TAC Report # 37 (2002-03-17)

This report was submitted by VA Marcin Szydlowski

Hello folks and welcome to this super fancy, Tactical Office report #37.

1. TAC on leave

You probably know. Striker in on leave. And he appointed new acting-TAC, namely me. I will do my best, to keep this office in shape. In fact Striker is still out there, watching over us, processing some BSFs, catching cheaters and uploading battles. So everything as usual.
However you should not mail him with usual questions. He is busy. Direct them all to me, and I'll answer them all. With more serious business you can cc Striker.

2. Database problems (BSFs)

As you have probably noticed out databased move to www.emperorshammer.net However if you are doing BSFs, you should not zip you files. Database doesn't accept them anymore. If you will try to process zip file, you will probably get Error 500 message.
And one more thing. WE CANNOT FIX DATABASE ERRORS. WE DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO DATABASE CODE. ALL EMAILS DIRECT TO KAWOLSKI AND ASTATINE Of course follow the guidelines, Ast gave in his report.

3. New battles

Oh yes. We have new battles in database. Check out BoP-TC #11 and XWA-DB #2. I am not sure if Striker uploaded them already (unfortunatelly he didn't give me access to EH FTP accounts), but you can expect them soon, if they are not there.

4. New Tac Staff

Yeah! Go Tac Office. This week I've appointed two new TCCs. Many congratulations to TCC:XvT Enahropes Entar (I hope I didn't make mistale again :P), and our good-old, TCC:TIE AbsolutVodka (yeah, good Vodka) who returned as TCC:TIE. I hope I'll will see many new TIE and XvT/BoP battles next week.

4. CM Shadd reported:

"... Gentlemen, I have e-mailed you all today, the SCO staff and Striker as part of my former job I held with both offices to report new developments for the gaming platforms in use by the fleet.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with "PalPatrick" or atleast his program, Datech for X-Wing Alliance. The next version will bring in many major breakthroughs that the TIE Corps in particular can benefit from. If you go here
You will see that someone has asked about changing the concourse in XWA. Patrick has replied on this thread and in the next version of Datech we will be able to edit the dat file for the concourse! The only thing the TIE Corps would need then is for someone with the highest of graphics skills to make a concourse picture for our use and to make an ISD hanger. Or just some sort of generic TIE rack type hanger. Custom hangers have been done already, just no one has made one of an Imperial type that could be used by the TIE Corps.
Once this next version of Datech comes out, for the first time we will be able to really "tear" XWA apart and make what we want of it. I'd like to propose that you gentlemen, being in the positions that you are get a group of people together to start working on making a new concourse and even new planet backgrounds and if you can find the modeling people, make a custom hanger. In other words make a TIE Corps based total conversion for XWA.
Although it is not stated in the msg board thread above, this next version of Datech will allow users to edit all dat files. From the uniform and medals to the concourse and even the planet back grounds. No word yet on the briefing room.....but it is certainly possible.
Anyhow I wanted to alert you all to this and attempt to get the ball rolling on some new developments for XWA for the TIE Corps. As Striker stated a few days ago on the TC msg board, X-Wing Alliance is the future.
Its going ever so slowly but TIE is dieing. It will soon be 10 years old and its becoming readily apparent that the fleet is switching to XWA in large.
Just think of how an Imperial conversation for XWA could boost membership.
There are 100s of people out there that play XWA, but hate that it is only for the rebels. Even us EHers hate this fact, but we've gotten around it. With proper advertisement here and there with a complete Imperial theme conversion behind us we could drawl in lots of new interest to the Fleet.
Well there you have it gentelmen, many of the things we've waited several years on have finally been cracked for XWA.
...."

Oh well. I think that explains everything. I would really love to see ISD hangar in XWA ;))

And that would be all for this week. Cya on tiecorps meeting, today. Take care and behave :P
