Omega Report # 0 (2003-04-13)

This report was submitted by COL Sasquatch

It's Omega Squadron report time! And strange things, they are a happenin' ...

Squadron News
------------------------

- It doesn't really have anything to do with Omega Squadron (as far as I can see at the moment), but let's take a few minutes to discuss it anyway. Unless you've been under a rock for the past 72 hours, you probably know by now that the Dark Brotherhood of the Jedi has officially rebelled against the Command Staff of the EH, proclaimed their independence, and expressed their desire to go back to being a "sister organization".
I am not, nor have I ever been, a member of the DB. As such, there are probably others in the squad who can do a better job of explaining WHY these things are happening. I'm not even going to attempt this, but I am going to try to sum up WHAT has happened, as I understand it.
Just about every key officer within the DB has signed a petition to separate from the EH. Their main reason for doing this is that they have lost faith in the leadership of the EH Command Staff, specifically SA Astatine. They also blame GA Ronin for allowing SA Astatine to keep his position. You can find the petition, which has a full summary of the grievances put forth by the DB, at this URL : http://www.chaoslogic.com/db/grievance/official_grievance.html
As you might expect, there are two sides to this story. According to the EH( http://www.emperorshammer.org/news.htm#news0a ), the attempted takeover of the DB has been "foiled", and all of the DB officers who have signed the petition have been removed from command and turned over to the authority of the HCI.
The DB sees things quite differently ( http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.org/dbjedi/news.asp ); they seem to have made several technological moves that were intended to safeguard not only themselves, but the integrity of the DB as an autonomous group.
(Thanks to VA Joe for providing the above links!)
Basically, the expulsions have begun. Former FA Darth Vader, an Omega Emeritus, has already been the first member to be expelled, by the express order of the Fleet Commander. DV basically emailed Ronin in support of the current steps being taken by the DB; GA Ronin's response : "I got your retribution right here...DV, you're gone..."
Who knows how this matter will resolve itself? I personally think we may see a split in the DB -- you'll have your DB members that are still loyal to the EH, and your members who approve of separating. But keep in mind, this is really just speculation on my part.
This is not the first time that the DB has tried to separate itself from the EH -- this has been attempted before, but somewhat less successfully. As things stand right now, only the commanding officers of the DB are facing any charges. Pilots who have dual membership in the TC and DB can rest assured that, for now anyway, nothing has changed for you, as far as the TC is concerned. FO Priyum Patel has already ordered that pilots with dual membership in the DB will NOT be treated any differently.
So crazy stuff is definitely happening. I think it's safe to say that this whole fiasco is going to be the main discussion topic for some time to come, so even non-DB members might want to check out the URLs above and keep up with what's going on.
As far as Omega Squadron is concerned, I have served with many pilots in the past who were also members of the DB. I've never treated them any differently than I would any other TC pilots, and I don't intend to start now.

- Now let's get on to some news that actually concerns the squad. As some of you have already noted, LCM Ernest Penfold has transferred out of the squad to take command of Demon Squadron. This was not unexpected -- at least, for me it wasn't. I had been planning to say something about it in this report anyway, but it just so happened that the transfer went through before I got around to typing up the report. Pen has been looking for positions outside of Omega for some time now, and now that his TOD is up, I see no reason to keep him here. I hope he finds whatever it is that he's looking for, and I wish him only the best in his new position.

- CR # 2 of the SSL came to a close this week, and I'm very pleased to report that we had 100% participation! Excellent work, all of you. Todbringer has not yet released the results, but he has indicated that from his initial calculations, we seem to have done very well. Here are the unofficial results for Omega Squadron, as I submitted them to Tod :

CMDR/COL Sasquatch : 38,044 pts.
FM/GN Compton : 31,343 pts.
FM/LC Ixion Deathbringer : 28,455 pts.
---
FL/COL Brian : 35,091 pts.
FM/LCM Ernest Penfold : 4,040 pts.
FM/MAJ Manijak : 12,039 pts.

FM/MAJ Brandon : 67,602 pts.

Total Squadron Laser-less Score : 301,310 pts.
Total of Six Highest Scorers : 256,776 pts.

- Former Omega CMDR, GN Devin, has graciously renewed the OmegaSquadron.Org domain name for yet another year. Devin, Omega Squadron thanks you for your continued friendship and support!

- Due to several circumstances that were beyond our control for the competition with Sigma Squadron (namely, the battle cannot be flown with TIE CD), the competition has officially been aborted. It will begin again tomorrow, this time with a new battle that has been proven to work on all TIE platforms. Let's put this whole messy business behind us and concentrate on flying the new battle (once it is announced) and beating Sigma!

Squadron Orders
-------------------------

- Combat Run # 3 of the SSL has begun! The mission to fly is FREE-TIE # 198, "The Intrusion of Light". I am attaching the mission to this report. Your deadline is April 24th, so let's get flying!

- Stay alert for the Sigma Squadron competition to restart tomorrow.
