RO Report # 14 (2003-06-28)

This report was submitted by AD Joe

Greetings!

It's the end of another week, time for the news. ;)

Finding time, and finding the right words for all the letters im typing up is harder than I first thought. But it is moving along, though rather slowly. I do have a list of who are the first five lucky Actors/Actresses that I'll be sending a letter/interview to:

Natalie Portman
Samuel L. Jackson
James Earl Jones
Harrison Ford
Ewan McGregor

Hey, why start off small when you can start off with a list like that? Obviously, Natalie Portmant is my main target, mostly because thats what the majority of the EH wants. >:P Though, I'd almost kill for an interview with Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones, and Harrison Ford. You just cant get much bigger than those guys.. I have 3 days off in a row ( wow!) Sun-Tuesday, so I WILL be finishing thease things up and pricing how much it would take to send them certified US Mail. Why send them in a regular envelope if I can send them in a way they will get noticed alot easier? ;)

I am going to announce my CA within the next few days. I have had alot of applicants surprisingly. I have been very fair and looked at each one individualy. The decision mostly rested on who I know that could do the work, has any experience, and whom I trust completely.

I will be sending an email today to the FC and XO with my decision. Hopefully I can release that soon! :)

Now, on to the news!

Star Wars Galaxies Sign-Up Problems
Fri, Jun 27, 03 12:49:30 AM EDT

We've had reports of gamers having problems registering for Star Wars Galaxies.

fjk1138 writes:
So far I have installed the game and got about 1/2 way through the registration process and it keeps giving me errors. Until you register the game, you cannot even see what it looks like, nor can you make any control, video, or audio setups.
I bought the collector's edition and so far I cannot even see what it looks like. If you are trying to sign up, keep your manual handy. You might get through all 192 pages. I tried a live chat with a Sony CSR and they have a pre-written response that they paste in and send to you (to) "keep trying" and to reboot. This sucks! 1 hr 45 minutes and counting...

Tahigwa adds:
This game was released with very little concern for its inevitable traffic to join up. I have wasted the better part of a day, just trying to subscribe. I ALMOST created a character and haven’t even sniffed any sort of gameplay.
The galaxy servers keep going offline and the simple login servers to identify and choose a player type have been off and on for the past hour. From the looks of the forums on the official site, I am one of the thousands who are having an undesirable first experience.

Sounds like the Hyperspace registration problems all over again. Thanks for the alerts.

Celebration 3 in Denver?
Fri, Jun 06, 03 01:10:12 AM EDT

K3po gives us the inside track on another possible Celebration location:

Someone who is in the know told us that Denver has received a bid to host the next celebration in 2005. Also, hotels in the area have been asked to review the dates of the event. The Denver convention center is being expanded and remodeled and is scheduled to be finished 2004. Here's hoping from a Denver native!

(( A personal friend of mine went to SW Celebreation 1, when it was held in Denver. He said if he wasn't such a SW nut, he would have left for home halfway into the first day. With all the bad weather they had, I still cant see Lucas really holding it there. Atleast I hope not. :P ))

EP3: Rick McCallum Talks Filming & Finished Script
Thu, Jun 26, 03 01:26:42 PM EDT

The Sydney Morning Herald talks to Rick McCallum about filming on Episode 3. Here's an excerpt:
The final episode in the Star Wars saga is about to start filming at Fox Studios.
The producer, Rick McCallum, said yesterday that Episode III would be shot almost entirely inside the studios from next Monday. The main shoot would take 12 weeks, with Lucas returning for additional filming over the next 18 months.
The only shooting outside Sydney would be some plate photography - for visual effects - in Italy, New Zealand and Switzerland.
It's a huge picture and, under today's standards, it's a pretty moderately budgeted film," McCallum said. "But they're a lot of fun to make."
For Episode II, Lucas finished the script only three days before shooting started. This time around, he finished with five days to spare.
"I think they're always tough for him to write," McCallum said. "Especially this one, because it has to tie everything up from the prequels to the original trilogy. And you've got really big themes and issues in this one - how and why Anakin turns into Darth Vader."

EP3: Samuel L Jackson & Ewan McGregor Talk Episode 3
Thu, Jun 26, 03 09:33:26 AM EDT

MTV features an interview with Samuel L Jackson and Ewan McGregor, about their thoughts and hopes for Episode 3. Here's an excerpt from Samuel L Jackson. Contains possible spoilers (highlight to read):

"I'm just going to die, you know?" Jackson said recently of George Lucas' plans for "Star Wars Episode III," which the actor begins work on next month in Australia. "I'm basically going down there hoping that I'm going to have this really awesome lightsaber battle with somebody that takes me out in the proper way. You know, the way a Jedi of my status deserves to be taken out."

"[I owe] thanks to George for creating a character like Mace Windu that makes me, like, the second-baddest dude in the universe," he said. "It's kind of awesome. And then, you know, to top that off, giving me the oddest lightsaber in the universe. I got the only purple lightsaber in the universe.

And here's an excerpt on/from Ewan McGregor:

Like Jackson, Ewan McGregor — a.k.a. Obi-Wan Kenobi — is looking forward to getting his hands back on the Jedi knights' signature weapon, even if he isn't too psyched about shooting scenes on empty soundstages in front of green screens, interacting with things that will be added in later.

"I like the fighting sequences [the best]," he said. "They're good fun to prepare for and also good fun to shoot. It's one of the rare instances in the 'Star Wars' movies when you're working with someone else, because you can't really swordfight on your own. However, most of the other scenes seem to be played into midair with computer-generated characters."

You can check out the rest of the interview by clicking here . Thanks to Coming Soon for the alert.

=======================

That's about it for me this week. Hopefully I might have some news concerning talks with the IW about some massive recruitment Ideas they have.

Until next week.
