Omega Report # 0 (2003-03-25)

This report was submitted by COL Sasquatch

And it's time yet again for another Omega Squadron report! Coming to you LIVE from the spectacular Caribbean Islands!!!

Okay, so I made that last part up. A guy can dream, can't he?

Squadron News
-----------------------

- It's been kind of a slow week, and the big news is that the deadline for the first Combat Run of the resurrected Sovereign Squadron League (TM) is fast approaching! So far I only have submissions from Brandon, Penfold, and Grue. I'm not going to make you sit through another "you need to be flying for this" lecture, but I seriously hope to see some more pilot files show up before the 27th rolls around. 11th hour pilots, take note : you have until 12:00 midnight EST this Thursday!

- We've had some medals awarded this week! Congrats go out to LCM Ernest Penfold and CPT Night Grue, who have each received the Palpatine's Crescent. Pen netted his PC for the insane amount of flying he did during January / February, and Grue gets his PC for excellence in just about every category. Congratulations gentlemen, those medals are well deserved.

- Sigma's CPT Koriel and I are just about finished hammering out the details on the Omega vs. Sigma competition, you can expect it to begin this week. Koriel really can't wait to get the competition started, and that's probably not a good sign for us -- I'm telling you guys, I used to serve in Wing II alongside these Sigma boys, and they are good. I'm sure Todbringer will back me up on this one. We're going to need everyone flying if we expect to NOT get sent home with our tails between our legs.
The competition would have probably already started by now, except that I didn't want to use the average scoring system that Koriel proposed ... it's just a personal preference that I have, because I've seen average scoring work pretty unfairly in the past. What we'll probably do is follow Koriel's second suggestion, which is to get each squadron's score by totaling the laser-less scores of the six highest-scoring pilots. Take note that if we don't get AT LEAST 6 people to fly, we will be adding in zero's, which are great for credit card balances but NOT for EH competitions.

- Some of my favorite highlights from this week's Flight Office report :

- Name change requests: These should be sent to me along with the
> reason for a change. Requests to change your name to a canon/book
> SW/Star Trek/Lord of the Ring/Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory
> character will be denied. Try to think of something suitably sci-fi.
> Do not include any titles, numbers or special characters other than
> the apostrophe (') or the hyphen (-).
>
> - The Golden Rule: Do not include any of the following words or phrases
> in requests: Now, Immediately, ASAP, Get On With It, I Like Celine Dion
> Music, Why Isn't It Done? and It's My Party & I'll Cry If I Want To.

I'm sure this doesn't apply to anyone in the squad, but I just want to say it : It's always a good idea to maintain a courteous, non-demanding tone with your superiors, and that increases exponentially the higher up they are on the Chain of Command.

- Another high score set by CPT Night Grue this week, this time for FREE-TIE # 210! And another high score bits the dust, courtesy of the Lean Mean Grue Machine. Nicely done, Grue.

Squadron Orders
-------------------------

- Primary Orders : Fly FREE-TIE # 215, "Pi Squadron : Minos Cluster" for Combat Run # 1 of the Sovereign Squadron League (TM)! The mission is attached so you don't even have to go download it. You can thank me later ;-)

- Like I said above, be ready for the competition with Sigma. We're all going to need to be at the top of our game. It should be starting VERY soon, maybe even as soon as tomorrow. Be on the look out for an email from me telling you which battle to fly.

Misc.
--------

- GN Compton has asked that we all project our happy thoughts toward him, and "pray that he gets to become the biggest sell-out in history". I have absolutely no idea what this means, but let the speculation begin ... !

Okay, that should wrap it up for now. Fly high and watch your six, everyone!
