Omega Report # 0 (2003-08-10)

This report was submitted by GN Sasquatch

Another week beginning, and that can mean only one thing : another Omega Squadron report!

This week's report brought you by : Coffee. COFFEE -- "Supporting the world economy since 50 billion B.C."

Squadron News
------------------------

- The big news this week is that, thanks to the fine effort that each and every one of your has put forth, we have advanced to the final round of the SSL in both the TIE and XWA divisions. Excellent work, gentlemen! Only one more round to go before this year's SSL hits the record books; we have a chance to make history here (I think) and take a dual championship in the TIE and XWA divisions, so let's finish out strong! More in the orders section.

- Congratulations are in order for MAJ Artyis, who was awarded not one, but two Iron Stars with Gold Wings this week! Artyis earned these medals for his first place individual finish in the TIE Division of Playoffs rounds 1 and 2 of the SSL. Great work!

- More congrats go out to LC Todbringer, who brought home two Iron Stars with Silver Wings this week! Tod was awarded these medals for his second place individual finish during SSL Playoffs rounds 1 and 2. Nicely done, Tod!

- COM/AD Proton announced this week that all participating pilots of the top three squadrons of each SSL division will receive the following awards :

Championship Squadron : Iron Star with Platinum Wings
Runner-Up Squadron : Iron Star with Gold Wings
Third Place Squadron : Irons Star with Silver Wings

- The Flight Office announced some of the upcoming changes which will be made to the TC Training System ... apparently, all training units will be dissolved and pilots will be assigned directly to squadrons once they pass IWATS basics. This goes to show that the more things change, the more they stay the same. I can still remember taking several trainees "under my wing" in my old squad ;-)

- Just a bit of news here for XWA pilots ... the Science Office has released a patch for XWA which changes the Rebel Concourse into an Imperial one. It's basically the same concourse from TIE95, only flipped around and with a few modifications ... but still, it's better than having to look at the inside of a stupid MonCal, isn't it? I've tried it out and this patch seems to work fine, so I give it thumbs up. You can get it here : http://www.minos.net/~sco/files/xwa/IMP-XWA.zip

Squadron Orders
-------------------------

- Here we go ... it's finals time for the SSL. We're paired against Praetorian Squadron in the TIE Division. Having recently run a recruitment competition, Prae has filled out it's roster with proven competition winners ... young guns. They've been trailing right behind us for most of the regular season, and if we let our guard down here at the end, they would have a good chance to snatch the win away from us. So fly my monkeys ... fly like you've never flown before! If we can just out-fly Prae for one more round, we can take that 1st place trophy and give it a place of honor in the Omega Cantina. With that said, you should know that your battle to fly for this round is TC-TIE # 194, "Terrorist Attack", a 4 mission battle. Deadline is August 22nd, which means that your last full day to fly is August 21st. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to fly, and try to score your highest. You can find the battle attached to this report.

- After flying for the TIE Division, it's time to suit up again and fly for the XWA Division! Having just barely qualified for the finals, we've pretty much come completely out of left field and proven to be a threat to win the XWA Division. We have been paired against Vampire Squadron, who have been strong throughout the competition. We will definitely need to have the minimum six pilots fly if we want to have a chance here! Battle to fly here is FCHG-XWA # 3, "Ronin's Deception". Same deadline as the TIE Division, August 22nd, with your last full day to fly being August the 21st. I'm attaching the battle!

- GSSP Week 8 assignments should be out shortly ... Ixion, Ras and Artyis, you will know more once I do!

- For the graphically-minded among you, here's a great way to provide a service to the EH and get yourself a shiny new medal in the process :

Competition Name/Title A Heroes Flag
Submitted by: CA:LO/RA Daniel Stephens/CA-11/SSSD Sovereign

Parties Involved All Emperors Hammer subgroups
Missions/Battles Used none
Medals to be Awarded IS-PR to winner, IS-GR to second, IS-SR to third, and IS-br to the 4th
Miscellaneous Information This is a competition to make a "flag" of sorts for the Emperors Hammer Memorial. I also want to have the EH logo on the flag, but I don't want the whole flag to be taken up by it.

It needs to be around 50K or less in size with a resolution that's comparable to a standard splash image, I believe the normally don't exceed 300x300, but I could be wrong. As for format we'll only except JPG, TIF, or PNG. Other formats don't have the compression to really allow a nice image to have a small file size.

Misc.
---------

- Some more solid activity this week ... you guys are blowing me away! Keep it up!

- True Story : I'm playing SWG, and exploring west of Mos Espa on Tatooine. I've been climbing toward the Jawa Mountain Fortress, and while I knew I was up pretty high, I didn't really know just how high I had climbed. And then I was buzzed by an Imperial shuttle, which could not have been anymore than 10 feet right above me. That tends to get your attention, and it's these little things that make SWG great. That whole experience was better than the Jawa Fortress, which turned out to be only a few buildings, two closed-off sandcrawlers, and an overabundance of Jawas. Kind of like a really boring flea market, only nothing was for sale ...

Well, that's gonna wrap it up for this week. As always, fly high and watch your six!
