TAC Report # 23 (2001-11-19)

This report was submitted by FA Striker

Busy busy week... I guess I spent more hours on TAC than in RL office this week ;)

1. New CA:TAC

Marcin Szydlowski, current TCHC, has been appointed Command Attaché, along with a promotion to Rear Admiral ! He should then have even more time to spend for the TAC Office, without a squadron to command. Commanding Officers (COs, CAs, SGCOMs, Advisors) who have pilot files to submit can send them to RA Marcin Szydlowki who will process them. Please zip your files, include your PIN, and if you're sure to not have any high score on those, say so, the update will be much easier and faster.

2. TAC2K - 42 to go

This week, 10 new battles have been released, 1 TIE, 4 XWA, 5 XvT, and some free missions in addition. TAC2K should be reached before Chritmas at this rate.

3. FCHG Creation Contest #2

Deadline December 15th - http://www.tiecorps.org/tac/fchg.html. BTW, the current TOP2 best rated battles of the compendium are two of the FCHG Battles released for the previous edition...

4. The Tug Menace - Released

Thanks to the hard work of the SCO Office, the Astatine-class tug Patch has been released, which means XWA-TC #20 "The Tug Menace" has been released as well. Go fly this IWATS10K celebration battle !

5. Phoenix Alliance - Completed

I completed the second phase, ie the bug correction of all XWA free missions. Yay.

6. Phoenix "III" - Begins

RA Marcin Szydlowski has begun to lead the correction of TIE/XvT bugs reported, with the help of the TIE Tactical Staff which will be soon workless, as no new TIE Battles are submitted these days...

7. Mission Compendium file names - Updated

I renamed the 600+ files of the compendium, and updated the 600+ battles profiles. I guess there may be at least one error, so report me any dead link, or mistake spotted. It looks like the database doesn't like much "", so some battle title may have disappeared.

8. Battles created and personal profiles

if you created a battle (single creator) which is not on your profile, email me. Thinking of the old TIE ones, released in early 1999 or sooner.

9. ECR

The Tactical Office is going to give a hand in judging the submissions for the ECR Battlegroup competition.

Yesterday it has been a year since I was promoted FA... yay !

TACA Report

SALUTE

Only one new utility to report on this week, but what a major advancement in the XWA community this one will make !! I downloaded and have used this program myself, it is called "Datech05". What this program does is that it has combined two programs that came out two weeks ago, it allows you to import a 32x32 bit map into XWA to be used as the hull icon in the HUD. This means that custom fighters will no longer be plauged by not having a HUD Hull icon to show damage. Just imagine, all of the EH custom fighters can now be updated to have their own custom hull icon !! I have worked with this program and have added hull icons for my own custom installed fighters. It is as simple as point and click. A great utitily that will provide XWA users with many great uses. Also of note is that the creators of this program are working having it also import custom planet backgrounds, nebula back grounds and other .dat files.

And a big plus to custom mission designers, this program also allows the use of custom made MAP Icons, like the custom hull icons. Thus allowing for example a Map Icon to be made for the Sovereign for use in XWA Map briefings. Although I have not worked with this part of the utility yet, as I have no custom map icons to import, but I'm sure the Science Office can make proper use of this wonderful new program.
