Omega Report # 0 (2003-03-10)

This report was submitted by COL Sasquatch

Better get last week's report going before Monday slips away from me ... !

Squadron News
------------------------

- LCM Ernest Penfold has assisted in the recruitment of another member into the EH, and has been awarded the Medal of Instruction for his efforts. Nicely done, Pen! Who knows, maybe we're looking at a future Omega Squadron pilot here? ;-)

- Several high scores were recorded this week. There was a lot of activity with FREE-TIE # 209, which we flew for Operation : Outrageous Fortune. First COL Brian claimed the high score ... then MAJ Brandon took it ... and finally, CPT Night Grue set an even higher score on the mission! Excellent work, all three of you. Besides FREE-TIE # 209, Grue also claimed the top score for TC-TIE # 183 and TC-TIE # 11 this week!

- Speaking of Op:OF, the Red Dragon task force (that's our team, for those of you keeping score) chalked-up another victory against the Blue team this past week. We lost several Gunboat squadrons, but casualties were lightened by the excellent single player TIE flying.

- Back on the subject of Omega's uniforms, GN Compton had a conversation with OPS/AD Khaine this week, where it was revealed that squadron patches are now placed on the front of the uniform due to most people in the TC being unable to 'bend' a patch so that it looks decent on the sleeve. It seems we need to help the TC to help itself in this case, either by coming up with some sort of system to format a patch for placement on the uniform sleeve, or by coming up with some graphical guidelines which can help artists to reach the same end result.

- LC Janich officially retired to the TC Reserves this week, following a long tour of duty in Omega Squadron. We wish him only the best, and let's hope that RL will permit him to return to the EH as soon as possible.

- COM/AD Proton has provided us with the following link for anyone having trouble getting TIE to run on WinXP :

- Lastly, I have been awarded the Palpatine's Crescent for my efforts since I have taken command of Omega Squadron.

Squadron Orders
--------------------------

- The Sovereign Squadron League starts this Saturday, March 15th. You've all had plenty of time to look over the rulebook, but I'm attaching it just in case. Let's get ready!!!

- MAJ Brandon has suggested that perhaps a great test of one's flying skill would be to best Night Grue at TIE Fighter combat, and I would be hard-pressed to disagree. If anyone wants to try a duel with our favorite Grue, I'm sure a suitable FREE-TIE or mission could be arranged ...

Misc.
--------

- The search for new members continues. COL Jon Doyle has graciously refused his invitation, I have yet to hear from LC Zystem Fryar, and Penfold has reported that LCM Atmos has recently been accepted to Praetorian Squadron.

- On a positive note, LC Todbringer has accepted his invitation to join the squad, so we have at least one new Omegan inbound! Tod should be drawing up his transfer papers shortly, and as soon as we get everything approved by the Flight Office, there will be one more pilot in the squad.

- LC Sequoh Marden has asked to be added to the Omega mailing list on a provisional basis, so that he can get a feel for the squad, as well as what level of activity might be expected from him if he were to join. He's being CC'ed this report, so everyone feel free to drop him a line and say "Hi".

- I was cruising through my local bookstore this weekend, and I picked up a copy of "If Chins Could Kill : Confessions of a B Movie Actor", an autobiography by Bruce Campbell. It's hilarious, and a great read for anyone who's ever heard of Bruce or Sam Raimi, or ever seen any of the 'Evil Dead' movies. I give it two sasquatch thumbs up.

Alright, that should wrap it up for this week. Fly high and watch your six, everyone!
