and request to be added to the EH
3. wait for me to approve your entrace into the EH club (no more than one day)
4. Visit the war site at http://www.battlestats.com/games/xvt/war/info/index.php4?wow235 (note that this is just the address for the current war, it will change next war. The address for the war site will always be listed on the Combat Center WoW entry on the Combat Calendar)
5. Read the rules section. This is very important :)
6. Read the instructions for reporting matches found here http://www.battlestats.com/help/?21
7. Play, and good luck!
Along with
WoW announcements, last month's X-Wing Alliance WoW was archived today.
(In other words, the dispute clearing phase was passed and the results are now
final). Here is a summary of EH activity:
Wing X: 1
game played (1-0-0), 1 player participating
Wing XIII:
50 games played (49-1-0), 1 player participating
Wing XV: 6
games played (2-2-2), 1 player participating
Avenger
Elite: 5 games played (0-5-0), 1 player participating
Total: 62 games played (52-8-2), 4 players
participating
Overall EH Standing: 12th Place of 25 ranked
clubs
Though our
place was alright, this was only because our win statistics were good, not
because of a large amount of activity. We could certainly surpass this
mark if we could get 20 people flying and at least 100 games. The last
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter WoW has not yet been archived. Both wars were
delayed in being archived because of a large outbreak of cheating, but hopefully
things will be smoother during the wars this month.
2.
Shifting of the Sunday Competitions
Last weekend
two things came to my attention. First, that the Vanguard Shield Comp was
going to be cancelled under the former COO, and second that the Zone Sunday comp
is really not worth running anymore. However, the Vanguard Shield Comp got
a decent turnout after a short while, so it will not be cancelled. Zone
Sunday has been merged with it however, and the competition is now scheduled to
run from 12:00 PM EST to 3:00 PM EST. The permanent host is Darkmage, the
former Zone Sunday permanent host. However, an alternate host is
needed. Send in applications to brucmack@yahoo.com, CCing Kyle.Katarn@ehnet.org. Information
about being a comp host is available in the Combat Operations Manual, available
at www.ehcoc.net.
3.
Jedi Knight Fest!
The Vast
Empire is holding a Jedi Knight fest this Sunday (October 21st). It is a
fun event, not a serious competition, so anyone is invited to play. It
will be held in #jediknightnight on irc.holonet.org. I believe that
address is an InnerNET address, so you can probably find the comp through other
InnerNET servers as well. You may remember the Vast Empire from the Outer
Rim night, though they seldomly had a strong showing of participants :) I
am not sure exactly what clubs will be in attendance, but since it is in the
name of fun there shouldn't be any issues with rules,
etc.
4.
What's in store?
I have
gotten quite a few people's inputs on where they want the COO to go in the
future, so I thought it would be good to share these in my
report.
First off,
training. This is a very important thing that has been practically ignored
for a long time on an EH-scale. Smaller units have had some success
setting up MP academies, but it will be much better to get a formal system up
and running. One thing that will be involved in this is a Combat Training
Manual, which should give pilots enough of a basis to improve greatly.
Actual training with an instruction will likely come
later.
Along with
this comes the question of focus as far as types of matches are concerned.
Historically, the EH has focused on 1v1 matches. However, this doesn't
have to continue. There are quite a few pilots who I have seen do well in
2v2 flight in WoWs, so there is no reason we can't train in that as well.
Watch for promotion of 2v2 competition in the near
future.
Now, one
issue that has plagued the COO for a while is the issue of Jedi Knight. It
is something that isn't a very large part of the TC, but is important in other
subgroups, especially the DB, and I know it is important that the COO become
involved in promoting this platform. In addition to this, JK2 is on the
horizon, and we want to at least have some sort of organization in place before
that comes about :) Look for some JK-related announcements in the
future.
And now, I
unveil a weekly segment of the COO report... Pilot of the Week! This will
be a spotlight on a pilot that I believe stood out during the weekly comps as a
fierce competitor. I'll try to vary it from week to week, as long as
nobody steals the show every night :P
Pilot of the Week: LCM
Blackhawk
Blackhawk
brought home a DFC and 6 wins over 3 comps this week. Good
work!
Happy
hunting!
