Avenger Report # 24 (2000-04-05)

This report was submitted by MAJ Death

Pilots of Avenger squadron and my esteemed superiors,
welcome to the first in the series of regular, good lookin' reports from your favourite soon-to-be-famous
Avenger squadron. :)
First of all, I would like to once again formally apologize for my lack of activity during the past 2 weeks. As
I have already explained, I was moving in RL, and the phone line at my new place was screwed. All fixed
now, and I am back to my hyperactive duty. :)
SQUADRON NEWS:
I have finally finished my work on the Avenger squadron website, it is located at:
http://avenger.squadron.org. As you can see, it is more-or-less the copy of the old Avenger website with a
little face-lift in some areas. I have turned off the new window feature, because quite frankly, I did not like
it. The Roster section is now completely updated, and it reminded me that we still need a nickname for
Flight III as well as Flight mottos for all three flights. You will notice that I did not touch the crafts section,
although i have updated the roster with out designated starfighters (Flight I - T/A, Flight II - X-W, Flight III -
T/I). I do not know why the ex-CMDR, Rocanon put all the stuff about the TIE Defenders when the online
roster, which is the official source supplies the above information. I also do not know why we fly X-wings,
or why does an Elite squadron fly TIE Interceptors, and if anyone can offer any explanation, please do :)
Concerning our roster, we are now at 6 active pilots, effectively meaning 50% squadron manpower. As I
have informed you before, I am evaluating three applicants for possible joining Avenger squadron. One
has cancelled his application yesterday due to a promotion to CMDR position. The other two are still
under evaluation. If anyone has any suggestion as to who might be a good adition to our squadron, either
tell them to contact me or supply me with their info.
WEEKLY ORDERS:
In adition to the regular online competitions (for details see ASF War Room at: -<
http://www.redrival.com/demios/asf_main.html >- I have started two Avenger squadron competitions. One
is in for single player, offline flying and one multiplayer. You can see all the details in the Tactical section
of the squadron website (it is btw the section which I have done most updates to and which I expect to be
most useful to everybody, and I will attempt to update it as much as needed with all the most recent info).
The Single player competition is rather simple, but concentrate more on the online compet. It's a standard
branched melee, you should fly XvT, T/Is, no missiles/beams, but if both pilots agree to any changes (XvT
or XWA, craft etc...) it's just fine by me. Get together ASAP and fly the first round of melees and send
reports to me, so we can advance to the next round.
Concerning the competitions, I would like some input from you people. Having joined the ASF, I realize
you have all signed up for multiplayer flying and online competitions. But still being an elite EH squadron,
it is my opinion we should also fly some offline single player competitions, after all one of the best
qualities of the EH is it's vast number of custom missions and battles. I would like to hear from you what
do you think how many competitions should we be involved with at the same time, what types of
competitions do you prefer and what should be the balance between the single and multiplayer
competitions.
While at it, I would also like to hear what you think about the squadron message board. Should we use it
and promote activity on it, or should we forget it and stick to e-mail for squadron communications.
Personally I always saw the squadron msg boards as useless as all intra squadron communications are
much easier and more efficient via email. Hell... why not go all the way? :) Anyone knows what kind of
rank badges are those the ex-CMDR used on the roster? They look kinda nice, but I am unfamiliar with
them...
ADITIONAL ORDERS FOR FLIGHT LEADERS:
Hello Flight Leaders! :) Some squadron commanders request their flight leaders to maintain Flight
websites. I always saw that as ultimate mindlessness and misplacment of resources. All aditional duties
you will recieve are writing up a short weekly flight activity report and send it to my mailbox every
Tuesday. If any of you, has some HTML knowledge and extra time to help me out with some add-ons to
the main Avenger website, please mail me and I'll tell you what I had in mind... (this goes to all off
Avenger, of course :)
