Spear Report # 23 (2001-07-29)

This report was submitted by CPT Krax Tarnisar

CMDR/CAPT Krax Tarnisar reporting in for Spear Squadron on July 28, 2001

Fleet News
For those of you who are interested, the Directorate has started the latest version of Conquest. There are also some command openings, both in the Staff and the Line. Also, for those of you who fly XWA, Exercise Imperial Storm II continues to move along. As always, check the TC News page (http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp) for the latest.

Wing News
The WCO competition ended on July 27, but that is not the biggest news coming from the Wing. That honor would have to go to the introduction of the first set of Ship Standing Orders for the ISD Relentless. In a move designed to stabilize and standardize operations, RA Ricaud put these SSOs in place. They include some new positions, standards for communication and pilot evaluations, as well as a ranking system to be used for competitions. Soon to be posted on the Web, they can be seen simply by sending a request to your ever-lovin' CO.

Squadron News
First off, I'd like to thank all of you for your outstanding efforts in this WCO. We have one possible mission high score, and every pilot who could fly did so to the best of their abilities. This is the kind of effort I knew Spear Squadron was capable of, and you have earned my salute this week!

LCM Ironfist has been busy since he came back from leave, recruiting officers from the Reserves to serve in Spear. He drinks free in the StarDrifter for the next week…;)

Speaking of new members, in addition to COL Torres, we've been joined by LCM Darkheart. Join me in welcoming all our veterans to Spear Squadron!

The Relentless SSOs came into effect at the start of this last week. How will they change our squadron's operations? Not much, in reality. Spear already required weekly communication, so the new SSOs shouldn't come as a shock to you in this area. The new positions will only have an impact if you're interested in serving in one of them. I'll be sending out more details about these positions in the days to come, but if you're interested now in taking on some extra duties let me know. They mainly deal with setting up competitions, training, and like areas.

Speaking of the SSOs, I'm still waiting for monthly evaluations from most of you. And don't forget about the new weekly Personal Report.

Now that the WCO is over, we need to work on maintaining this level of activity. This includes those of you with joystick troubles. In order to do this, we'll be selecting a 'Mission of the Week.' This can be either a Free Mission or one of the Battles. These will be chosen by myself in consultation with our Flight Leaders. It's also possible that we might throw in missions created by Spear Squadron members that have yet to be approved by the Tac Office.

The motto/banner competition continues. I'm holding off on a squadron banner until we get a new motto. The idea I've got now is "Der ehrenwert Stoss," which translates roughly as "Honorable Striker." I would like to see banner ideas for the three flights, though. Banners for Flight II should also be CC: to LCM Ironfist for his input and comments. Flights I and III can come to me. I'm pretty happy with the flight mottoes right now, so these will be changed only if the Flight Leaders wish. Winners from each flight will earn themselves an Imperial Security Medal.

Activity Reports
CMDR/CAPT Krax Tarnisar: Did commander stuff, including this report - Re-flew Free-TIE 11 and started TC 130

FM/LT Weasel de Killa: Checked in - excused from WCO due to USB joystick troubles

FM/LCM Darkheart: Joined Spear from the Reserves - flew WCO mission

FL/LCM Argyle Ironfist: Checked in - flew TC-8

FM/LT Owen: Checked in - flew WCO mission

FM/COL Torres: Checked in - flew WCO mission

Miscellaneous
Remember - don't cheat!

If you're looking for some easy ways to boost your activity, try taking an IWATS course or two. They're all accessible on-line, and are quite useful. I'd recommend the TIE Tactics course, and for those of you who are interested in a command of your own someday in the Corps Squadron Management/II is a fine choice. The computer basics and IRC courses are also informative. Those of you with joystick troubles should really consider an IWATS course.

LCM Ironfist is still looking for items for our website. If you've got some good fiction or a graphic, send them along.
