Through the Ringer 2

Competition ID #: 6325
Status: Finished
Submitted by: L Justin Stryker
Competition dates: 2010-09-15 - 2010-09-29
Subgroup: Secret Order
Units involved: House Drakonan
Description:

This competition is a race to see who can complete the \"Ringer 2\" course in X-Wing Alliance the fastest, while herding a YT-2000 light freighter through the rings. The freighter is big, so collisions are harder to avoid. Surprisingly, it\'s only slightly slower and less maneuverable than an X-Wing. You may be surprised at how fast you can hustle this pig through the Ring course.

The ring course in the Pilot\'s Proving Ground generally takes less than 3 minutes to fly, so flying it a few times won\'t break the bank if you\'re short on time. It rewards maneuverability in flight, accuracy in firing, and perspicacity in selecting energy levels and speed settings.

Duration of contest is 2 weeks, starting whenever this competition is approved (probably 15 September).

The \"X-Wing Alliance High-Score Table\" is stored in a file called \"XWAHS.TBL\" located in the main game folder (something like C:\Games\LucasArts\XWingAlliance). I will e-mail a copy of this file (named \"XWAHS_100914.TBL\") to everyone at the start of the competition. It will be pristine except for the YT-2000 high scores for the \"Ringer 2\" course. Here\'s what I want you to do...

a) Back up your current copy of \"XWAHS.TBL\"
b) Copy the \"XWAHS_100914.TBL\" that I sent you into the XWingAlliance folder and rename it \"XWAHS.TBL\"
c) Start the game and go to the Pilot Proving Grounds
d) Choose the \"Ringer 2\" course (right arrow to move to selection screen on right, up/down to highlight option, enter to select)
e) Choose the YT-2000 craft
f) Press \"Esc\"
g) Select \"General Options\"
h) Select Craft Collisions: OFF
i) Select Invulnerable: ON
j) Select Unlimited Ammo: ON
k) Fly like the wind
l) Reset your \"General Options\"
m) ZIP the \"XWAHS.TBL\" file and send it back to me
n) Send me a separate e-mail, with no file attachments, requesting confirmation

I know of no way to check to see if options like Invulnerability, etc., were enabled when the course was flown, so we\'ll just run the competition with those cheats enabled -- I only gained a few seconds with the cheats enabled anyway.

In addition, I will hold a separate \"Leadership\" category for the House Summit and the Dark Council. If enough of the leadership can tear themselves away from their paperwork to fly the competition, I will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for that category as well. :-)

Competition awards:

Cr-1E for First, a Cr-1T for Second, and a Cr-1Q for Third.

Competition runtime starts on the first day at 00:00:01 UTC, and ends on the last day at 23:59:59 UTC.
