Phantom Weekly Report #12
(29.04.01)

Introduction

A very quiet week for us. It's not that there aren't any competitions on, but there hasn't been anything too big that we really want to win. Still, we've been keeping busy quite nicely with the pilots flying plenty of missions for BSF and the competitions that are on right now, communicating a lot, and just general stuff.

What we really need is a big competition. Luckily it looks like we're going to have one, because the Immortal vs. RS competition is coming very soon. Also, the Battlegroups Ace Pilot League competition and BG Squadron competitions are both to begin again on the 1st May!!! More news on them can be found at http://www.emperorshammer.ca/battlegroups

Squadron News

A busy couple of months

My final college exams are coming up, so I got lots and lots of revision to do. While I still have time to be your CMDR, and do a good job of it too, I won't be on the Internet quite as much as usual. All this really means is that you may get a delay in getting your BSFs done or replies to your mails (by maybe a day). It's not too bad I guess.

btw, if you already experience delays waiting for BSFs to be finalised...it's not my fault!!! I do them straight away, but the ones that have high scores seem to be checked carefully before being done. It's your fault for doing so well :o)

Vampire re-opens

I know that this isn't exactly squadron news, buts it's very important Wing stuff. Wing XI is now at a full quota of 6 squadrons, so please feel happy for Vampire's new CMDR, CM Gravin and the two new Wing XI pilots who have joined to make the opening possible, LT Hawk Eye and LT Slayer.

Few changes this week

It's not a bad thing...it's nice to have some stability in the squadron for once. It makes for a boring report though :(

Current Activities and Competitions

Wing Competition

Fly FREE-XWA25 and send the pilot files to me for Wed 2nd (well, before that date as I have to send the results then). Top scorer gets an IS-SW and 2nd place gets an IS-BW.

Squadron Competition

Fly IW-XWA22 to me for 29th May (today). I haven't got many entries for this, so if you have the pilot file hanging around on your computer then send it in right now. The top scorer will get an IS-BW.

New Wing GFX Competition

Create a banner for the Immortal/Wing XI with the dimensions of 400x50 pixels. The first prize is an IS-SR and the second an IS-BR. Deadline is the 2nd May and all entries go to COL Badlands at badlands@isdclements.freeserve.co.uk. Also cc: me your entries, or at least tell me you have entered.

I want to see you all enter in this competition. If you don't think you can for any reason, then please mail me to say why...otherwise I'll just think your a lazy sod!!!

Communications

Message Board - I just want to remind everyone that there are a few topics of conversation going on in the Phantom Message Board. It can be found in the same neighbourhood as the main TC message boards at http://www.tiecorps.org/mb/

Mailing List  You can also post on this mailing list. Simply mail Phantom_Squadron@yahoogroups.com what you would like to have posted. You could post information, start and carry on discussions, ask for help on a variety of subjects, post tips for how to do better in a competition mission, etc.

IRC  Please attend #isd_immortal as often as possible on IRC. There are also the channels #emperor’s_hammer and #tiecorps, so please go there as often as you can. If you don't know how to use or get on IRC, please mail me about it and I will help you.

Immortal IRC Meeting - There is also a Ship meeting in #isd_immortal at 3pm EST (8pm GMT) every Sunday for announcements and chat. I should be there, so if you need any help with anything or just a chat with me, please show up.

Fleet News

Blatantly nicked from the TC news page, but why should I have to retype it just for this report...it'll be just the same info!

Those of you who have neglected to bother to log in and submit bug reports will find your FCHG score dropping rapidly...

But in other news, the Tactical Office will be conducting a review of it's current status. Reviews of the Tactical Manual, Tactical Staff, and all things TAC-y. Any suggestions, comments, or rants, should be sent to the Tactical Officer Fleet Admiral StarLion with the subject "Tactical Review". Failure to use this subject will result in your email being deleted.

Warning to all MSN Users
10:37 - AD Quake [guyquake@btinternet.com]
The Microsoft Network has been infected with the HELLO.exe virus, as yet, MSN don't know of the Virus. From my own diagnosis, the virus takes over your MSN client as soon as you download the file HELLO.exe. The client will then attempt to send it to everyone in your friend list. If you respond to an infected client, it will start to mimic what you say. I strongly advise that all Windows MSN users to go and download Trillian, which is a client that lets you talk on the MSN/AOL and ICQ network, this client CANNOT be infected. Download if from Here

Vogue release date
03:56 - COL Mairin Astoris [somnia_vacua@yahoo.com]
Greetings all. We're hoping to get Issue #1 of Imperial Vogue released by 15th May. Anyone and everyone who's writing articles or thinking about writing articles for us should be looking to get those sent off to us (vogue@isdchallenge.org) by 12th May AT THE LATEST.

Anything we receive after that will be going into Issue #2.

ASF News
19:15 - VA Cyric [jroscoe@bellatlantic.net]
Lieutenant Colonel Brucmack is stepping down because he wants to be a FM again. :) That means that Wing XIII is looking for a new Wing Commander. All applicants should send their apps to Rear Admiral Woobee and CC Vice Admiral Cyric and Lieutenant Colonel Brucmack.

The new BGCOM Intimidator for this month is LCM Michael of the ISD Greywolf!

SCO resigns
08:22 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
Our Science Officer, Fleet Admiral Kermee, is stepping down from his position, but he says he will be staying behind long enough at least to assist the new Science Officer in getting started. Requirements for applying to this position will be posted shortly.

Wing IX WC open to applications
10:23 - FA Priyum Patel [spellfire@btinternet.com]
This from Rear Admiral Ricaud, recently promoted to RelCOM:

With the appointment of a new Commodore of the ISD Relentless, it is now necessary for an equally-new Commanding Officer of Wing IX to be found. Effective immediately, the post is open to any and all interest individuals in the TIE Corps at the rank of Commander or higher, and with previous experience as a squadron leader. However, this will be no normal application procedure. Because the "Fighting Ninth" is an exceptional wing, recently winning the titles of TIE Corps Commander's Own and TIE Corps Battlegroups Flagship within the space of a month, it deserves an exceptional commander.

Thus, this appointment will not be decided purely or even largely on past experience, but ability. All candidates for the position of Wing IX Commander should write a short essay, with a minimum of 750 words, on the topic of "the nature of power within the TIE Corps" with particular reference to the post of Wing Commander. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of where an officer's authority derives from, the limit to this, interrelational requirements with other positions with regards to WC, and how the efficient legitimacy of a command is established and maintained.

If it sounds confusing, you probably shouldn't think about applying. There is no right or wrong answer, all that I want to hear are your own theories of basically where a Wing Commander's power lies, how they maintain it, and how they should exercise and use it. The more intelligently and eloquently a discussion on the subject you can write, the better your chances.

All applications should be e-mailed to val.ricaud@btinternet.com and CC:ed to jarak@stny.rr.com. You may also send any questions concerning the application procedure and what is expected to the former of these addresses, or catch up with me on IRC as Ricaud in channels #Emperor's_Hammer, #TIECorps, or #ISD_Relentless. However, do please send formal applications in soon!

XWA WoWs
13:06 - AD Havoc [Pellaeon2000@cs.com]

Executive Order #0003
22:02 - SA Kawolski [absurefire@aol.com]
From kawolski.com:

Until the TIE Corps section of the EH Database is complete, name changes for any pilot that isn't a Cadet must be approved by the Executive Officer. Send name change requests to the Executive Officer (absurefire@aol.com) and CC the Flight Officer (spellfire@btinternet.com) along with a detailed explanation as to why you want to change your name.

XvT Tactics online
04:37 - HA Astatine [jpboyce@indigo.net.au]
The XvT Tactics course is now online. You can check it out at http://www.imperialacademy.org/xvttactics/. The course professor is MAJ Tarkin.

Orders

  • Take part in the two Wing Competitions that are on (details above)
  • Take part in as many multiplayer competitions as you can (more info can be found at http://www.tiecorps.org/combat/)
  • Attend IRC as often as possible. Remember that as well as #emperor's_hammer and #tiecorps, there is also an #ISD_Immortal room. If you need any help getting on IRC and using mIRC (or whatever) mail me. ISD Immortal meetings are on at 3pm EST in their channel.
  • Post on the Phantom Message Board more often. It can be found in the Squadron Forums on http://www.tiecorps.org/mb/
  • Recruit!!! If I can do it, ANYONE can!!!
  • Give me some BSFs to do. If there are any missions you haven't flown, then get flying. If you've completed them already, then why not go for the highscores as they may be useful in a future competition.
