Beta Squadron Report #32

October 23, 2004

NEWS

General News:

This report's from a different email again this week because this is from LT Serin "Yakman" Jansj, standing in as A-CMDR for Conker while he's on vacation. He'll be back Sunday, or thereabouts. Reports indicate Conker may be suffering from internal or bladder related problems stemming from his overfraternization with Twi'lek dancing girls and penchant for alcohol. More on this as it becomes available.

I hope everybody's had a good week. The RoS is coming to a close, and hopefully there'll be a new torrent of activity for Beta. I'm happy to say that people actually flew for the Citation Run competition! Actually, one man flew. That man was Firzam Coldsteel, the official Beta Squadron Pilot of the Week. Rest assured that I'll send your stuff on to Conker so he can BSF them and we can get the award out. Impressive. Most impressive.

There are some other competitions going on, notably the Epsilon Squadron Patch competition and the Science Office's Craft Description competition. See below for details.

Remember to include the mission type and number when sending in your pilot files, preferably labeling it in the filename if you can. A good format to use is "Pin Number-Mission Type-Mission Number." It would also help to list that in the email.

Remember also that Conker has a "New Deal" for those who can't fly at the moment, due to time or whatever reason. Contact him to see what other activities you can do besides flying.

Again, the voting for the squad patch is still in the running. There are two in contention and Conker can't decide, so try to help him out by sending in your opinion if possible.

Let's try to start up some conversations on the Squadron mailing list this week if we can. Let's get to know each other better.

Beta Echelon, the website for Beta Squadron, is very close to being completed. Three pages left. Please send in anything you'd like to me so I can put it up. Look for more news soon.

Transfers:
Nobody in or out this week.

Promos:

Medals:

Craft Essay Competition:

Competition Name/Title: Craft Essay Competition

Submitted by: SCO-TCT-TCS-PROF/FA Ender mBind/CS-10/SSSD Sovereign

Start Date (mm/dd/yy): 10/1/2004

End Date (mm/dd/yy): 11/1/2004

Missions/Battles Used: none, fiction competition

Medals to be Awarded: 1st IS-GR, 2nd IS-SR, 3rd IS-BR or equalivalent SG medal.

Miscellaneous Information: Write an essay about your favorite Star Wars ship: Why was it designed? What are its main uses? Its History? Its strengths and shortcomings? - Essays need to be from "inside" the Star Wars universe, and from an Emperor's Hammer point of view is encouraged (but not required). - DO research on your craft of choice, your essay cannot conflict with official sources. If you use sources, list these at the end. (This means a fairly unknown or EH craft gives you more freedom then one that is well documented.. but also that you will need use your own logic and imagination more.) - Essays can be any length, if you want to write about the entire history of the "Millenium Falcon" you're free to do so, but a short but effective story about the TUG has just as much chance to win. - Essays need to be in .txt, .rtf, .html or .doc format and zipped. Send your submission to sco@emperorshammer.org with "Craft Essay Competition" as subject. - The best entries may be included in the the Fleet Manual, a seperate additional ISM (or equalivalent) will be rewarded for those. JOKE OF THE WEEK

The National Institute of Health (NIH) announced last week that they were going to start using lawyers instead of rats in their experiments. Naturally, the American Bar Association was outraged and filed suit. Yet, the NIH presented some very good reasons for the switch.

1. The lab assistants were becoming very attached to their little rats. This emotional involvement was interfering with the research being conducted. No such attachment could form for a lawyer.

2. Lawyers breed faster and are in much greater supply.

3. Lawyers are much cheaper to care for and the humanitarian societies won't jump all over you no matter what you're studying.

4. There are some things even a rat won't do.

Well, that's all for this week. And quite a week it's been. As for me being A-CMDR, that should end on Sunday. If Conker can see, he'll make his way home soon. :P I hope this report finds you well.

Sincerely,
FM/LT Serin Jansj/Beta 2-3/Wing I/SSSD Sovereign
