* TCCOM back from semi LoA * lots of promotions * 2 returnies from RSV/inactive * 1 new SL * New Alpha CMDR * 1 transfer to RSV * lots of talk about BF3 and other game supports * lots of talk about the future of the TC * TCCOM still trying to catch up with all ongoing discussions |
Another perfect vacation week is over. At least it was a perfect one for a workoholic. But let's digg through it bit by bit. First of there has been a lot of discussion about the future of the TIE Corps, changes that some members see needed and games some members would like to see on the supported games list for the TIE Corps. The discussion started on the mailing list with a lot of enthusiasm and, for some, with a bit of a bad tone toward those that but in the Emperor's Hammer, its Subgroups and YOUR fun all the energy and time they can afford. I fully understand that this discussion went this emotional for some parts as the TIE Corps and the Emperor's Hammer are groups that can get you involved on an emotional level and I am glad that this many people still have these feelings for this club I love so much since my first days here back in 1999. There were some points that we need to think through seriously. But not all of those are options for the TIE Corps, I guess I made that clear with my answer to that mail chain. I guess Tempest got that explained the best in one of his MB posts: "Yeah, allowing non-flying games as official TC platforms would probably result in some more members. It would also mean, however, that our rosters, our medals, our uniforms, our entire structure, basically, would cease to make sense. Even calling it "TIE Corps"." I couldn't agree more. Still I know there is a desire to move forward, get new stuff added to the TIE Corps to not let it fade away. We did start that process back when Dan was TCCOM and agreed to use the allready EH sanctioned Star Conflict for the TIE Corps as official activity. We even went on and created the LoS more or less for the PVE side of Star Conflict. And it is a flourishing activity game and I really like playing it, especially in the rare occasions when I find some other TC members to fly together with. But that is just one game and we decided to use it AFTER it has been long accepted by GA Rapier as EH sanctioned game (brought forward by the DB, just to give proper credit). And it is a Space Flight Sim with a great focus on flying and fighting, just like the good old XW series games had. The basic activity the TIE Corps was created for and around. The same kind of activity it is living with since its creation. It's flesh and bones. I will always be open to discussions about new games for the TIE Corps, as long as those will be Space Flight Sims with a strong focus on fighting and flying. Your best chance to get your Flight Sim game approved will be to have a detailed plan about how to get it integrated into the standing TIE Corps medal/activity system and to have at least a couple of people with you that also fly that game. You'll have to put some energy into this to get it to run! This is no offer like "I'll throw this games name at you and wait for you to get it to run for me". I'll at once deny any game for the TIE Corps that doesn't have those aspects. Any RTS/Trading/Economy/FPS/etc. game that comes out and is approved for the Emperor's Hammer has a Subgroup that will handle it for sure, the Dark Brotherhood. The only support for those games is as part of a competition run for IS-*R, just like the SW Commader app and Plif's ongoing competition for it. Even though this might sound like advertising for the Dark Brotherhood I want to add some lines as arguments against those calling the Dark Brotherhood dead. We have a strong presence in Star Trek Online within the Dark Brotherhood. We've had a strong Clan with bristling activity not that long ago with Clan Drakonan. But it all stands and falls with the medium level leadership. What the DB realy needs are Battle Team Leaders that, just like the CMDRs in the TIE Corps, are reliable and put the same effort into the club that they expect their leaders to do. The Dark Brotherhood always had good and bad times and those were always because of the work of the whole CoC, not just the top level leaders. The Dark Brotherhood has always been there to catch those active in games not supported by any other SG. So if you're looking for a place within the Emperor's Hammer for any kind of activity not supported by the TIE Corps, go for the Dark Brotherhood and you'll surely get rewards for it. Double membership isn't a problem there and you might even go for a leadership position in both Sub Groups. Even though this is a quite demanding task to do, I can tell you from my own experience. To make a short summary about all the text so far. The TIE Corps is and always will be a Flight Sim focused Sub Group of the Emperor's Hammer. For everything else, go for the DB or create some competitions for it. Enough about this for this report. We can go on discussing this on the Message Board though. I will try to get all the actual posts read and reply as soon as I made up my mind. There were a lot of promotions again last week. LT Sparky got promoted to LCM, CM Len Eode to CPT, MAJ Repulsor to LC. All well deserved promotions and a good bunch of reasons for another party. But there were also some sad news. LCM Simomime decided to retire to the RSV and be removed from the TC/Hammer mailing lists. LC Iceman had to step down from his CMDR position in Alpha squadron due to RL issues. He still remains on the roster as Alpha 1-3 though. His successor as Alpha CMDR is LCM Archenksov who got his promotion to CM due to this. I am sure you'll do a great job, CM Archenksov! Now on to more positive news. Last week saw the return of 2 old TIE Corps veterans. COL Coranel Both returns from inactivity to Beta 3-2 and CM Xavier Sienar returns from the RSV to Sin 1-4. It's good to have you back, gents! Another good news is the arrival of SL Sharu from PLT Daedalus. He joins us as Delta 1-2. Welcome aboard! And that was another week of my vacations. |

I know you all want to see the TIE Corps flourish in the future and see it live on for eternity. I'm with you, people. I just have a picture of the TIE Corps in my mind I share with most veterans that built the TIE Corps and I don't see the TIE Corps changing that much from that picture. Still we can evolve, just not have a revolution. Still I begg you to keep putting your effort and energy into the Emperor's Hammer and the TIE Corps as you did in the past. We as the Emperor's Hammer have a lot to offer, not just the flying we do in the TIE Corps! respectfully submitted Woody TCCOM/FA Elwood the Brave/TC-1/ISD II Challenge GOE/GSx2/SSx8/BSx19/PCx19/ISMx21/IS-1PW-16GW-46SW-117BW-13SR-23BR/MoI/MoT-2bh/LoC-PSx3-RS-TS-IS-CSx7-Rx3/LoS-PS-CSx5-Rx3/DFC-Rx4/MoC-2doc-2poc-2goc-4soc-27boc/CoLx5/CoB/OV-15E [GLDR] [Ace 1st] TOP GUN of the TIE Corps MAA/DSP Elwood the Brave/DC-3/ (SL) (DS) (RS) (GCx10) (SoI) (SoI) (SE-LB) (SE-TB) (DC-O) (SNB) (Cr-R-Ax11-Sx9-Ex35-Tx21-Qx14) (CF-OF) (LSP) (SI) {IU:C/TC, C/DB, C/DIR, S, XWAC, KRATH, OBELISK, SITH, UL, REP, SM2, SM3, SM4, WM, IO, BTL, AIM, M1, M2, ICQ, MS1, CBX, DW, FLA, LIN, GFX, IBX, PHP, VBS, XML, HIST, INO, INTEL, PRER, GR, MAN1, MAN2, WKS, AF, DL, JO1, RG, HAD, GHA, THR, OSS, INTC, CRD, EJE, TD, FT, MI, SPW, SN1, SMA, SN2, SN3, SN4, SU, CC, VS1, VS2, VS3, VS4, ESET, ESET, ISET, AWAK, BWAK, XWAK, YWAK, AT1, DT1, DT2, CM1, CM2, ARTY1, LSC, LST, TLC, 2, BFM, SFT, EAW, STM, XWAI, XTT, TIE, SC, HTML/1, HTML/2, SFW, ARG/1, 1, 1, MCBS, XAM, XMD} |
