Omega Report # 0 (2003-07-21)

It is Omega Squadron report time! So strap yourself in ... here's what the critics are saying about Omega Squadron reports :

"A non-stop roller coaster ride of thrills, chills, and spills! If you only read one report this summer, make it the Omega Squadron report!" -- Joel Snigler, "Good Morning, EH!"

Okay, so I made that last part up. You know you love 'em, though.

Squadron News
------------------------

- The big news this week was the strong performance that you guys turned in during the first round of the playoffs! Thanks to your hard flying, we have advanced to the next rounds in both the TIE and XWA divisions! If we play our proverbial cards right, the scores say that we might be looking at a dual championship in these two divisions!

- The General's Summer Sovereign Patrol keeps rolling right along ... I'm proud to announce that no Omegans have been "dropped off" yet! Nice work by Ixion, Ras, and Artyis.

- CM Ras Kronar has returned from his short leave -- welcome back, Ras!

- The assignments for CR#10 have been released ... I don't have any more news to report on here, so let's move on to ...

Squadron Orders
-------------------------

- Fly TC-TIE # 204, "Adventures in Other Space", for CR#10 (playoff round #2) of the SSL! This is another 4 mission battle, so plan for more flight time than you needed during the regular season. Deadline is August 1st, which means that your last full day to fly will be July 31st, next Thursday. For this round of the playoffs, we're facing off against Yod Squadron, and with a 5% score bonus. As long as everyone just keeps up the outstanding effort that you've all been making so far, we should be just fine.

- After having flown for the TIE Division, it's time to start thinking about XWA. The XWA battle to fly is TC-XWA # 33, "Operation : Sector Cleanup". Same deadline applies; your last full day to fly is July 31st. We're squaring off against Diamondback Squadron this round, but this time the 5% bonus will be working against us. Everyone seems to be indicating that we can do even better with XWA than we did in the last round ... if we can do that, then I think we can beat Diamondback and move on. Last time we only had 5 pilots fly, so let's try to get the minimum of 6 this time. You will find the battles for both divisions attached to this report!

- GSSP Pilots, be ready. Week 5 assignments should be out shortly. You'll know more when I do!

Misc.
--------

- Again, lots of solid activity this week! Everyone keep up the good work!

- One of my friends dragged me in to see "Pirates of the Caribbean : Curse of the Black Pearl" this weekend. I thought that this looked like a terrible movie; how could anything based on a theme park ride possibly be any good? However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the movie was very enjoyable! The only thing it has in common with the Disney ride is the concept that, somewhere, there were pirates. Other than that, it's all original (as far as I could tell), and very entertaining. I give it two thumbs up. However, I'm very apprehensive about their next "movie based on a ride", which is going to be "The Haunted Mansion", with Eddie Murphy. If you see "Pirates", you'll see a trailer for it. Maybe they shouldn't have pushed their luck ...

That's gonna wrap it up for this week, guys. As always ... fly high and watch your six!
