Firebird PatchFROM STRYKER'S DESKFirebird Patch
Styrker pulled himself out of the engine bay of his starfighter and wiped the grease off of his hands with a rag while Sparky made adjustments from his socket in the X-Wing's fuselage. Despite constant maintenance and care, the ravages of time had made their mark on the squadron's overworked vessels; some were approaching thirty years of age, and the TIE Corps' engineers simply did not care enough about the few craft manufactured outside of Sienar Fleet Systems or Cygnus Spaceworks. Had the Infiltrator Wing still existed as its own entity, there might have been a push to update their systems or replace the venerable craft with the New Republic's more modern fighters like the T-70 or RZ-2 A-Wing, but that was not the case, and they were forced to make do with what they had.

Fortunately, Firebird's X-Wings has been the more modern T-65C-A2 and their Y-Wings the two-seat BTL-S3, meaning they'd had a better base to work on for upgrades than the squadrons relegated to border patrol or system defence. There had been a recent push by some to upgrade to the lesser-known D model by removing the Astromech compartment and replacing it with a flight computer not unlike those found on the TIE Defender or Missile Boat, but those plans had fallen through and the frontline pilots had instead gotten with the engineers aboard the Challenge to further extend the lifespan of the craft: Firebird's craft had been stripped back to the basic spaceframe and equipped with modular systems - engines, shields, weapons, even the composition of the hull could be altered to an extent depending on the requirements of the mission.

The modiular designs had served them well so far, but as he reached back into the guts of the Incom 4J.4 engine to continue his adjustments, he couldn't help but wonder whether they'd have more success with newer craft...

MSEs are still in the hands of the Command Staff, though we're getting close to awards being finalised and ready for recommendation.

Firebird is contributing not one, but two teams to the Chalquilla Cup. There's some pretty stiff competition out there with players who regularly participated in the 5Mans competitions and other organised play events, but I have confidence we will represent ourselves with confidence, skill, and dignity. In the finest traditions of Eddie the Eagle and the Jamaican Bobsleigh Team, we will fight adversity and compete for the sake of competing!

Star Wars: Battlefront II is currently free on the Epic store until January 21; it's a larger game, and may not be everyone's cup of tea, but hey, it's free and is a platform to earn more LoCs and LoSs from! It'll likely become a Firebird Squadron Training platform as well, so keep that in mind!

Plans for February's month-long narrative competition/campaign that I announced in Discord and via e-mail are now underway, the plot is being drafted and the prologue is due to be written next week. If this is successful, it will become a regular thing - possibly running every other month. It may even grow to include other Squadrons, perhaps the whole Challenge if Dempsey lets me!

Firebird Squadron Training: Every two weeks, Firebird will assemble for Multiplayer Training! Star Wars Squadrons, EA Battlefront 2, and others; let's try to get full flights working together! Pilots will be awarded an IS-BW for every 3 events attended, IS-SW for attending the most events in six months, and an IS-GW for attending the most events in a year.

Trivia for the Challenged (Under New Management): Weekly Trivia for the Challenge crew. Link posted in Discord and Challenge mailing groups every Monday morning.

The Chalquilla Cup is upon us! Though I hope we do well, having fun is more important - the moment it stops being fun, it stops having a purpose, and I'd like all of Firebird (regardless whether you're team Foghorn Leghorn or Chickenhawk) to remember that - not just for the Chalquilla Cup, but in general.

Squadron pride means nothing if the pilots are miserable and not motivated to participate; we've all got enough real-world drama to deal with, and though we cannot often physically help out our comrades with their life troubles, let's ensure that we stick together as a team to help each other through any issues they have regarding our hobby!
