Omega Report # 0 (2003-05-18)

This report was submitted by COL Sasquatch

It's Omega Squadron report time! And awaaaaay we go ...

Squadron News
-----------------------

- It's been kind of a slow week, but there's still plenty to talk about. The most pressing piece of intra-squadron news is that CPT Night Grue recently took the high score for FREE-TIE # 220, which we're all flying for the SSL. Nicely done, Grue!

- Moving on to ship-wide news, this week saw the first rumblings of "Imperial Storm IV : The Almighty Wrath of the Glorious Freakin' Sovereign". Okay, so the real title is probably going to be something like "Sink the Sov", but you get the idea. All the details are still being hammered out, but it looks like it's going to be a pretty exciting event, and they're going to have single player pilots participate with much the same system that is being used for Operation : Outrageous Fortune. You'll be hearing more about ImpStorm IV as we get closer to the start date.

- Wing III's WC, LC Aeishline Strathaven has stepped down due to pressing RL issues.

- The big piece of fleet-wide news this week is that the alliance between the Emperor's Hammer and the Rebel Squadrons has been dissolved, proving once more that history does indeed repeat itself. I personally have very little attachment to the RS, but I do know that a lot of work went into the treaty, and a lot of people were looking forward to EH vs. RS competitions (I believe several were on the drawing board), so it's a shame to see this go up in smoke. You can find all the details at EH.ORG, but to give you a basic run-down on what happened : The RS formed an alliance with the Rogue Dark Brotherhood, and the poodu really hit the fan. You know the Rebs ... just trying to be friends with everybody, I guess. I swear, if I hear one of those RS'ers preach to me about H.E.I.R. just ONE MORE TIME ... !

- As posted at EH.ORG, it looks like LucasArts has announced a new game -- Star Wars : Republic Commando. This one managed to fly underneath my radar somehow, because this is the first I've heard about it. If anyone has heard any good things about this one, feel free to share it with the rest of us ...

Squadron Orders
-------------------------

- Short, sweet, and simple. No, not YOU Manny, you can sit back down. I'm talking about our orders for this week. We all need to fly FREE-TIE # 220, "Save Odin's Spear", for CR#5 of the SSL. It can be a bit annoying, so be sure to get going on it if you haven't flown it already. Your last full day to fly is the 22nd, this Thursday; our deadline is Friday. So far I have submissions from Compton, Ras, Grue, and myself. The mission is attached.

Misc.
--------

- The activity looks pretty harsh this week, but you also have to remember that it's only been about 5 days since my last report, instead of the usual 7 or 8. Everyone just be sure to fly for CR#5, and we'll all be smiling.

- Rant alert! I don't usually think much of people ranting about spam ... I mean, the way I look at it, spam happens. Everybody has to deal with it, no you can't make it stop coming, so you might as well just delete it and move on. But every now and then, even I get fed up with it. Take today for example -- I had 40 emails (a paltry amount, I'll admit), and 39 of them were spam. Only one email that I wanted to read! And you know how these guys work ... you get an email with a subject line that says "Re:Hey!", and then you accidentally open it before you really think about it, and now you're looking at an add for yet another get rich quick scheme, and 9 times out of 10 it starts out like this : "REAL story! Parents of 9 year old one-armed boy find 50 bajillion dollars hidden in his closet! We can tell you his secret!". Ah well. The miracles of the digital age, right?

Okay, that's going to wrap it up for this week. Fly high and watch your six!
