COO REPORT
COO REPORT #6
FROM: COO/RA Hawkins
DATE SUBMITTED: 7th November 2015
TALES FROM THE AGGRESSOR
The blue and white-tinged tunnel collapsed around them as the stars streaked past his cockpit. The fighters that made up the squadron flickered into view as they reverted to realspace. They floated in open space as the enemy squadron dropped out of Hyperspace opposing them, a mixture of Imperial and Rebel Starfighters.

“Set shields double front and throttle up. Let’s engage the enemy,” he called off. “Flight Two, engage their bombers” he ordered as the two Missile Boats broke formation and streaked towards the Y-Wings.
“Flight three, engage their Fighters on the right flank.” The three TIE Advanced fighters peeled off next, making their way towards the screaming TIE Interceptor that made their way across the gap in what was already heating up with stray laser blasts.

“Flight One, you’re on me. We’re engaging fighters on the left flank but let’s keep an eye on Flight Two and make sure no fighters break off to get behind them.” The remaining three TIE Defenders ships peeled off as they soared across towards the A-Wing’s.

The beeping tone coming through the helmet changed to a steady tone and concussion missiles raced out from both sides of the conflict towards their targets like powerful lasers. Flares and chaff’s fired simultaneously as fighters across the board began a chaotic dance at avoiding the concussion missiles. One of the TIE Advanced in the squadron beeped off of the scanner to indicate their simulated destruction while a TIE Interceptor from the opposing squadron went dark at the same time.

“Heavy ordinance is out, boys. Shift power to your lasers and take them down,” shouted the squadron Commander.

“Hey boss, this lag is awful. Let’s withdraw and try again,” whined one of the pilots from Flight Two. “Cut the chatter and your whining! And you better not make us look bad or you’ll lose your booze privileges for a week!” roared the Commander.

An explosion rocketed half a klick off his aft as one of his TIE Defenders finished off an A-Wing just as another one of his TIE Advanced exploded under the combined firepower of two TIE Interceptors.

“Hey Boss, sorry to interrupt your kill streak, but is that an H-type Nubian yacht I see drifting at the edge of the system?” asked one of his veterans in Flight Three, a chuckle escaping through the comm signal. “What’s a Nubian?” asked one of the pilots, an inexperienced Lieutenant. Rolling his eyes, the Commander yelled into his comm, “Shut the f—.”

“Hey Boss, break off!” interrupted his wingmate. “You got a Slim on your six!” He banked hard and saw the A-Wing out of the corner of his eye make the turn as well, keeping the lock on his ship. Laser blasts flashed across his viewport and splashed against his shields and he zeroed back on to his weakened TIE Defender. He transferred energy from his lasers to his shields and began barrel rolling to dodge the latest blasts.

“Where are you Tie pilots?! I need some help here,” he yelled.

“Hey! It’s TIE, not Tie!” growled ones of the TIE Advanced pilots who’d been knocked out earlier in the match.

“Here boss!” snapped one the pilots, pulling his Missile Boat behind the A-Wing. The warning tone turned solid and a pair of concussion missiles fired off, blowing the smaller Starfighter into bits. Balancing his shields between Fore and Aft, the Commander took a glance down at the scanner. He was down to three ships, his TIE Defender wingmate and the Missile Boat that had come to assist him. The last icon on his scanner flashed out as his wingmate flew through the explosion of the last Y-Wing.

“Good works, boys. Surviving pilots get extra booze rations for the week. Those of you that were taken out, extra Simulator time this week. And enjoy your Legion of Combat medals that will be waiting for us upon arrival.” Opening up a Comlink to the opposing Squadron commander, he congratulated him on a match well played before setting a course back to their Imperial Star Destroyer command ship.

The squadron opened up on the throttle, pouring shield and laser energy into their Engines. After all, there was a keg waiting for them to celebrate over, and they had to prep for another round of combat the next day.

There's an IS-BR up for grabs for the first correct identification of the squadron in this story in a 'Name That Squadron' Competition!
NEWS
LOC screenshots waiting to be processed: 0
LOS screenshots waiting to be processed: 0

An interesting week! The new COOA settles in, a new mini-competition, my first round of medals approved. All very interesting! So, what's the news this week?

THE COOA SETTLES IN

LT Silvius has settled in already and has begun processing screens and is doing well getting the hang of his new role! Please send him many, many complex screens to process. He needs keeping busy. Ok... He's made a brilliant start... Just compare to the number of screens I processed this week compared to the previous ones!!

STAR CONFLICT - UPDATE & DREADNOUGHT

I have now been appointed as the controlling officer for the TC Star Conflict Corp. My first big thing will be to set up use of our new dreadnought! AD Plif has set up a competition to choose a name, which you can find here: Christening the Drednought. Thanks to Plif for all his efforts getitng this beast constructed, and all those pilots who submitted the iridium for its construction.

COO FICTION COMPETITION - "Name That Squadron"

This week's fiction has been submitted by Coranel Both. In the story, he has cleverly disguised a Squadron from the TIE Corps, either commissioned or decommissioned. There's an IS-BR up for grabs for the first correct identification in a 'Name That Squadron' Competition!

I've not got another fiction lined up yet, so if you would like to submit a story, especially one with a competition idea attached, please email me.

NEW COMPETITIONS

As announced in the last report, in addition to the usual batch of Combat Events and Competitions, AND the competition above, there are two new and noteworthy competitions this month! We are eagerly awaiting our first submissions for these competitions!

Star Conflict: Pyrrhic Victory

The first was suggested by our new COOA, LT Sivlius. The Star Conflict: Pyrrhic Victory is a chance to recognise those matches where you fly yourself ragged, achieve great things, but due to the vaguries of random team selection, still suffer a loss! So, in the spirit of the '300 Spartans', those losses can now be recognised for the piloting achievements they represent. This competition will recognise the highest Efficiency scored in a match that was otherwise a loss. This is an email entry competition, so email me at nedius@gmail.com with your submissions, So, remember to screenshot those losses, and submit your best!

Combat Center Banner Competition

The second competition is the beggining of the revamp of the Combat Center. Currently, the Combat Center banner looks like this:

Combat Center logo -- picture designed by Slade (resized)

And I think it's time for a renewal. So, the Combat Center Banner competition has been created! Your challenge is to design the Combat Center a new banner/headline image. This is a two month competition - so plenty of time to come up with and develop your ideas, and we can start the new year with a new image for the Combat Center! Once you've come up with your entry, please email me at nedius@gmail.com with your submissions, So, remember to screenshot those losses, and submit your best!

AVENGER SQUADRON

We are still discussing various ideas for Avenger. One that is gathering a little steam is treating it as at least a position of honour, and allowing it to be added to signature lines as a symbol of mulitplayer activity. Top pilots would be rankedas CMDR and FLs. The current trend is getting it added to the MP Rating part of the sig - so it may appear as [Marksman 2nd - AVENGER/FM], or something along those lines. Must get round to asking Dempsey about that.

One - The problem with the current Avenger Squadron is that it's based on the same criteria as MP Ace of the TIE Corps and MSE awards are also based on the same activity, so you can't award Iron Stars or Merit Medals for being in Avenger Squadron the way it is now. So, change it. Turn Avenger Squadron into a dueling society where pilots have to establish a 1v1 history against other TC pilots. The TC pilots with the top twelve dueling records are Avenger Squadron members, at risk of losing their spot if other pilots are more active duelers than they are. Records would have to be based on both win/loss ratio and overall matches played to make that work. The problem is that this would only really work for XvT and XWA and all of the MP issues with those platforms. You can duel in SC, but it might be weird (or might not?). Avenger Squadron members earn Iron Stars based on how long they've remained members of Avenger Squadron and their position within the squadron.

Two - Make Avenger Squadron membership based on XvT and XWA MP only. Avenger Squadron members earn Iron Stars based on how long they've remained members of Avenger Squadron and their position within the squadron. Different from the previous idea because win/loss ratio isn't a factor , it's not just 1v1, and MP PvE would also count.

Three - Turn Avenger Squadron into a recognition program for TCoR and COO competition/event participation. Some number of points for each week/month/competition participated in, more points for winning. At the end of the year, Avenger Squadron pilots would receive Iron Stars (or merit medals?) based their point totals.

Please, discuss these ideas by replying to this mail, and email me if you have any other ideas on how to move Avenger forward!
