Spear Report # 21 (2001-07-17)

This report was submitted by CPT Krax Tarnisar

CMDR/CAPT Krax Tarnisar reporting in for Spear Squadron on July 17, 2001

Fleet News
For those of you who are interested, the Directorate has started the latest version of Conquest. There are also some command openings, both in the Staff and the Line. Also, for those of you who fly XWA, Exercise Imperial Storm II continues to move along. As always, check the TC News page (http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp) for the latest.

Wing News
The other squadrons of Wing IX continue their operations, some with more activity than others. Nothing new on the home front.

Squadron News
Activity is back down from last week, which is not good. I’d like to see each pilot fly at least one TC Battle or two Free Missions this coming week. The more you fly, the higher you rank in the Fleet Commander’s Honor Guard and the more likely it is that you will win something like a nice, shiny Imperial Security Medal. Also, the sooner we get back into top flying shape the sooner we can start entering (and winning) squadron competitions. After our last two disastrous outings, though, I’d be ashamed to send Spear into battle. I’ve already had to turn down one competition invitation from another squadron.

If, for any reason, you are unable to fly, report to me and let me know what’s going on. There are other squadron projects that can be worked on, such as designing a new Spear Squadron banner or one for your particular flight. Again, these are things that can earn you medals as well as recognition in the fleet for your ability. You could also write something for submission to the Dark Sentinel. I’m sure that some of you can do better than some of what’s appeared in the past. They don’t even have to be long; I’ve seen stories of less than two pages appear there. Even updating your INPR (by adding some more character background – preferably something more original than ‘I was Vadar’s/the Emperor’s/Governor Tarkin’s right hand/adopted son or daughter’) counts as activity. To see what I mean, take a look at LCM Ironfist’s INPR (or mine, if you’re really bored). You could also take an IWATS course. They don’t take long, and contain useful information.

Activity Reports
CMDR/CAPT Krax Tarnisar: Did commander stuff, including this report – Flew TC74 and started TC171

FM/LT Weasel de Killa: No contact – let me know which FM you flew so you can get credit for it!

FL/LCM Argyle Ironfist: On leave

FM/LT Owen: Checked in

FM/LT Pirat: Declared AWOL and sent to the Reserves

Miscellaneous
Pirat’s AWOL should be a lesson to you all about the seriousness of the weekly check-in. There are NO exceptions to this policy. The only way you can miss the check-in is if you’re on leave or have a RL issue (hard drive melting down, web connection cut off, and so on). I don’t care if you’re on IRC 24/7 or post 500 messages at the TC Message Center. All you have to do is reply to the WSR, even if it’s just saying hello. Be warned, though. When the new Wing SSOs are approved, all flight members will be required to do weekly reports (things like what you’ve done and/or are planning to do). If you miss those two weeks in a row without good reason, policy in the Wing will be that you MAY be declared AWOL and sent to the Reserves. Our new Commodore’s serious about this one, folks. Better to get in the habit now and not get a nasty surprise later.

Now that we’re down to four members, I’m open to any suggestions regarding squadron recruiting. Be aware, though, that it’s against Wing policy to spam ANY members of the Daedalus. I know this is practiced in some other wings, but in Wing IX it’s a sure ticket to trouble. I’ve had doubts about the effectiveness of the Recruiting Board at the TC Message Center, and have held off on posting anything there. I think the time has come, though, for me to just break down and do it. IRC is another recruiting source, as are places like the Zone. If any of you have any ideas, or know of people who’d be interested in joining the Corps and Spear Squadron, let me know. I’d also be open to the idea of one of you acting as our Recruiting Officer. We just need to plan our activities so that we don’t violate either the Flight Office recruiting policies or those of Wing IX. If you have any questions about the right way to recruit, let me know.
