Philosophy Corner

The year 2001 comes to an end, and year 2002 is coming up. It was a nice year for Phantom Squadron. In January, this squadron was being led by Linkan, and was reduced to 5 pilots. Before Werdna came up, we changed from Linkan to Weasel, and members were rotated, while me and Spearhawk just stood here watching our squadron become a mere shadow of the past; Ranger squadron keeping its supremacy on Wing XI with Banger and Gidda crushing any offensive against their mighty squadron; Darksaber taking the lead of Falcon squadron, acquiring Gord Darkonian and slowly turning a medium class squadron into a wrecking machine; and Dras Hempor fill the Demon Squadron roster and train all his members according to his own top-class flying skills.
When Werdna came in, he put his recruitment skills to work and filled our squadron roster back to top form, making me proud to be a Phantom pilot once again. This wing also retook its most desired prize: the title of flagship of the Battlegroups. The last ECR will be a comp to remember.
I shall remember this year as the year of leadership. All my life I was always the "Number 2", the second in command, the guy who advised the boss, in absolutely everything. But this year I became CMDR of Phantom squadron, became Recruitment officer of the Skye Rangers (Ronin's Mechwarrior club) and was elected responsible of my class at university.
It's sad that many people won't be seeing this year with such a good sight. Because of the 11th September, many American families will remember this year and think of the relatives they lost and the destruction of the Twin Towers. Lets just hope that everyone can find the inner strength to surpass this, and that the best fireworks that all the terrorists at Tora Bora and the rest of the world will see will be bombs dropped from B-52s falling on their front doors.

SQUADRON NEWS

- This was the most inactive week ever... but hey! It's Christmas :)
- Our comp against Daleth continues. So far half the work is done for me, Deimos, and Nuno.
- Windows XP unsecure: an hacker working for a security company found out that Windows XP is highly unsecure (Spearhawk: Tell us something we don't know. Could you add "bugged" too?), so unsecure that allows an external hacker to do absolutely everything to your computer, from deleting files to registering keystrokes of your precious passwords. Check the Microsoft website if your using this OS haven't got the problem solved.
- New game from the Science Office: the science office has released a new game, called "Fleet Admiral". Basically, it's Panzer General with Star Wars ships and spacecraft. It's entertaining and worth playing, and pratically all SW spacecrafts are there, including Tie Phantoms. The graphics are very old (Spearhawk: What did you expect? The game is made in Pascal, you morons!), but who knows... it might get some improvements in the future.
- Pilot goes to reserves: It is sad for me to report that LCM Bobecc has requested a transfer to reserves. We're losing one of our finest pilots. With him going out, the position of FL of flight 3 is vacant again (seems like my old post is cursed). I'm not accepting any applications, I'll decide who's replacing him soon enough.

SQUADRON STATUS:

- Fly XWA-Free 14 and XWA-Free 18 and hand the plt files to me before the 10th of January (Urza: Or on the 10th itself.). We have to beat Daleth Squadron, our reputation is at stake here!
- Remember, the more squadron citations the better. Try to fly a XWA-Battle whenever possible.
- Where Jari failed, anyone of you may suceed. Challenge Mark and beat him if you want to be known as the Phantom Squadron Ace.
- One other thing, I'll be sending my MSE tomorrow, so I would appreciate if no one sends me any plt file in the 31 of this month. Thank you.
