RO Report # 15 (2003-07-05)

This report was submitted by AD Joe

-=Salute=-

Greetings from the RO Office!! Happy Fourth of July to all Americans out there! ;) Yeah im a day late, but being police officer during the 4th proved to be a challenge to say the least. I was called in early, and didn't get home till atleast 4:30 am. Anyways, on to the report.

I have all the letters typed up to send to the following actors/actress:

Natalie Portman
Harrison Ford
Samuel L. Jackson
James Earl Jones
Hayden Christensen

I was trying to go with a personalized letter, but after I wrote a few of the letters, I noticed I was basicly writing the same thing. Adding a few personal touches here and there and using a basic format seemed like a better idea.

Now I get to work on the interviews. I have my mind set on about 10 questions. Mostly general stuff, but a few, more personal questions. ( I dont think I can get NP's number Ast, sorry ;P )

One question I had for the CS members ( and SGCOMS), For any of the people listed above, if you could send me ONE question you would like me to ask them, I'll do my best to incorperate them into the interview list. Now keep in mind that I have no idea if we will get a responce at all. This is a shot in the dark, but one thats worth it.

Once I get the interview page all ready for each person, I'm sending it via certified letter to each individual. Hopefully it will get noticed enough to put it on top of the fan mail pile. :P We can only hope.

Now, one OTHER thing for the CS-types. Of all the SW actors/actresses from any of the movies, who would YOU like to see me send a letter to next? I need five more people for my next set. So go ahead and reply to this report or just send me a private email with your suggestion.

The last thing I have, but certainly not the least. I would like everyone to welcome the newest Command Attache` to the Recon Officer, Rear Admiral Shay'la DuKahn Ludsorkim. She has been a ROA for a long while, and finally stepped up to help out. Congrats on her promo to RA. :)

Okay, onto the SW news!

SW NEWS:

2003 Convention Tour
Jul 02, 2003

Hasbro’s Star Wars team will be at two conventions this year, Comic-Con in San Diego on July 16-20 and Wizard World in Chicago on August 8-10. We will be previewing our 2003 toys including the new Saga and Clone Wars toys. Be sure to check out the awesome Clone Wars battle diorama set up in our booth. And while you’re there, don’t forget to take your picture in our life-sized blister card and pick up a Clone Wars mini-book, featuring three exciting short stories. And as we previewed here a few weeks ago, the Official Star Wars Fan Club will be selling a limited-edition Boba Fett figure. And if that wasn’t enough, if you purchase the Boba Fett convention figure at Comic-Con, stop by the Hasbro booth for a free Boba Fett Unleashed poster (while supplies last, proof of purchase required).
At Comic-Con, we will be hosting a Star Wars Hasbro panel on Friday, July 18th from 11:30-12:30. Come and hear the latest and greatest news about the upcoming Star Wars toys (and maybe even a sneak preview of some 2004 toys) and ask your most burning Hasbro Star Wars toy questions. Also look for Hasbro’s participation in Lucasfilm’s panel presentation on Friday, July 18th at 2:30. We hope to see you there!
For those of you unable to attend the Comic-Con convention, we haven’t forgotten about you either. We will be posting pictures on www.Starwars.Hasbro.com of the new toys shown for the first time at Comic-Con.

SW Trooper Helmets are High Fashion
Sun, Jun 29, 03 09:25:25 AM EDT

Just when you thought you'd seen it all, a Japanese designer dressed his models in Biker Scout & Clonetrooper helmets for a fashion show in Paris on June 28th, 2003. Junya Watanabe creations are for Comme des Garcons's Spring/Summer 2004 Men's fashion show. This man deserves an honorary membership of the 501st (maybe he's already a member). Click on the images above (http://www.theforce.net/humor/index.shtml) to check them out. Thanks to Darren for the alert.

LucasArts Claim Most Successful Launch Ever
Thu, Jul 03, 03 08:55:32 PM EDT

(( RO Disclaimer: Please note that I, nor most of the other EH's who play SW Galaxies wouldn't agree with the claim "Most Successful Launch ever". Just so everyone knows the truth. ;P ))

This press release was issued today from LucasArts:
LUCASARTS' STAR WARS GALAXIES(tm): AN EMPIRE DIVIDED(tm) EXPERIENCES MOST SUCCESSFUL MMO LAUNCH EVER
Player Community Shows Unprecedented Growth One Week After Launch; First In-Game Community Event To Be Held This Friday

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. and SAN DIEGO - July 3, 2003 - LucasArts' Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, the first Star Wars massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, experienced unprecedented success in its first week of availability, garnering more than 125,000 users and receiving accolades from gaming press and players alike.
To celebrate the successful launch of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, the development team will hold its first coordinated in-game community building event this Friday, July 4. Planned to coincide with America's Independence Day celebration, the team is encouraging players to commemorate the Star Wars holiday of Unification Day by creating and launching fireworks within the game at predetermined locations every hour. More information about this Friday's Unification Day celebration can be found at www.starwarsgalaxies.com

"As evidenced by the incredible player turnout during the first week, the launch of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided was the single most successful introduction of an MMO to date," says Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts. "The game has broken all previous records for first week subscription totals, which bodes very well for the ongoing success of the game."

"Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided is the fastest selling MMO in history," says John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment. "We're ecstatic to be in a position with Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided where we can begin to offer events, such as the Unification Day celebration, so soon after launch. Throughout the development and into the launch of the game, the community has continued to grow stronger and more supportive and these types of events are a way for us to say 'thank you' to our players."

The Star Wars Galaxies development team is working on a variety of new features, such as player-owned ground vehicles and player cities, along with substantial new content to be added on a regular basis throughout the coming months.
