Beta Squadron
Beta Squadron Report #11

Saturday, April 26th, 2005

"The meeting chamber fell to an abrupt darkness as the last drunken stragglers of the unit made their belated way into the crowded enclosure. Some of the pilots adjusted in their seats, weary from the routine of an officer. Others cast fleeting glances upon their surroundings, prepared for the vagaries of another rambling announcement. All maintained a facade of restraint and discipline. The quiet hum of the holoprojector whirled to life, casting an azure glow over the speaking Squadron Commander. 'Greetings pilots," he spoke, his voice registering a familiar squadron pride, "Look lively, and stoic. Now, onto the briefing...'"

Squadron News

Greetings, pilots.

I come before you in this last week bearing portentous news. As of this day, Monday, the 25th day of April, 2005, I am resigning from my position as squadron commander of Beta. My reasons for this are legion, but perhaps the most eloquent distillation I can afford you is that I simply do not have the time necessary to fully perform my duties, and, perhaps more seriously, I simply do not have the enthusiasm anymore.

With college lingering only so far on the horizon, I am pressed for the same time I once devoted fully to my job. Additionally, I simply do not see what I once saw in the Emperor's Hammer. That is not an indictment in any way of the organization -- certainly I have have many wonderful experiences here, and Beta was one of the fondest times I've ever had -- but simply the clearest explanation I can give. When I rose to the position of Commander, I promised myself I would resign rather than find myself derelict in my duty. Sadly, but inevitably, the time has come to honor that commitment.

In some ways, however, I laugh at the thought of sadness at this decision. What is steel compared to the hand that wields it? You, the Stoic Yaks, are the driving force of Beta, not I. Ultimately, this will be best for you all. My time at the helm of Beta must end, and it must be filled with the spirit and dedication of someone else. In my departure, I have no doubt you will flourish under another, and, in time, ascend far beyond where I might have taken you.

That said, I will soon transfer to the Reserves, and in doing so I will also leave the Emperor's Hammer in all capacities and subgroups. As a final act, I have updated Beta Echelon for one last time, bringing all the information within up to date. I will be unable to assist Beta in any way after this announcement, but I will always be here should you wish to talk to me, or conclude any final issues or projects. Before I depart from the Sovereign for the last time, I would like to address you all personally, on an individual level.

To Conker Blackwood, I'd like to thank you for your years of blunt honesty, friendship, and tolerance. We are day and night, but we saw eye to eye with astonishing clarity on the issues and projects of the Emperor's Hammer. Stay true to yourself.

To J'Lek Arcanos, I'd like to thank you for your friendship and service to Beta Squadron. We worked well together, and I have little doubt you will go far in the organization. Say hello to the Darthlet for me. ;-)

To Tirna Q'jira, I'd like to thank you for your service to Beta Squadron. You have performed well in your tenure, and your ambition shall carry you far. I hope you find what you are looking for.

To Hunter, I'd like to thank you for your attitude and honesty. I knew you only briefly, far too briefly, but I count myself lucky to have encountered someone much like myself in the EH. I will remember you. And that music too. :-)

To Viktor Trollstein, I'd like to thank you for your service and kindness. I am proud to have served with you.

To Firzam Coldsteel, I'd like to thank you for your friendship and exuberance. You are a good person, and I will miss serving as a commander alongside you.

And to Brin Chaser, thanks for all your insight and input. You know a great deal more than I think I will ever know about the TC, and you've got the kindness to temper that knowledge with honesty.

I am naturally a very quiet person, but I hope I have explained my thoughts to you adequately in my final message. I regret leaving you so soon, but I know this is the decision that must be made, and, ultimately, the one that will benefit Beta Squadron the most. It is strange to think that one's tenure as an officer can be so easily condensed, but it can be, and will be, in the annals of the Emperor's Hammer. Go forth in steel and fur, Stoic Yaks. Let the enemies of order know your furry rage, lest you be consumed by the darkness.

Best wishes. Farewell.

Salute.

"I know to you, it might sound strange, but I wish it would rain..."

Respectfully,
Serin "Yakman" Jansj
