Squadron News

- The big news this week is that Ixion has been promoted to Colonel! Congrats on the promo Ixion, it's been a long time coming and it's very well deserved.
- And we've had quite a few medals awarded this week! Congrats go out to MAJ Artyis and COL Ixion for receiving the Iron Star with Gold Wings, for their first place finishes in CR#7 and CR#8 of the SSL, respectively.
- More congrats are in order for MAJ Artyis, he has received the Iron Star with Silver Wings for his second place performance in CR#8.
- And last but certainly not least, congratulations to CPT Night Grue for receiving two Iron Stars with Bronze Wings, for his 3rd place finishes in CR#7 and CR#8.
- The General's Sovereign Summer Patrol keeps rolling along, and I'm proud to announce that all Omegans involved in the competition have survived the first 5 weeks! Excellent flying by Artyis, Ras, and Ixion!
- MAJ Manijak has had an accident, due to a fall that he took in RL. Manny's foot is now in a cast, which makes it difficult for him to position himself to use his computer, let alone do any flying. Be more careful Manny, and get well soon! And no Grue, we will not be amputating his foot so that you can have it ;-)
Squadron Orders
-------------------------
- Primary orders are to fly TC-TIE # 204, "Adventures in Other Space", for CR#10 of the SSL ... playoffs round 2! Deadline is August 1st, which means that your last full day to fly is July 31st, this Thursday. Right now I only have ONE submission, and that is from Ixion. Don't keep me in suspense, let's get some submissions sent in! Remember that this is a 4 mission battle, so allow yourself a little more time to fly than normal. I'm attaching the battle to this report.
- After you have flown for the TIE Division, fly TC-XWA # 33, "Operation : Sector Cleanup", for the XWA Division of the SSL! Same deadline, August 1st, so your last full day to fly is July 31st. I currently have no submissions for the XWA division ... I know you guys like to work at the last minute, but let's be sure to have a good showing and make it to the next round of playoffs!
- Ixion, Ras, and Artyis ... Week 6 assignments for the GSSP should be out shortly, so keep your TIEs warmed up!
- Everyone be sure to participate in the Sovereign Summer Caption contest. This is an extremely easy competition to be a part of ... simply go to http://www.minos.net/~proton/caption.html, look at the four pictures, come up with some humorous captions, and mail them in to AD Proton (with a CC for your CMDR). And that's it! With the somewhat ... twisted ... sense of humor that many of you have, you should be able to come up with some very interesting submissions ;-)

- I learned this week that walking around in SWG while wearing your Imperial uniform is a great way to get yourself shot. It doesn't help that I made many mistakes along the way ... anyone who wants to read the full account of "a fool and his uniform" can read my post here : http://theholo.net/mb/viewtopic.php?t=7945.
- While flipping through the channels at a friends house this week, we stumbled upon an old '80s cartoon ... Mr. T and the T Squad, or something close to that. I kid you not, an '80s cartoon featuring Mr. T. There was no way we could change the channel; we HAD to watch. Apparently, the cartoon version of Mr. T makes a living by driving the bus for a gymnastics team, and they all get into a bunch of wacky adventures. In this particular episode, Mr. T performed all of the following stunts :
1) Mr. T dived out of a 5th story window and landed on a moving vehicle, which was being driven by the bad guys, of course.
2) Mr. T repelled down a cliff side to save some gymnastics foo' ... when the rope started to break, Mr. T threw the gymnast over 20 feet straight up, so that they made it safely to the top of the cliff. When the rope finally broke, the T man proceeded to climb back up the sheer face of the cliff.
3) Mr. T discovered a robotic version of himself, which he initially disliked very much. The two T's proceeded to trash talk each other.
4) Near the end of the episode, Mr. T and Robo T proceeded to infiltrate a flying saucer, which had been built from "existing hovercraft technology". They then beat the poor foo's inside the saucer senseless.
There was more, but I think you get the idea ... the people who wrote this show must have been on crack. It's fun to watch, just to see what new skill Mr. T will exhibit. I hear that next week he performs open heart surgery with a fork and a toothpick! There's something to be said for a healthy amount of fiction, but the Mr. T cartoon manages to take all rules of physics and reality and just turn them upside down.
And I just thought I should tell you that. ;-)
