Wing XV Report # 0 (2000-11-28)

This report was submitted by LC Ender mBind

"Space, The Outer Rim. These are the reports of the Imperator Class II Star Destroyer Vanguard... Its continuing mission to suppress strange alien worlds. To wipe out alien life and rebellious populations. To boldly leave dirty laundry where no man has even seen cheese before!"

no story i'm afraid... i experienced a crash and lost everything... i wanted to get this out by today so... better luck next time i guess:(

there will be a story in next week's report, you can read the python ViB story over on http://vib.ehnet.org tomorrow
note: more ViB fiction at the end of the report!

<salute>

Well, sorry 'bout being late but there's so much happening that I kinda lost track of time.. but here at last is this week's Wing XV report:)

1.
Wooo hoo! Great activity over the last week guys, you make me a proud Wing Commander:)
Ofcourse I haven't been WC long, but I haven't seen so many missions, graphics, fiction, trivia questions etc. etc. submitted at the same time... and from about all of you too! Outstanding mission flying performances by especially LT. Pavz, CM Hawk, LC DS-61-4, LCM IceMan and CPT CTXclr - who all scored over or around 30 points in the ASF:SCII already (Pavz and Hawk way over 100 even!).

2.
We've decided that the new CMDR of Python Squadron, Wing XV will be CM Fraggle Hawk from Avenger Squadron. Of the applicants he was the most qualified and we believe he'll be a great new asset to our Wing. He's a very active member and good MPer which we believe are qualities needed in the wing, but he's also communicative, an experienced EH member and is online frequently and such - which are the qualities needed in Python and the wing. Up to now he has already shown an amazing amount of activity and I'm glad to say so has the rest of Python. Congrats Hawkie, welcome onboard.

Besides Hawk, CPT jdf1984 also joined the Wing this week, deciding he definitely wanted to be in the ASF again. Welcome Captain, glad to have you onboard too. With these two new additions to the wing, we're definitely on the way up again... currently at 40 even, things are looking good so to say:)

3
For those who might not have noticed: The ASF: Supremacy Competition II is running!! The competition page is at http://asf.ehnet.org and contains all the information you need to take part. This is a big competition and it was a huge success last time, only with the GW snatching away the prices before our noses - and it seems like they're at it again! Still I believe we can get very far in this with our activity at the moment way up already:)

SUBMISSION DETAILS: All submissions (with the exceptions noted below), must be sent to:

spellfire@btinternet.com

You must have 'ASF:SCII' in the subject of the email, and zip the submissions when needed. You must include your FULL ID Line, and a brief desc. of what you're submitting.

Failure to abide by these rules will result in the submission being deleted.

BSF approved confirmations, notifications of LoCs awarded, FCHG/CR advancements and Citations earned do NOT need to be sent in. These will be handled by your Flag Officers for you.

AWARDS: Medals will be awarded at the conclusion of the competition, and will be based on the number of points an individual has achieved. The top three scoring pilots will receive a set medal:

1ST Place: Silver Star of the Empire
2ND Place: Bronze Star of the Empire
3RD Place: Bronze Star of the Empire

The winning ship will be granted the title of "ASF Flagship" (currently held by the Gray Wolf) and the winning Squadron will be awarded the title of ASF Escort Squadron" (currently held by Vortex Squadron). Members of the winning Squadron will also be awarded with the Palpatine's Crescent.

NOTE: The number and types of medals awarded will depend purely on the participant numbers. More pilots will equal more awards!!

As you see: big prices to be won by everyone - and just by general participation, you fly a match, make graphics or whatever in an other comp, or even just for fun, and you, your squadron and the ship gain points for that. The most active Ship goes off with most of the prices. Look below (competitions) for current standings and points.

Important: You gain points by FCHG promotions and citations too... but i need to know that you just promoted or got your new citation. Pilots, please email me when you go up a FCHG rank, CMDRs, do the same for your citations. This way we can be sure everybody gets all the points they can get.

4.
I filled out the form to register #Vanguard on saturday, with a bit of luck we'll have our own channel registered soon.

The channel is doing well as well, with a good show up of Vanguard Pilots... I might even say that practically all CMDRs hang around there (and me) which makes it a good place to go if you have a question about your squadron or the wing. Ace Armageddon has been so good to supply us with a bot, VanBot - thanx Ace:) Since we've arranged with VA Matir to get us a replacement bot with more options (like competition hosting etc.) but that might take another week or two. If anyone comes up with a better/good name for the bot, I'll reward it with an ISM:)

I'd appreciate it if you all idle or chat in #Vanguard when you're online anyway... for the following 2 weeks at least so that when the channel registration ppl come by they see it's being used and such. For registering a channel you need about 10 ppl frequenting your channel for about two weeks so when the channel ppl come by they'll see some traffic. Until registration everyone gets ops, after that Vanguard Flag Officers, CMDRs and the VAN COM's Protector.... plus every TC admiral that might wonder allong ofcourse...

Our second Wing meeting on #Vanguard, on the Undernet (IRC), on Saturday the 25th of November just after the EH meeting was another dud I must say:). But I'm hard headed and will just go on hanging around #Vanguard... If you need to talk with me you know where I'll be. A few other vanguard and even non vanguard pilots hang around there now too, so it might even be fun to do so too - over the past days it has been busier then the ASF channel at times:)

Additional for if you do not know what IRC is: IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat and it's a protocol specially for chatting. Easiest way to get on IRC is to go to http://www.mirc.com and download mIRC free. The Emperor's Hammer is based on the Undernet servers, but if you need any more help setting up, don't hesitate to call in help from either your squad mates or me.

5.
We still need a new motto and title!
Any good suggestions for either will be rewarded with an ISM, for both a PC... As an idea I'd like to add that a motto should be seen as a battlecry... I prefer  short and brutal over long and intelligent i'm afraid. No-one runs into battle screaming something like "Why fly like the Gray Wolf when you can sit around looking good?".
This new title and motto I'll keep as our main motto for at least a year, or at least as long as I can keep my current position if that's shorter.;)

Fleet News:

General TC News:
- Admiral Sarriss has resigned as Flight Officer:
"Greetings loyal Imperials...
I stand before you today to announce my resignation. As you all recall, my recent time on leave was spent in the medical wards. It is for this reason that I am stepping down, as with the increasing time I have to spend in bacta tanks, I no longer have the time to dedicate in service to this wonderful Fleet and it's cause in my current capacity as FO. I thank you all for the opportunity to serve, and would like you to welcome your new FO, Vice-Admiral Theodore... I trust you will all give him your support."
- I'd like to congratulate our new Flight Officer Theodore, and wish him good luck.
- Sometimes it's difficult to go through the Battle Listings on slower modems. Now from the Battle Center, you can jump directly to a battle's profile if you already know the battle type and battle number. http://www.tiecorps.org/battles/battletypes.asp
- To help recruiters help members on Daedalus, a new [W] flag has been added for cadets on the Platform Daedalus Roster who already filled out the Squadron Assignment Request Form and is simply waiting for the Flight Office to assign him or her to a squadron. The best Cadets to try to recruit are those with the [P] and [I] flags (or just the [I] flag for Echo Company) because all they need to do is log in to tiecorps.org with their PIN and Password and fill out the form. Do not recruit [W] cadets.
- Admiral Turtle has been declared AWOL. Let us all welcome the new Internet Officer, Admiral AbsoluteK. You can view the updated Internet Office site and read a few new updates and vote on who your favorite EH CO is.
- Absolutek is going to lose his own server capabilities... which ill have consequences for everyone with a ehnet.org or squadron.org etc. account. Check on www.absolutek.com site for details.

Wing News:

General Wing News:
- CM Fraggle Hawk is the new CMDR of Python, congratulations:)
- Please welcome CPT jdf1984, who has transferred back into the ASF, getting us back up to 40 again! :)
- Vanguard interactive Battle is postponed till next weekend again... but this time it'll really be the last time, i promise;)

Description: “The long awaited Second ASF:Supremacy Competition is here! The first Supremacy competition began on 17th April, and ran for six weeks, ending on 28th May. Up for grabs were the titles of ASF Flagship and ASF Escort Squadron. The six weeks saw an amazing amount of activity for all pilots. Thousands of missions were flown and scores of graphics, fiction and INPRs were submitted. At the end of the competition, well over a hundred merit medals had been awarded to the various participants. The competition had proven to be a success, and shown that the ASF was capable of amazing achievements. This Competition runs just the same way, with a slight change in the awarding of points.”
Additional: Go to the site and check it out, besides that it looks good it also has a lot of info on how to get all the rewards on offer here. Participants: The whole Aggressor Strike Fleet
Description: “All three wings will encourage as many of their pilots as they can to participate in the November XWA and XvT WoWs.
At the conclusion of the WoW, the wing that has the highest overall pilot score would be the winner. And will gain the right to modify the title and motto of the losing wing. At the end of the XvT WoW the wing ranking in points within the EH will be determined. For first place a wing gets 1 point, 2 for second, 3 for third place. The same is then done after the XWA wow. Both scores are added to each other and the ship with the lowest amount of points is the overall winner.
For the top 3 _rated_ scoring pilots on any of the three wing in both games there will be medals to be gained. (10 games min to get a rating)” I'll make the top scoring squadron Wing's Own for December and VA Blade made last  two top scoring pilots COM's Protector - he might do that again."
CURRENT STATUS: the XWA wow has started! Go to the URL above to see specifics.  Remember that you fly for the club EH and not for the Vanguard. In wow’s you can't fly vs. other EH members – so don't start flying vs WingXIII or WingXIV members, they can be your wing men. Note: you need to be signed up with BSC and with the EH on there to participate.

Vanguard Interactive Battle (postponed again)
Starts: Sun December 3rd 2000 (another week onwards)
Ends: hopefully never, but every 3 weeks (=turn) medals and other scores will be awarded
URL: http://vib.ehnet.org
Participants: All pilots onboard the Vanguard.
Description: “The Wing XV Commander will add a piece of a story to his wing reports, together with a XWA Mission based on that part of the story. Participating Pilots in the wing send in their pilot files of that mission to their CMDRs - including a short written fictional account of their experiences in the mission. The CMDRs check the pilot files, forward the scores, the reports and their own files to the Commodore and Wing Commander and include the best fiction of their squadron in their weekly reports. The best fiction in the wing will be taken up in the wing report, arranged into "propaganda"-type news coverage. Medals are awarded to the best flying and to the best writing but also to outstanding activity like helping to run this competition.
Flying and fiction both influence the story, and so the missions: the Pilots' performance in one mission has consequences on the next mission they'll fly. Making this a true Interactive Battle with a flexible story line, centered around the ISD Vanguard and it's Squadrons.”
CURRENT STATUS:  Delayed. The web site and Rules are up though. Go to the URL above to check them out. I suggest you read the rules through now so if you have any suggestions, comments or questions, they can still be solved before the "competition" starts.
I tried to get the first mission fixed by today but failed because i got lost making CattleGroups XvT missions *grin*. But CM RogueWing and MAJ Domm have joined the team on mission creation and with their help we hope to get it on the tracks for real now:)

Wing Squadron Fiction:

Python ViB Chapter One .
written by: CM Fraggle Hawk (fraggle.hawk@freeuk.com)

Space suddenly exploded around his eyes, stars and darkness space filling the view port. Hyperspace travel had always unnerved even when he was a cadet but at least he could hide it now. As the shuttle sank starboard the view port became full of ships and the mass hulk of steel which is the Pyrath Naval base: ‘Not the most beautiful place but it does a fine job’.

The shuttle rocked and shaked when, with a sudden jerk, it came to a stop. “Where did this pilot get his licence NR,” Hawk thought, grabbing his gear he exited the shuttle. Looking around the hanger he scanned it for things to avoid but it was just full of troubled freighter pilots shouting over cargo aliens and humans going about there business, rusty transports gleaming shuttles everything you could think off.

Walking from the shuttle he came up to customs. Looking down at the Imperial officer, he quickly flashed his eyes towards the two storm troopers standing guard: “Excuse me, Im Commander Hawk, I was told to meet a Major Mindb_ender here, any chance you could help me?”
The storm trooper took him by the arm: “This way Sir, just a hint don’t call him Mindb_ender he hates getting noticed by the ladies.”
Hawk looked at the trooper and laughed.

After a short walk the came to a dark walkway “Hey, you’re not going to mug me are you, Trooper?’
The trooper looked round worried, “no Sir, of course not”.
Then from the darkness a higher-ranking officer came into the light. “Trooper you can go now and leave me and Hawkie alone”
The Trooper turned and saluted.
Hawk looked at his old time ship buddy, “Lieutenant Colonel now are we and a wing commandeer. I see you made a name for you’re self since Krayt.”
Bender embraced him, “Long time no see Hawk, you haven’t done badly yourself: An ex elite, a Squadron of your own, which I’m happy to say is on my watch. Ok lets talk and walk’.

As the two walked through the station a station filled with women, crews, cargo and of course casinos and cafes, Bender turned to Hawk looking happy but at the same time worried. “Hawk, Python is up and running for you and I’ve got some of best Squads in the fleet, but we got a problem: I’ve got word that a small Rebel squad working within the station… I don’t have to tell you how bad things could get.”
Hawk looked back and wiped his face: “Well things like that happen in a time of war Bender but whets it got to do with me?”
Bender smiled back and leaned against a bulkhead, “Well I know Avengers did a few Covert Ops, So I want you to lead up a small team from Vanguard crew to attack them on their own level.”
Hawk smashed his fist on the wall turning a few heads, “Bender I signed up to be a pilot not a dam Intel bunny, but if I must…”
Bender lead him to hanger, “We’ve got the Vanguard waiting for us and you got to pick a team, but once again im happy to have you aboard.”
As the two stepped aboard the Shuttle they smiled and Hawk thought to himself: “This is going to be fun.”
